Kevin Durant to media: You treated Kobe Bryant ‘like s—‘
    4 Comments
By Dan FeldmanNov 30, 2015, 3:35 PM EST
Kevin Durant once told the media, “You guys really don’t know s—.”

The Thunder star expressed regret, but if he knew how we were going to treat Kobe Bryant, he might have stuck to his guns.

Durant, via Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman:

I did idolize Kobe Bryant. I studied him, wanted to be like him. He was our Michael Jordan. I watched Michael towards the end of his career when he was with the Wizards, and I seen that’s what Kobe emerged as the guy for us.

I’ve been disappointed this year because you guys treated him like s—. He’s a legend, and all I hear is about how bad he’s playing, how bad he’s shooting. It’s time for him to hang it up. You guys treated one of our legends like s—, and I didn’t really like it. So hopefully, now you can start being nice to him now that he decided to retire after this year. It was sad the way he was getting treated, in my opinion.

But he had just an amazing career, a guy who changed the game for me as a player mentally and physically. Means so much to the game of basketball. Somebody I’m always going to look to for advice, for help, for anything. Just a brilliant, brilliant, intelligent man. And it’s sad to see him go.

Kobe is shooting 20% from the floor and 30% on 3-pointers for a 2-14 team. How else should we describe his season?

Why not bash the person most publicly critical of Kobe? Or the many people around the NBA who recognize how far Kobe has fallen? Or Byron Scott, who has repeatedly intensified discussion of Kobe’s demise?

Why is the media, which is not some monolithic entity anyway, the primary target?

There are writers who fawn over Kobe, writers who criticize him and many more who do both. We don’t all think alike.

If we did, Durant would be bound to treat Kobe like s—, too.

Kobe, Thank you for everything. You are the best basketball player I've seen. Time to let the young guns develop and go back to being a contender. Will miss ya.

He is the hardest working player ever to play in the NBA and one of the best in sports.
He is more than the game, he is a role model for kids and adults. And not in the Lebron 'i'm cool' way, the old fashioned way. I learned from him how to find streangth when things gets tough.
He made me happy so many times in my 28 years that I'm thankful in ways that words can't explain.
He is one of the top all around shooters ever touch a basketball , a clutch preformer, a champion, a legend and a mentor. For all of that, he is a top 10 player on the all time greates and in the top 3 guards with MJ and Magic.

Durant shouldn't have qualified his statement with "this year". He should have ended at "you guys treated him like s***", because they have treated a legend like s***, for his entire career. That stupid a*** "Kobe isn't top 10 ever because I'm some stat-geek hater who never really watched him play" article is just more proof.

as an old fart, i knew this day was coming.
so long and be thankful for the memories.
my best Kobe memory: he's leaping up and down for sheer joy when game 5 wound down with the Lakers in control. His first title without Shaq.

Man now I wish I did buy those Philly tickets. I have to admit when we first traded for Kobe, I had no idea who he was. My best friend did and he assured me it was a good trade. Little did he know....so many memories, so many good times. I just wished he had gotten that 6th ring. If Malone doesn't get injured, maybe, just maybe. But I am happy to have witness one of the very best play for my team.

kobe's work ethic and dedication and non stop drive were something i looked up to growing up. even without his brilliant basketball skills, these were traits i admired. there will not be another player with the effort to his craft, combined with pure skill and love of the game. ive been so sad since this announcement but he needs to be celebrated. like many who got to see MJ, magic, kareem play, i consider mysely truly blessed to have witness him

It's gonna be him walking off the court after the 81 point game just like the background of the letter they gave out at the Pacers game

Tony Parker said on his French radio show Kobe was Top 5 all time for him

    - Kobe and him had good times together during ASGs despite SAS-Lakers rivarly at that time

    - He hopes Kobe will play in Rio ( and France too)
