So the finale happened...... it was enjoyable, things happened. As a whole, the 6 episodes mini series was pretty meh. I was hoping it would have been quick paced showing us how the s*** hit the fan. What we got was a slow show that focused on a group of people, similar to the mother show.

At least TWD is returning next week.

Ugh, I'm so frustrated by that finale.

I didn't watch last week's episode until earlier today so I wasn't paying the most attention to it. I really just wanted to rush through it to get to tonight's finale. So I'm not sure if this was made explicit in last week's episode or not, but I was just in awe at the stupidity of their plan. When Daniel just walked up to the base casually, I thought it was pretty cool and he was going to try to talk to the soldiers. Then he revealed he had led an army of walkers to the base ... My first impression was, "wow, that's badass" but then that was immediately replaced by "WTF?! They're really going to try to kill a bunch of these innocent soldiers who probably weren't involved in the decision for "Cobalt" AND make their own task much more difficult, just to create a distraction to POSSIBLY rescue Liza/Nick? AND the soldiers didn't see the massive horde of zombies right behind him until he had time to say a cool line about saving their ammo?" I almost wanted to quit the show right there. And then again when the tortured army guy came back at the perfect time. OF COURSE, he's evil and going to make Travis pay for setting him free. Such a stupid typical TV "twist".

But the reason I'm so frustrated is because the finale still got me hooked and I'm going to have to tune in next season as well...

When the action actually ratcheted up and there were a bunch of zombies in play (despite the stupid fact that the main characters are the reason these zombies were even here to begin with) I actually felt tension and concern for the characters. While I thought the thing with the tortured army guy was dumb and cliche, at least it made Travis wisen up. At the end, while I didn't really care too much about the ex-wife, it was still a great scene. The music and cinematography actually made me feel for a plot point that I wouldn't really care about on paper. And on top of all that ... they pretty strongly implied the direction for next season and it's something that I've been dying to see in a zombie universe for a long time. Load up on supplies, go out on a yacht. Maybe find a small deserted island with a sustainable ecosystem.

So because of my general appreciation of the Walking Dead universe and AMC, this season did JUST enough to ensure that I'll come back for at least another season. And I hate it lol. I can already imagine all the BS they'll put the audience through next season just to get to a few very good moments. They'll spend a few episodes trying to get on the boat. Then a few slow episodes on the boat with no zombie action but boring manufactured drama between the characters including a cliche romance angle between Alicia and Chris, and tension between Madison and Travis because he's traumatized over killing his ex-wife. And then one of the characters, probably Ofelia from her gunshot wound, will pass away and turn into a zombie to introduce chaos on the boat and make them find somewhere else to go. Cue midseason finale.

Finally, someone in the TWD universe has the good sense to go to the coast in a zombie apocalypse. Hopefully FTWD stays there awhile.

Mixed feelings on the Finale. No mixed feelings on the show overall.

The finale finally had zombies. Ok, that's good. How they got there was the most ridiculous plot device they could possibly have come up with. Just horribad writing.

The show overall I'd give a Meh out of 10. One interesting character = Strand, who was not introduced until they realized that no one liked any of the cast. Probably won't watch next season.

Just so more points that made the plot worse:
    1. The old man frees all the zombies and leads them to the base? That easy huh? That hoard of zombies doesn't catch up to him or intimidate him at all? He walks them all the way over to the fence then easily walks away from them and around the corner and not a single soldier or zombie follows him? The people easily sneak into the facility right around the corner, no problem.

    2. Weird, unnecessary tension with three army guys stealing the SUV and getting physical with the daughter. Seriously what was that about? It had no impact on the story. They all just left afterwards anyway. It was a useless plot point except to show the step-brother being protective of her. Is that important at all?

    3. No one reacts the way a regular person would react. The mothers talking about killing each other and the blonde mom doesn't cry or show any sort of emotion really. Just terrible.

    4. The Hispanic father supposedly does all this stuff for his wife, finds out she's dead, and they just shrug it off and walk out. Alright.

