Byron's substitutions were better this game. Still yanking Russ late in the 4th is a huge wtf.

I took no pleasure in this win other than feeling good for the players. It bought Byron unwarranted praise, and it gives false hope. Nets are the only team worse than us, so there's almost nothing I can take from this game that matters. So Byron finally stopped playing Kelly and started using Tarik, and finally threw MWP out there for a defensive boost, and so what? Had he done that from game 1 like we were all screaming, maybe we have another win or 2. We will resume the losing against competent teams from here on out, and hopefully Byron is fired. I'm not impressed by squeaking out a win vs the worst team in the league.

It's nice to get a win. There's not much to take away from this since the Nets are such a poor team. There were some improvements in defensive intensity, and Byron's substitution patters weren't as horrible as usual.

I do feel that if we had played like we did today, we would have won against Denver and the Timberwolves as well. We'd be 3-2.

I too wasn't too impressed by this win. I am glad we didn't go 0-5 like we did last year. But with the Nets being one of the worst teams in the league, if we were any better the margin would and should have been larger. Add to the fact we had too many mistakes at the end that nearly cost us the game. I still think our talent is better than our record but at this point it's obvious as long as Scott is still coach it's going to take time for it to come together.

Agreed. The first quarter was fugly and we were playing catch up for some time. Glad that we scraped a win out of this and I'm thrilled that Byron finally decided to put MWP in as well as Nance who did well and Black who has really been good. But it begs the question, if he needed defense and we did badly, why did it take this long to sub him in for Kobe. That seemed like a total no-brainer to me. Especially with Kobe's continued struggles offensively.

The bottom line is that Byron still looks like he's throwing things out there to see what sticks instead of having a good understanding of his personnel. Granted this is the first time he's coaching a lot of these guys, but . . .

We also had to play really scrappy and hard and we still barely eeked out a win against a bad team. It shouldn't be this hard with our talent level. We should have a much better organized offense and defense to make this smoother for the players and not have them at the end of a short rope rotation-wise.

But don't get me wrong. I'm happy we at finally got a win! Just seems like the way we're going it will be extremely tough and we're not playing any of the better teams in the league yet.

I'm happy we won. It was just nice to get a win. This group really needed one especially the young guys just to instill some confidence. They've shown signs of doing some good things. Playing solid defense, team defense, good rotations, contesting and extending, getting on the boards, better movement, not as many isolations, the screen and rolls with Russell and he showed how proficient he is at them.

Still is it the Brooklyn Nets, but regardless of who it is I'm glad we finally showed we can play well for an extended period of time. If it wasn't for that horrific start we win going away. Loved to see the Lance Jr. kid get some run. Artest brought a defensive presence to the ball game. Second unit is just a lot more active when Artest, Lance Jr, and Black are getting minutes.

As for Byron I mean again he's been saying Russell needs to earn minutes. Kid was the best player on the court. Not sure what more you want Byron. He was a lot more energetic, active, involved, and aggressive in the game last night. Looked for his shot. Did a good job not just settling for three pointers.

Kobe 2/10 from three. You can't shoot anymore Kobe. Just STOP. You're killing this team with all those ill advised three's.

Well back to our losing ways. Led most of the game albeit by only a few points. Got up by about 6 at one point, then last half of the fourth quarter couldn't buy a bucket even if it was free. Kobe was hitting shots early then cooled down. Hibbert had a nice offensive game hitting free throws and such. MWP was a nice surprise off the bench hitting some outside shots and actually bothered Melo on D. Too may offensive rebounds by the Knicks and way too many breakdowns defensively resulting in uncontested dunks and lay ups. Nobody was really spectacular, it was just our lack of scoring down the stretch that lost us the game...and Scott. I blame every loss on Scott.

What is sad though is that even when we were leading late I still expected to lose. No ball movement just chucking.

If our offense continues to be Kobe isolation down the stretch in close games, we are going to lose winnable games.

I don't have a whole lot of complaints. I was happy with the rotations for the most part, I was happy with a lot of our play and our defensive effort, but then that final few minutes came. All went to hell.

Fun fact - the last team that recovered from an 0-4 start to make the playoffs in the West were the Mavs in 2006-07.

Looking at our next few opponents, I don't see a scenario where we can win a game based on our performance unless someone tapes Saran Wrap on the opponents basket. We could be looking at a 1-10 start. Surely that's enough to get Scott fired right? Or at least a step in that direction?

Yeah I don't think theres a way we are getting more than 1 win on this road trip, we could have easily won none but Nets are as bad as we are and we got lucky.

offense completely broke down late in ny. kobe (finally and wisely) opts out of the iso 20 ft from the hoop...and then Clarkson gives it back to him IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT. I should have stopped watching right then, but I apparently hate myself.
