I couldn't agree more. What some don't realize is the wear and tear on both ends. Sure it's easy to say post up, but for a guy who is so banged up and with all that mileage to just ask him to post up all the time he can't do it. Defensively you know teams will attack him. That's why he's gassed every game. No matter how many minutes he plays.

You're talking about a guy who's probably aching all over and you're asking him to take a beating in the post at 37 years old. Then there's also the mortality factor. For his entire career this dude has been Superman now all of a sudden he's not even Robin anymore. I mean that's such a difficult adjustment for anyone to fall that far. Then having to defer and be a secondary option when that hasn't happened since Shaq and even then he was more like 1B.

Kobe has given everything he has to this orginization and us as Laker fans. I think he's the best player to ever put on that uniform. I cannot imagine how difficult it is for him to endure what he has had to the last few years. The fact that he has continued to try and come back just further elevates his greatness to me. He had nothing left to prove, but he still wanted to do it because he loves the Lakers so much and this game. That's why he's my favorite player. Always will be.

Please quote where I called for him to go in the post.

We are asking him to stop jacking up threes since he currently stinks at shooting them. I don't see anything wrong or crazy about that.

There isn't anything crazy about suggesting he stop shooting his 3's. He's a becoming a net negative on the court when he plays like that; honestly, Kobe needs to rest some more, and I hate to say that. It's bad enough when the coach his enabling him, and Kobe is intelligent enough to know those just aren't good shots; he just can't seem too put his ego aside at times.

    It's whatever...

Agreed. You worded that better than I did. lol.

But that's my main thought here. I put a lot of this on Kobe's ego right now. I think he can play more efficiently out there but he's being stubborn.

Not disagreeing. I also pointed out that he could become solely a catch and shoot player offensively. Which do you think is more likely for him at this point?

I think being a catch and shoot guy is the right idea for him.

I honestly think the most likely thing is he is gonna keep doing what he's doing now. I don't think anyone is going to reign him in.

Sadly, an injury will. That's about the only thing...

Well that's the point I'm getting at. There's no ideal spot for him anymore because ideally he'd retire. He's just not cut out for the rigors of the NBA anymore and honestly it's hard to watch him do this after all the great things he's done in his career. Seeing the fanbase kind of turn against him now in his last season is almost as depressing as his play on the court.

The best case scenario is what we got against Detroit: Kobe creating shots and finding guys out of the pick and roll/midpost/midrange area. Unfortunately he's not capable of playing at a high level any other way at this point and even then he's only capable of doing that once every few games. I don't believe he'd be a good catch and shoot player.

The Kobe should get called out for his stupid play, that much is obvious. But, I don't think the comparisons to Dirk and Duncan are fair either. Kobe is a guard, a position that relies on speed, playing at an old age with a torn achilles. Big guys in general keep their effectiveness longer as they age as they don't rely on speed and athleticsm as much.

Regarding Kobe creating for others, for him to that effectively he has to be a threat on the offensive end. He really isn't a threat anymore, others teams would be foolish to double team him or have guys shade over. It's going to be hard for him to create effectively.

    Not disagreeing with you.

Since no one answered my question, I googled it myself and Kobe's career total minutes are not that much more than Duncan and Dirk:

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/mp_career.html

So I do think it was the achilles, shoulder injury, AND his usual stubborn self that has led to his painful and sad demise.

I mean it truly is quite sad seeing fans turn against him.

Honestly, I'm not against him. I want to see him succeed in his farewell tour, I'm just against him doing blatantly stupid things that are detrimental to the team and his own image. I still think he can absolutely be an effective player even with the injuries and the mileage. If we curtail his minutes, make him shoot less (as in no) 3's, and have him facilitate more like he did against the Pistons, that would be a great start. Defensively, well...we'll have to live with what we can get from him. Doesn't mean he shouldn't be held accountable. I don't believe 100% of what we see is all on his body on that end of the floor. I do think there are times where he plainly just doesn't give a f***.

Sad to say, I'm already in tank mode, unless Scott gets fired, Kobe gets off the floor, nothing will change, If those two things happen we may see a turnaround to some respectability.

To add to this, guards don't play 20 years in the NBA, they just don't. A couple played 19, Kidd and Stockton, but their games were played closer to the floor, not so much on athleticism. Kobe has those tools too, to not have to rely on athleticism, or he wouldn't have made it this long, but now not having any blow-by ability or the ability to rise up and shoot over guys has hurt him. 20 years is a hell of a lot, we should not be surprised to see Kobe struggling to put together entire good games with those years and his injuries. They said when he injured his achilles that not many players have ever come back the same from that, and they weren't kidding.

I'd say he's jacking up threes because his legs are completely dead and he can't move ... not an excuse though