    5. Hispanic dad not upset at all that the Army guy is still alive and shoots his daughter. I'd pretty damn upset.

    6. It took the Hispanic guy how long to find out the Army guy wasn't in the truck? As soon as the cars stop and everyone gets out, he should have been immediately pissed off. Immediately because it leaves a loose end that of course is going to bite them in the butt at the last minute. Hey here's an idea! Why not have the Army guy show up and threaten the kids instead of just some random Army guys.

    7. Minor directing/editing issue: Strand gets his cuffs off the dying guy and the walker doesn't even look at him. Then more walkers show up and Strand runs in the opposite direction of the crack head and then he is suddenly next to him with a gun. Doesn't make sense.

    8. Rick makes it like a quarter of the way into Atlanta before getting swarmed but these guys made it all the way through LA with nothing. LA is how many times larger than Atlanta?

    9. The boat out in the ocean looked really terrible. Not really a plot thing, but it was really poor CGI.

    10. Why did the dad freak out like that? He's shown absolutely ZERO in terms of violent ability or even rage or anger. He's shown almost no emotion thus far. Even when he was punching the hell out of this guy's face he wasn't like yelling or expressing some suppressed rage. If he was, it just was terrible acting.

All of this, plus there were more issues. It's like every scene had an issue.

The daughter let's the Dad know she is upset he lied to her about being the victim. She is NOT upset to find out that the guy tortured people, just that he lied about it. Ok

The Heroin kid pick pockets the key from Strand. For what plot purpose? He was already going with Strand. Just to prove he could? Ok

The kid tells his Mom that everyone else is now living in his world. She just stands there with a stupid look on her face. Ok

The hispanic mom is bit. No mark at all on her clothes. Did the zombie politely lift up her top to bite her? Ok

Very first big hand to hand zombie fight that any of these characters have ever been in, and they are bashing heads like they've been on TWD for the entire series. Ok

    I forgot a big one.

The two moms have the scene where the one reveals she was bit and needs to be shot. She appeals to Madison to not make Travis do it because it would break him. Then Travis comes up finds out she is bit and Madison hands the gun to Travis without hesitation and without the other mom protesting at all about Travis shooting her.
Apparently Madison wants to break Travis and the other mom didn't remember she was just concerned about him.

    You guys and your logic.

I've been watching Z Nation for a few weeks now and that show makes Fear The Walking Dead's writing and plot look like Breaking Bad.

I wish they could have skipped the rest of the season to get to this episode.

It wasn't exactly good writing or anything, but it had lots of zombies in it, and that's what matters :p

When does FTWD come back and how do I watch it? I thought I saw something about "for more episodes, go to whatever online..."

After 6 episodes of TWD (season 1), I was hooked. After 6 episodes of FTWD (season 1), not a fan. In fact, I think the only episode I kinda liked was the pilot. Everything else was downhill fast.

EDIT: wow a lot of people on reddit loved the finale and the whole season. different strokes for different folks i guess. Personally, TWD is all the zombie show I need, everything else will pale in comparison.

There are webisodes but with a different cast and different setting. It's on a jet. I haven't seen it.

It was slow burn but as a whole I enjoyed the first season. The finale made up for a lot of that. It's got a 7.7 on imbd rating so that's not bad at all. I see a lot of nitpicking here. There's a certain sense of disbelief that I throw out the window when watching tv shows.

I hated it... but if there was another episode I'd probably watch it?...

Just to see if it got any more ridiculous or if the actors improved at all.

If there was no TWD, then I probably would have liked this show more. The problem is they set a high standard with TWD and this spin off failed miserably to meet that standard. Much worse cast, writing, story.

I think it's better than TWD. I already care about basically every character in it - except the barber, but even he did some awesome stuff.

Now you have me in curious mode. There is not one thing about this show that I find better than TWD. I'm interested in hearing what you like better about it, and especially what in the characters you care about.

Don't really care for the characters just yet, but I like the setting more so than the rural south in TWD.
