So Kershaw showed up and didn't let the 7th inning get him. NOICE! I think this is our year finally. The Cubs beat our true nemesis in the playoffs the fricken cards. I don't see Degram (sp?) having a repeat of game 1 in our house.
I don't think this is our still... Even if we get past deGrom I feel like we're not going to get past the Cubs... They feel a heck of a lot like the "destiny" team, you know? We feel like we're struggling to do much of anything.
I mean kind of, yeah. No they just have a ton of momentum going their way and things like ^^that just kind of add to the national attention they've gotten.
Do you think it would be too much just to have Kershaw and Greinke pitch out the playoffs (if they get through)? I mean, you have arguably the top 2 pitchers in baseball in their prime, and a handful of games left. I mean, if there is a 2-0, 3-0 game lead, then I can using the Anderson or something. Bumgardner did it for the Giants last year pitching back to back games. But if it goes 1-1, or 2-1, I'd go right back to Kershaw and Greinke like they did for Game 4.
^^^ as amazing as MadBum was, he didn't pitch back to back. He started 2 games and came in relief for game 7, but had 2 days rest. And while Greinke and Kershaw are great, they haven't proven it in the post season like MadBum has. 2 studs should be enough. Win their starts and you win the series. But it's not that easy because they can't always go 9. Team effort (as I'm sure you know).
No you don't go crazy with their starts. Have some jerk like Anderson or Wood start one game each series and just hope and pray Greinke and Kershaw have it in them to win every game they pitch. That's a freaking LOT to ask of them.
Real- I actually am more on our side than the cubs. Lets be honest we have to get past next game first which isn't a given but I don't think the kid from NY duplicates game one. Remember in that game and game 2 we were like 2 for 15 (or worse) with RISP. We were getting guys into the money spots just no cashing in while the Mets jumped on 2 mistakes by Kersh to basically win game 1. Now back to the point. Over the last few years we have been the team going into the playoffs with the most hype and the "Dodgers this year" by the pundits. This year we have been all over the map. We've struggled to put up runs and then we explode for like 15. We look pedestrian against a pitcher who has a 6.whatever ERA and then dominate an Ace. We have had runs all year and it seems like just that time to get a little mojo going. I can be absolutely full fanboy but truthfully after all I've seen from us over the last few this seems like the type of climbing and fighting that would be Dodgers style to get to (and win) the WS. I hope im right!
I hope you're right too man I just feel like we're asking way too much of Kershaw and Greinke. It's really unfair to them. I just feel like it's going to come back to bite the Dodgers that they spent all that money... and didn't get a 3rd starter or a bullpen worth a crap.
The thing with Kersh (hell and the bullpen for that matter) isn't the pitching. I've said this for the last two seasons it is hitting especially timely hits. We have fallen short so many times in that area. Again, look at Kershaw's first game before he gave up the bombs we had RISP a couple innings straight and couldn't plate one. He is going into the 7th with maybe a 1 run lead or trailing by a run or two. He is having to try to do it himself. Our run support for him sucks. We give Grienke much more support. Anderson isn't a shut down pitcher but I watched the two big hits that blew that game open and both were well hit balls but horribly played by our CF. Not absolving the pitcher of loading the bases but we were sitting on a 3-1 lead at the time and granderson hits a ball off the wall our CF is playing shallow as hell. Bases clear and we give up the lead. The announcers harped on that a couple times. That game got away from us eventually so it didn't matter but the point I am making is we put some of those runs on the board our pitchers are doing different things on the mound. You are right we should of gone out and got some more arms too. I just think the batting talent of this team should be plating more than 3 runs a game. For Kersh and Grienke that is usually more than enough. I've been waiting for our bats to come together at the same time for 3 seasons now.... 3rd times the charm? maybe. hopefully.
I don't disagree, but you can't tell me that asking Greinke and Kershaw to pitch perfectly four times a series for three series is a reasonable thing to ask. It's unfair to them and to the fans. Sure, the bats have to give them runs I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying eventually Greinke or Kershaw will have a bad outing (maybe even today) and that'll mean we lose because guys like Anderson and Wood aren't 3rd starter caliber pitchers in the playoffs.
I agree 100% I just think that we are putting to much pressure on them to HAVE TO pitch perfect. We are too good a team to be shutout (more than any other team I believe this year) and only average a run or two a game when Kersh pitches. I personally get and agree where you guys are coming from just my focus is on us losing game with the other team scoring 3 runs. Our offense should be able to overcome that with ease. No reason for the quality bats we have to not be facing bullpens by the 6th inning. We let Degram off the hook in game one. I don't expect that to happen again especially with SA Smith hyping his Mets up so much today.
0 for the last 11 with that either can of corn and grandal looking at strike 3. Pretty much been my point. Cant blame pitching nor mattingly when guys simply dont hit the damn ball.
And thats a 1,2,3 inning. 57 of degrums 101 pitches were with us having RISP. I Got faith we will pull this off but im frustrated with us not pushing runs across
Grienke goes out with 2 on and 2 outs. Trailing by 1 where he should be up 3 or 4 runs right now. Lets see if bullpen can come in and actually get the big stop
