I don't think Kylo and Rey are related. Nor do I lean towards the idea that Rey is a descendant of Luke's, I thought she could be his daughter at first but have backed off that little. I do think they were both pupil's of Luke's jedi academy and knew each other. Rey was the superior student, Ben couldn't handle it. He had this expectation of himself as someone who had Skywalker blood that he should be the best. Frustration, ambition, jealousy, anger, all caused him to turn to the dark side. Like Owen and Leia/Han said, there's too much Anakin in him. So either he falls into Snoke's lap by chance or sought him out, or Snoke sought Ben out. Ben joins the Knights of Ren and becomes Kylo Ren. They slaughter the jedi and somehow Luke and Rey escape. Her memory is lost/altered in the process. Maybe Luke force-wiped her mind, but I won't rule out that her memories were compromised in some conflict with Kylo Ren. So the visions she sees when she touches the lightsaber may not be memories, but could be either literal or symbolic visions. So maybe she wasn't necessarily a little girl when she was left on Jakku. Regardless, for her own safety Luke then leaves her on Jakku and goes into exile, which mirrors what Yoda did after failing to stop the Emperor. Later when Rey touches the lightsaber, which is probably shrouded heavily in the force given that it belonged to both Anakin and Luke, it awakens the force inside her. This effect is later amplified when Kylo tries to mind-rape her.

As for any romance between Rey and Finn, I think they laid groundwork for that possibility in the future but also left room to back off that idea. Personally, I saw it as them being really close friends. As far as they know, they are the first friends that they have ever had. One was a raised as a stormtrooper from birth, one was abandoned on a planet to scratch out a meager living. I mean I guess Poe and Finn certainly bonded under duress during their escape, but they didn't have enough time to develop a deeper friendship. Honestly, I would prefer if there was no romance angle between Rey and Finn.

I think Finn is the wildcard in this new group. The writers/director have creative license to take him anywhere. Poe is like a cross between Wedge and Han. Rey is the new Luke. BB is the droid obviously. Finn's backstory is unique. He doesn't fit the Leia or Chewie archetype...he's a very interesting character to me. Wonder what direction they'll take him.

I just had ANOTHER interesting idea about Finn to add to my previous post. So a couple moments stood out as odd to me whenever it came to Kylo and Finn. We first see an instance of this at the very beginning of the movie. After Kylo captured Poe and is walking back to his ship, he stops and takes a long look at Finn. Why the special attention? Is it just that he senses that Finn lacks resolve or is it something more? When Poe escapes, immediately Kylo is able to deduce the stormtrooper who helped him is FN-2187. That's pretty weird that he would know the specific stormtrooper down to the number. Then near the end of the movie right before Kylo has a lightsaber duel with Finn, he screams TRAITOR rather passionately, as if there was more to it than just him being a turncoat. This is an awful lot of attention to be paying to just a random former stormtrooper. I mean this couldn't have been the first time a stormtrooper has decided to ditch the First Order.

Anyways, what if there is a connection between those two we have yet to see? We don't know anything about Finn's past. We do know that he was taken as a small child and reconditioned to become a stormtrooper. What if Ben, Finn, and Rey all used to know each other when they were children? What if they were ALL pupils at Luke's academy? They may have even been some sort of prodigies. Maybe they became friends? Maybe Finn and Rey were closer to each other and that made Ben jealous, or maybe Ben and Finn were really close but there was some sort of perceived personal "betrayal" that would explain the oomph to his TRAITOR scream later.

We know that Kylo Ren appeared to be an adult when the jedi academy massacre took place (from Rey's force vision). But what if THAT Kylo Ren was NOT Ben Organa-Solo (maybe his name wasn't even Kylo Ren!). Anyone could wear a mask, and it still could have been one of Luke's students gone to the dark side. This way the statement that "one of his students" went to the dark side and killed everyone is still true. Remember how they played with "a certain point of view" when it came to saying "Vader betrayed and murdered your father" in the OT? This could be one of those things.

Now perhaps Ben in an act of treachery somehow gives Snoke, the original "Kylo", and the Knights of Ren access to the location of the jedi academy and therefore allows them to carry out their massacre. That also begs the question, what happened to the rest of the Knights of Ren? I say that Luke arrives at the massacre but it is too late. He battles the Knights of Ren and kills them all. Perhaps he even battles Snoke but it ends up being a draw. Luke escapes and manages to save little Rey in the process. The damage being done, Snoke collects Ben and leaves. Ben takes up the mantle of Kylo Ren after Snoke decides he would make a powerful apprentice, and since his other apprentices are dead.

When the dust finally settles, Luke has managed to save Rey and place her on Jakku wiping her memory of what happened. Ben, in an act of childish petty revenge, does the same for Finn but makes him a lowly stormtrooper instead.

What do you all think? Sorry I am just having fun theorizing stuff.

Lol, that's a lot of theorizing there. I don't know, seems a bit too complex for a Star Wars plot to me, but who knows.

I did find it interesting when Ren stopped and looked at Finn at the beginning of the movie while he was still a Storm Trooper, but I thought it was more that he sensed a bit of The Force within Fin, but not enough to be an interesting pupil. Just enough to be noticed when Finn's emotions start to well up because of all the killing going on around him.

Just came back from a Sunday night viewing, I have question...

Is Finn suppose to be a Jedi too?

