@Barnstable , Matthews is what somebody brought up so I was going along with that since he seems to be a good 2 way player. I do agree he seems better suited as a SG. So if we did sign him either he becomes our new SG and Kobe guards opposing teams SF or Nick Young starts, than Matthews becomes the new 6th man. Even the 16 mill a year(4 year,64 mill) I suggested as being open to, EVEN THAT salary still has me wondering. I guess like a lot of our very own and other players out there who will be free agents after this year, lets continue to monitor how they do as the year goes along. Honestly,if we a get a top 5 lottery pick that will have a HUGE factor into what our offseason looks like. For example,if we land #1 overall pick, say Mitch thinks Okafor is the guy than maybe if Rondo has a great year he thinks that he is worth rolling the dice on because he will still be able to put great pieces together for a great team. Now, say we get #2 overall pick, Mitch thinks Okafor will go #1 and believes Mudiay has the potential to be a great PG for the next decade, we will pass on Rondo? We all got to think like a GM and every single possibility, you dont think Mitch is already thinking something along these lines the way the season is going?
I was wondering what people think of Sabonis's kid. He's 18, but he has dominated Euros under 18, at least statistically.
Ummm..... Isn't this tampering if someone in the Lakers organization is saying this? Disclaimer have not read the story yet or comments. Just got here tonight. Edit. OK some reporter is floating this. Wonder who his unnamed source is or was it just pulled from his posterior?
Take this into account, Rondo would be just a few months before turning 30 before he ever played a NBA game for us. We would have to give him 4 years with max/near-max paper. His scoring game relies on athleticism and that will quickly fade leading to his morphing into what? A jumpshooter. Great. Of course he will still be able to dish but his defensive game will diminish a bit too once he loses the quick step though his crazy reach for his size will keep him a decent defender. He's not a vocal leader and he will be expected to carry the team post-Kobe. On top of that the 30+ age is going to increase his likelihood of getting injured as he tries to retain his game. We will be trying to rebuild over these next 2-5 years (5 if we have bad luck) and this guy will be 34 and pulling down around 2/5 of our cap then? My personal opinion, if we got lucky, we'd get 2 good years out of him IF lucky, and that's still not worth a 4-year deal at or near max. If we were poised to be champs next season with the move, yes but not now. NTY.
Exactly. He's good, no doubt about it. But max good...umm I don't know that one. With a max you can basically get anyone in the league who is willing to come and if we were to give that to Rondo means we might just be settling. Lakers should make a run at him but they need to get him cheaper than the max but Rondo knows this is his last chance to get the max considering he's closing in on his 30's so this can be kinda tricky.
I wouldn't touch Rondo with a 10 foot pole. Dude can't shoot, is not a leader, is a team cancer, is an overrated defender, and will be near 30 when he resigns. Even if we did sign him I don't see him getting close to turning this ship around. To make him even somewhat effective you need the right personnel (which we don't have) and even if we could you don't build a team around Rondo! Bottom line he is not a game changer and is not worth the $$$ he is going to be asking for and you know some dumb team will to give it to him, I just pray its not the Lakers.
I say go for him. Rondo, Kobe, Swaggy P, Randle and hopefully Jahlil Okafor would be our starting line up for next year.
He's definitely going to get a max deal. I don't have a problem with it. He's a freak competitor and a champion. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/08/sports/basketball/08celtics.html?_r=0
There's no more getting good players/stars for "decent/deserved" money in todays NBA (not counting the likes of Dirk or Timmy). You either overpay and pray it pans out, or you play without them...
All great points. I was a Rondo to the Lakers supporter, but you might have just convinced me otherwise.... at least if it's for the max, that sounds like a steep price for a player that will be just joining us at age 30.
rondo's such a tricky case. he's come up huge in big games, but you better have the right folks around him. the lakers don't have that right now, and at the cost it would take to get him, they may not be able to put those guys around him soon enough. I probably still go for it, simply because the FA market is pretty weak next year, and he's the only proven winner in the bunch who might actually switch teams.
He'll be playing C for Gonzaga this year. I don't follow college ball, so I don't know if he's starting. He's 6'10", supposed to have a good post game, good jumper, decent three, and he's a good passer.
And he probably won't have to end his storied career getting pummelled by a 7 foot 300 pound monster.
Don't make me go back and watch clips of Sonics Bulls. I recall Schrempf being a solid player. Are you insinuating that by solid I should think of a statue?
