Time, I knew you were really just a teddy bear.

 

Deadpool was great. Very, very funny, lots of good action, and I liked the story. I'm not a huge comic fan, so I have no idea if it follows the comics, but I loved it.

This movie is R for a reason. I wouldn't bring your kids. Lots of sex and nudity.

 

It's by far the most comic accurate movie that FOX has ever made. I loved it. I hope FOX learns a lesson from it, but I don't think they will.

 

James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) was saying he hopes they learn the RIGHT lessons. Hollywood has a tendency to just copy what worked. They don't need to make Finding Dory rated R with tons of gratuitous fish sex. They need to look at the characters that are written and stay true to them, comic book or otherwise.

 

Well the news that FOX is trying to make a Wolverine movie that's R rated certainly scares me. I don't think they got the right lesson at all.

 

I'm fine with it, but it's not necessary.

If an R-rated Wolverine movie means we get a violent and bloody Wolverine, that's one thing. What I fear is that FOX saw the R-rating and decided "R-rated comic book movies are IN and that's our NICHE now!" meaning they'll give us a Wolverine with gratuitous nudity and cursing which is completely and utterly unnecessary for a Wolverine movie.

I have very little faith that FOX learned the RIGHT lesson from Deadpool.

 

I don't see how that's being a downer at all, just pragmatic.

I hope FOX figures it out, but I don't think they will.

 

I am perfectly capable of doing both. What has FOX done to really earn that kind of faith? I mean Apocalypse looks iffy already, First Class is entirely on the backs of Fassbender and McAvoy, Origins was dreadful, Wolverine screwed up their finale, X3 was atrocious.

Their only really good X-Men movies are X-Men, X2, and Days of Future Past. Of course now Deadpool is on that list.

All in all though they're really batting under .500 and they even tried to screw up Deadpool with budget cuts. I think it's actually a better idea to prepare for a bad movie and be pleasantly surprised.

 

I read that interview/article. I get what he's saying, but it sounded a bit strange. I think Deadpool was far, far better than GOG. In fact, when I watched it a second time, I wasn't really in to it.

 

Oh I do too, I just don't buy that they will. I have no faith in them as a studio to make the right calls. They're content to make mediocre products because no one is forcing them to improve.

 

Really? I liked them both equally. I thought they both brought something fresh to the comic book (and even just movies in general) scene. Guardians felt light. Deadpool felt raw. I loved how far Deadpool was willing/able to go. I can't imagine how much more fun it would have been without the studio budget restrictions forced on it. Then again, like the writers said: the budget cuts forced them to be more creative so who knows?

 

I enjoyed GOG when I first saw it. I watched it again, and I was really underwhelmed. I'd watch it again if I were drinking.

 

Interesting. I've seen it a few times and yeah I guess it doesn't have great staying power.

On a somewhat related note: I saw Zoolander 2 and it was absolutely dreadful. I went in with low expectations and it was worse than that. I decided to re-watch the first one to see if maybe I had exaggerated it in my mind, but nope. The first Zoolander I still find great. Zoolander 2 is the kind of movie you can watch when it hits Netflix or when it's on tv. I'm not even sure I'd spend money on it as a digital copy, dvd, or blu-ray.

 

I loved Guardians the first time I saw it. Like Trodgers, I didn't enjoy it the 2nd time.

I thought GOG was the most enjoyable movie the year it came out (2014?). Like you, I didn't really enjoy it the 2nd time. In fact, I was bored. I've seen Deadpool twice now and would go again. In fact, I probably will. LOL

 

I just saw The Witch.

It's more of a period piece than a horror movie. The acting was fantastic throught, and I couldn't believe the performance from one of the kids, but like I said... it's a period piece and not much of a horror movie.

I give it a B- or C+ just because the acting was so good, and even though it was a bit creepy, there was little to no horror.

 

That's a shame. I was looking forward to it a bit - as a horror film. Maybe when it comes to Red Box I'll check it out. Thanks for that heads up.