He's pretty clumsy with the light-saber and never experienced the "force".

I ask this because, Rey on the other hand is definitely a Jedi, or at least will be.

Finn is still to be determined. No conclusive evidence one way or the other at this point.

Yeah he absolutely does. I'm sure he'll be the master assassin on the squad, as he should be in every movie.

Seriously though, what freudian slip do you mean? I've been analyzing my 2 sentences for a few minutes now and can't find anything suspicious

You revealed you're really a Star Trek fan. ;)

I have a sneaking suspicion Snoke is really like Yoda sized despite how big he was portrayed in hologram. I say this because in the original trilogy the emperor was a small hologram but regular sized. It think it'd be funny if they flipped the script regarding that.

Don't got to be twins to be Force users. The twin thing just happens to run in Skywalkers that's all. There's plenty of children who are Force users that are only children or at least don't have a twin.

Definitely one of my ideas too. I'm not sure what size exactly, but smaller than normal I'd think. My friend saw it and he's a classic black guy talking in a movie stereotype. He said "DAMN that dude is huge! Oh wait it's just a picture! He might be super tiny!". Not really important I just thought it was funny.

Dude. There's literally millions of pages written about Star Wars. These movies and plots go deeper than casual fans could possibly know! In fact, Disney is banking on that fact and all their Star Wars mediums now exist around these movies so we'll see some of these theories fleshed out in a few years.

I agree I thought he felt the Force in him too. He at least felt enough of something in him to make him notice. To me that was proof that Finn is at least Force sensitive even if he's not technically enough to be a Jedi just like Maz Kenata.

It's super vague and they did that on purpose. I think they're a) keeping their options open for obvious reasons and b) they wanted to test the waters and see what people were open to. Disney/Lucas will now be testing the waters to see how interested people would be in Finn also being a Jedi. There are parts specifically lead to make you believe he's at least Force sensitive, but he may not be enough to be a Jedi. Some people have a little bit, but not enough.

I'll combine the two because I think you're overthinking it just a bit:

I'm wondering where they go with the twist because honestly to me it's pretty obvious that Rey is Luke's daughter. First of all she has no last name. Second of all it's clear that Han and Leia know who she is. The way they treat her, talk about her, act around her. It makes it clear there's some sort of vested interest there. Kylo also reacts really violently when he finds out she helped the droid escape. He gets pissed when he hears Finn helped, but when he hears "a girl" helped, he gets deadly and... scared?

Then there's the obvious moment when Maz and Han are talking and Maz says "so who is the girl?" and they cut away. Then there's the more obvious moment when Rey goes for the lightsaber and Maz says "That was Luke's and Luke's father's before him. Now it speaks to you." HM! I wonder why?

I do agree that Kylo probably knows her and I think she was definitely at Luke's academy. She knows too much about the Force to just be a random person. She knew enough to even try to grab the lightsaber at the end with the Force. She knew enough to even attempt to fool Daniel Craig's Stormtrooper into freeing her and dropping the weapon. She knows too much naturally to not know anything about the Jedi. I think she was in the academy and somehow was spared when Kylo Ren lost it. Then she was sent to Jakku with her mind altered so that she would protected from herself/others looking for her. Like I think she might have been well into training when Kylo turned to the Dark Side and then they wiped her memory to keep her safe.

As for Kylo/Finn, I don't know. I think at the end Kylo was just amped up. He did what he thought he needed to so that he could embrace the Dark Side fully. He was farther along than he ever had been before. I thought he was just angry. Who knows though? I like where your mind is at with that theory.

I could have gone with another 20-30 minutes for sure. At least to show some emotion out of certain characters.

Thanks real! Yea, my mind is definitely in overdrive trying to connect things. I didn't do any of this from prequel to prequel or for the OT. Hell I was a baby when RoTJ came out so by the time I watched the OT, it was back to back to back. No theorizing needed. It's just refreshing and fun throwing stuff out there and seeing what might stick.

As for Snoke's size, yea the hologram could definitely be a fake out. I think the first time we saw the emperor in ESB, he was just a huge head and half a torso. Snoke is still definitely shrouded in mystery.

I like these theories. At first when I was reading your theory on Rey/Kylo I thought no....but the more you got into it I could see that happening especially with the flashbacks from Rey touching the lightsaber. I feel like there's an epic backstory to Rey, Luke, Maz, and how she got Luke's lightsaber.

Who is Poe other than a great resistance pilot? Will he play a significant role? Why did they introduce him and return to him if he's just a pilot...

I have two more outlandish theories - #1) Luke has or will turn to the dark side. If you remember in the Return of the Jedi, the Emperor talks about how Luke tapped into his anger and injured Vader and that Luke was honing his dark side power. It wasn't Luke's resisting of the dark side that killed the Emperor, it was Vader tapping into what good he had left and deciding to turn on the Emperor in favor of his son. For all we know Luke is still very vulnerable to the dark side and as Yoda had warned, his training on Dagobah was never complete.

#2) Like you said something interesting is going to happen with Finn. I don't think he can use the Force (or at least doesn't know it at this point) but I believe he's more useful/powerful than anyone (including himself) knows. There will be a time where he turns to the dark side or a time that it appears as if he has returned to the dark side but I think will ultimately return to the good side, but something dramatic will happen to perpetuate it.
