If we were hypothetically going to make a pitch to Lebron and Durant to team up here in LA, my primary selling point would be that it's this team in this market that grants the best opportunity for two superstars to coexist without taking too much shine off their individual stars. In fact, history has proven this point:

Chamberlain & West. Kareem and Magic. Shaq and Kobe.

The Lakers brand has proven over time that you can be a part of a superstar-duo here and still be mentioned among the individual all time greats. In many other markets, this isn't necessarily the case.

In fact, one could make the argument that 1 title without MJ could have done a lot more for Pippen than 6 with Michael in terms of his individual legacy as an all-time great.

I think this is the type of argument we need to pitch when emphasizing the Laker Brand, rather than just pointing to the rafters and saying "look how many championships we got." Basically, the sun is a lot brighter around here so there's more shine to go around.

Wait. Are we actually entertaining the idea that we get both Durant and Lebron in the same offseason? For s***s and giggles, I'll play. Who do we trade to net us that 3rd star? Part of the pitch has to be, "You guys come here and team up with_____." Trade the pick (if we keep it) along with Randle for Cousins?

    Cousins/Black
    LBJ/Nance
    Durant/Swaggy
    Clarkson/Lou
    Russell/Lou

I mean, the team would crush, but that's a lot of dominos that need to line up.

Honestly I'm just having some fun. :D

Slow day. Still though just something on the periphery of my mind. It's something that would absolutely take all the right cogs to fall into place, but not as outlandish as maybe it sounds off bat.

I think you end up trading Randle/the pick for someone maybe Cousins although I doubt Sacramento wants to let Cousins go to a direct Division rival. Of the entire plan, that's the least likely thing in my opinion. :D But hey! It's something out there... Something you could float around if you're the Lakers. That's the importance of the two max slots.

No, he would be getting hit left and right from the general media of making a mockery of the Cavs and just leaving because of wanting to win again.

Durant and LeBron to the Lakers this offseason? Duuuude, that seems totally realistic to me for some reason...

Probably. But if we get the 2nd or 3rd pick, I kick the tires a bit on Cousins and Jimmy Butler regardless of which FAs show interest. But forgetting Lebron for a second, if we traded Clarkson and the 2nd pick for Cousins (or for the sake of argument even the 1st pick), and then get Batum committed early (not the Lebron pipe :D ) are you telling me Durant isn't interested in a team with 2 emerging stars in Russell and Randle, the best center in the league and a great 3 'n D wing player to take a huge chunk of the defensive burden off of him? I'd also see if Pau would come back for cheap. He'd be a great backup big and insurance policy in case Randle doesn't make the jump we think he will.

The kids showing out give us some more flexibility I think. Better late than never. I was fooling around with the LeBron/Durant idea, but certainly guys like Derozan, Whiteside, Batum, etc. have to see the recent stretch of games and see more potential there than they could see a few months ago. Randle and Russell are both rookies and with about 20 games left they're finally seeing the game slow down and are able to be productive. If I'm a guy like Derozan or Parsons and especially your favorite guy Whiteside, I'm thinking "I can help that team take the next step and they can help me win a ring. Plus I get to be a Laker and all the fun stuff that comes along with that."

The only problem for Derozan is how competitive the Raptors are right now. Hard to leave them when they're maybe the best team in the East.

I have no doubt that Batum will be maxed out this summer, but it'll be interesting to see what he looks for. He's had a pretty good season in Charlotte. At his age and mileage he'll probably look for a more competitive team, but who knows? If the Lakers were able to convince someone like Horford or something to make the leap, I think it changes the landscape a bit. Hard to do, but that's why it's important to send the right people to sell this franchise.

Batum and Horford would be a good haul. Both are solid players that will work well with our young core. The needs for a versatile SF and a mobile C are addressed. We can only hope that management have learned from their pratfalls in talks with free agents the last two off-seasons.

You can totally tell that he said "Ain't nobody doing it with blocks" the second time because he lost his train of thought completely. He was trying to say something and suddenly he started thinking of the Trix Rabbit or something, and just said the last thing he said.

We'd still have enough to sign a back-up PG as well wouldn't we? Like 8million?

Assuming it actually happened of course.

I think he was just proud of that so when he said it, it took a second (a long second) to sink in and then he repeated it for emphasis. Definitely he was having trouble thinking of anything else, but that's okay. I don't need him to think a ton, I just need him to block shots.

Because AIN'T TOO MANY- AIN'T NOBODY- DOING IT WITH BLOCKS.
