Kobe Bryant (left leg) to miss Saturday exhibition vs. Warriors
    1h - NBA KOBE BRYANT +1 more

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant sat out practice Friday for a second straight day with a lower leg contusion and has been ruled out of Saturday's preseason game against the Golden State Warriors in San Diego.

The 37-year-old Bryant suffered his injury Tuesday during a preseason loss to the Sacramento Kings in Las Vegas, but Lakers coach Byron Scott said he isn't worried about Bryant, whose past three seasons have all been cut short by injury.

"No, not really. Not at all, to be honest with you," Scott said Friday after practice at the team facility. "It's just a little soreness on the muscle. It's not bone or anything like that.

"He came out [Friday] and got some shooting up, but again, for precautionary reasons there's no need to have him try to play [Saturday] when we've got two more preseason games after that and six days before the start of the regular season."

Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center and then face the Warriors again on Thursday in Anaheim.

The Lakers open the regular season Oct. 28 against the Minnesota Timberwolvesat Staples Center. Bryant returned to the court this preseason after spending nine months rehabbing a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, which ended his 2014-15 season after 35 games. His prior two seasons ended because of Achilles and knee injuries.

Bryant is entering his 20th season with the Lakers and the final season of his contract with the team, during which he'll be paid a league-high $25 million.

I'd just keep him out for the rest of the preseason. Take no chances. However as minor as this may be, it's better to take precautionary action.

I'm guessing this has more to do with Lamar's situation than with some minor bruising issue. If it was regular season and things were fine, he'd be playing.

If a bruise takes Kobe out this long, we are in for a very interesting season for him. I'll almost be shocked if he finishes on his own terms at this rate, dude has become brittle, Father Time really does catch up to the best of the best. It's like watching Payton Manning right now, sad, wobbly passes all over the place.

I am confused how father time is involved here.

No one, not a doctor in the world, will be able to convince me that there is some astounding, and universal for all humans, difference in healing ability from 33 to 37, especially in things like bruises. I am 40 and I call BS. There may be one between 25 and 37, but even then it's more about day-to-day recovery of muscles and such, not about being able to heal a paper cut faster.

Point is - him being slow to recover:

    1. is not related to his age, at least not in the context people here use it
    2. may just be precaution
    3. may have been, from the get go, more than a bruise

    Stop with the panic.

I didn't think I was panicking, I thought I was being realistic. Old Kobe could play through almost anything. Current Kobe gets taken out for weeks by leg contusion. If they're lying and it's more serious that's one thing, but a bruise, and he may not play opening night? Father Time. It's not age 33 vs 37, it's 20 years of NBA ball plus playoffs and international play plus blown achilles vs less years and no blown achilles. All I'm saying is I will not be surprised if Kobe misses a lot of time this season, or doesn't finish the season still standing. I think the last 2 seasons have prepared me for this though, I'm used to this team without Kobe and I look forward to the future.

He was going to pay the fact his minutes were never monitored , playing through injuries and his role on the team wasn't reduced one day or the other ...

I think it's just misplaced. Basically: ...old Kobe could play through almost anything...

    There is no need.
The same bruise would probably sidelined him, in absolute terms, for the same amount of time as today.
I'ts just that back then he'd force himself back, and heal on the job.

So that's good news. I just hope nobody pokes him in the ribs or taps him on the head, steps on his toe first game back, he might be out a month.

Ah I'm just poking some fun at the old man. Never been able to make fun of Kobe for sitting out with a boo boo before, that's always been LeBron. Caution is good though, he's fragile.
