If the Sixers make Embiid available, would you try to get him ? I don't see them keeping Okafor and Embiid next year

I'd trade Ryan Kelly for him.

A big man who is now bigger than he was in college and has had what three major injuries in a row? No I'm not sure I'm very interested and I LOVED Embiid's game in college.

Whiteside, doesn't put a lot of emphasis into X's and O's; that was/is more suited to a very smart player such as LaMarcus Aldridge. He's 30 and wanted to win and know how he was going to be utilized within the construct of the team. SAS brought forth a better vision of how they wanted him to play, the players he was going to play with, how he was going to be featured, and how they were going to win with him.

Whiteside is 26 and wants to get paid. Sure, we can talk about him being featured within our offense, and describe what you pointed out, but make no mistake, that would be a very little part of my pitch. I'd focus on Hollywood, him being our featured/starting 5 for years to come (he's coming off the bench now), All-Star Appearances, endorsements, and give him the he'll be a 'star' pitch, and he could do more for his career/earnings by making the Lakers respectable again. Just my .002 cents...

You provide more than a fraction of a cent for us! ;)

I think Whiteside's pitch is simple. We have all the same beach weather and beautiful women of Miami, but twice the business opportunity. Not to mention we wont bench him and we'll pay him a buttload of money. A few Xs and Os here and there. A few promises of another max deal on the way. Maybe even ask him if he wants to lead us towards a new future... We can tell him we'll turn him into Andre Drummond. The same sales pitch Dallas gave to DeAndre Jordan.

I'm not sure Whiteside is a draw for other players... but at this point I don't care. He's talented and I want him on our team.

Magic should be the guy leading our pitches, but we all know that won't happen any time soon.

And honestly, given all the division in our front office, these horror stories that trickle out on social media are more believable for me than in the past.

I think Whiteside is ours if we really want him.

you may be right. there's only a few teams that would offer him max (not even sure if the lakers are one), and of those, la is the most desirable location. based on his public profile, this seems to matter. not sure if that's a great sign, but maybe beggars can't be choosers.

He's a really good fit around Clarkson and Russell.

I really don't want him. He's gonna be an albatross by year two of that deal. Knuckleheadedness is typically chronic.

Honest question: but couldn't the same be said for Artest?

I'm not trying to compare them as players or anything, but there's a lot of players who were able to mature over time. Zach Randolph in Memphis is another good example. I don't know if Whiteside can do that here, but I'd rather take a chance on a talented douchebag kid than Roy Hibbert again next summer.

It's a different kind of knuckleheadedness. Artest, despite being crazy was ALWAYS good. DPOY good. Whiteside's stupidity wouldn't be NEAR the concern it is for me if he didn't SUCK until he hit age 24. He was out-of-the-league-suck and then he was all-world. To me, THAT is the red flag. There are a lot of dumb people that are very successful players. But his journey is one of: Complete and utter garbage ---> Overnight success for a season and a half ---> Hand him 90 million dollars to live in LA and play on a team with ZERO veteran presence. There are chances I'm willing to take. Batum is NOT a max level talent, but I'd be willing to spend the max on him. Whiteside screams Eric Dampier to me, except at least Dampier wasn't an absolute idiot on top of coming out of nowhere.

I understand the concern and it's certainly there, but I'd still take the chance. What other choice do we have? A 32 year old Pachulia who probably will stay in Dallas? Horford is almost certainly not coming here. A broken Noah? Al Jefferson?

    Roy Hibbert?...

I'd rather take the chance and hope he stays on the right path than not take the chance and just suck again.

There's just no way we can pass on Whiteside if he is willing to sign with us.

We need talent in the worst way.

bismack biyombo? ezeli coming off knee surgery? might be able to absorb a koufos type in trade. i'm guessing phx would dump tyson chandler, but that could be hibbert part 2.

Yeah no thanks to Tyson. Love that guy, but that much dough to him and he's been banged up Phoenix. Imagine what his body does when his plane lands in LA.

Ezeli is a name the Lakers should be looking at and so is Barnes. If there's any smoke to the "Durant to GS" fire, then I'm calling GS and making BIG offers to both Ezeli and Barnes. Call their bluff or price them out of the Durant game. Win-win.

We're being overly paranoid about Whiteside right now. I get that he hasn't produced long but he's more than worth the gamble.

Since Kobe will not be here to do it, really hope Metta will be coming back in some kind of player development capacity that makes it worth his while .... so that if Whiteside were to come here and need someone to get up in his face on hopefully rare or better yet of course NO occasions, we have that covered.

    Some notes from the article...
-hometown Orlando is the favorite if he leaves.
-it's all about fit and who can help him be a star.
-loves Cuban, but they're a little iffy on Carlisle.

Not so sure about that. Why has his own team been rumored to be trying to trade him all season? Why is he not playing in crunch time? I mean, a 27 year old all-world center, and his own team is weary of him? That tells me all this smoke is coming from fire. It's not paranoia. If Miami doesn't make him a max offer, I'd be terrified of signing him.
