While that's probably true, that's what makes Superman who he is. He's able to be a beacon of hope even with that much power by saying/doing the right things even when he has the power to control the situation. He's supposed to be the embodiment of justice. Sure, it's more realistic that he'd succumb to that power, but it's a story about a perfect being. It's not going to be super realistic. The other thing too is like Sama said: it's not so difficult to write a great Superman story. He's haunted by all the people he can't save as he hears so much suffering and even as powerful as he is, he can't fix everyone... Powerful stuff.
It's DOOMSDAY after all. Interesting. After seeing that trailer though, I have mixed feelings about the quality of this movie.
Looks pretty good, Batfleck is fine but my main concern is Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. It just doesn't work for me.
Hmmmmmmm... I am losing faith instead of gaining it. Too much on the nose dialogue. I also did not like Luthor at all... Feels like they're trying to do campy AND dark.
Ok... just watched the trailer this morning. My .02 Canadian cents: 1. The Facebook movie guy as Lex Luthor? They couldn't get anyone better? He sounds and looks so annoying in that trailer. He doesn't exude that sophistication and menace that Lex has. It's like they're trying to harken back to Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor but doesn't quite get it. 2. Banter between Bruce & Clark. Well done. And then Lex shows up and starts speaking :| 3. Doomsday? Ugh! My least favorite Superman villain. 4. Gal Gadot looks HAWT! 5. Not really excited for this movie. I mean... I've read the Dark Knight Returns sooo many times so I have an idea how Batman and Superman clashes go. It's exciting for those not familiar with the comic books (and the kids for sure)... but for this comic book nerd. Meh. 6. They revealed a lot in that movie. I can pretty much piece together the plot. 7. I'm honestly more excited for Suicide Squad.
Seriously it felt like the writers were sitting around giggling at their own little jokes as Lex just kind of points out the obvious. Too on the nose for me. You could have had him walk up and just say,"Gentlemen! Welcome!" then Bruce says," Hello Lex". Then he shakes their hands and kind of grimaces at Clark's grip and gives him a double take. No words necessary from Luthor that express everything the fan boy is supposed to be feeling.
Rumors that's not actually Lex Luthor but his son? That whole scene where Bruce and Kurt are talking was awesome until Lex shows up, like why the annoying voice. Lex to me should be a more stoic, calm but calculating type. Watching the trailer again, idk how I feel. I might like it cause I'm a sucker for super hero movies with multiple characters in it.
Hmm, I definitely want to see it, but they showed too much in that trailer, I feel like I watched the whole movie. And for some reason Eisenberg doesn't bother me, I finally get what they are going for, crazy modern type of rich geek. Could work in the actual movie, have to see. I love everything between Bruce and Clark though, that could carry the movie, Affleck especially looks great. And one big compliment, his Batman-voice is finally good. People mocked Bale for his, but Affleck sounds right on.
I don't like the crazy modern rich geek. It feels like Zuckerberg is Lex. Which is unfortunate considering Eisenberg was Zuckerberg.
So I watched it again and after the shine wears off it just get worse. Superman is an arrogant jerk, Batman is now a much smarter Donald Trump aka militant xenophobe, or in truth Lex Luther from the comics. Lex seems to be channeling some blend of Jim Carrie's riddler blended with Zuckerberg. And doomsday is one part ninja turtle from the new movies, one part the abomination from the hulk movie, and has a glowing LotR cave troll head. The banter is ok at first, but the whole intro to wonder woman is awful. Especially the is she with you line. What a train wreck of bull crap. Go watch Civil Wars trailer or Star Wars trailer, hell even the DD s2 or flash season 2 trailer and try comparing BvS to them. Forgive my rant, but I was hoping this would be good, but this has confirmed my suspicions about how bad its really going to be. Disney, please go buy Time Warner all all its underlings, including WB so I can get a DCCU worth watching...
I guess my expectations for DC movies are so low, when they look even remotely interesting I'm not so disappointed. I don't think they should have gone with Eisenberg as Lex, but unlike at first where I couldn't picture it, I at least get it now. I also think not growing up reading any Superman comics (or watching the cartoons, or the original movies until a couple years ago), not knowing who Doomsday is aside from references to him in pop culture, and pretty much not giving a s*** about Superman growing up, this doesn't go against anything I know. I also have never seen anything Wonder Woman related other than maybe a justice league cartoon DVD, and references on Robot Chicken and Family Guy.
Someone recut the trailer. It's infinitely better this way. Just goes to show how manipulative trailers can be (I'm looking at you Man of Steel *shakes fist*)
Even the biggest Superman fanboy on Youtube I know (game reviewer Angry Joe) is disappointed in the trailer. Look, I'll still give it a shot. But man... that trailer just took down my hype so many notches.
