Let's get the rumor mill going for the new season! Lakers stuff starts around 1:15. Also drops Melo's name in there.

That was the most confusing speculation I've heard in a while.

"IF Durant doesn't wanna stay in OKC, the Lakers are his #1 priority. But I've been hearing Kobe, Melo, Durant in NY too. But if Durant doesn't want to stay in OKC, the Lakers are his top choice. But Washington and Miami think they have a shot too."

    What?

Young up and coming core to lead...glamour franchise...taking over for 24 as its face...endorsements other than Sonic... What's there not to like?

Smith may be loud but he's more credible than Broussard, Bucher and any other media talking head. I still think Durant staying an Okie until proven otherwise.

Yeah I don't really buy it, but if he wants LA, hell yeah I want Durant.

    Russell
    Clarkson
    Durant
    Randle
    Hibbert?

    Sign me up.

Oh and I'm really not buying the Durant/Kobe/Melo NY thing. There's not enough basketballs for that in the United States.

At this point, the biggest reason I want this may be just to shut up the endless talk of us not being able to get big time free agents.

I'm just going to enjoy this season. A bit early to start the rumor mill for me lol

But if you have a legitimate chance to land Durant, you do it no questions asked. That would be hard not to look forward to.

I might even change my cell service to Sprint!

If this happens though, someone's prayers will have been answered.

That would mean he won't be going anywhere, and would actually "probably" deserve to stay.

For me Durant should go to the Wizards if OKC dosen't reach the Finals. He is a quiet guy who wants to develop his own legacy on a less attractive team. Coming back home to play with a prime John Wall and hugh talent as Bradley Beal. They are better suited for him than Westbrook. You get a chance to play in a weaker eastern conference and bringing a club to championship after 40 years.
Far better than any championship in LA, NY or Miami from his standpoint.

But sure i will take him :)

Not just that but you'd still have Lou, Nance Jr, and presumably Tarik Black (RFA). You'd still have Upshaw if he comes through. Where it gets weird: What does Kobe do? What if Durant really wants Kobe back and Kobe wants one more shot at a ring? Who comes off the bench? Jordan or D'Angelo would be my guess. I'm starting to have my doubts D'Angelo is going to be a solid starter right away anyway.

    Clarkson/Russell
    Bryant/Jabari?
    Durant/Young
    Randle/Black
    Hibbert/Upshaw

I'm thinking Kobe would play at most 28 minutes per game at that point. Clarkson would probably be Kobe's primary backup.

    Russell (24) / Lou (18) / Clarkson (6)
    Kobe (28) / Clarkson (20)
    Durant (34) / Young (14)
    Randle (30) / Black (16) / Nance Jr. (2)
    Hibbert (26) / Upshaw (12) / Black (10)

Any way this shakes out, the major positive to all this is that he is a free agent NEXT summer. That gives everyone 1 full season to see how healthy his foot really is.

That's the greatest team on the planet, in all dimensions.
Youth + Superstars + Veterans + explosivness + amazing bench + athleticism + Kobe finishing career with a 6'th championship.

Yeah, I was only listing starters to show how good we'd already look. If Kobe stayed, yes he continues to start. If Huertas works out, there's no reason he couldn't be retained for next season as well, adjusting your lineup to

    Russell/Huertas
    Kobe/Clarkson

Kobe's minutes will continue to go down, so I think he and Clarkson could split there pretty well. It doesn't have to be Huertas either, there's always vet PG's out there. I do see Russell as a starter by next season though.

Durant doesn't have the prime time left to wait for our crew to grow up so bringing him in essentially means busting up our young core at least a little bit. One or two of our good young pieces would likely go out to bring in some combination of disgruntled stars/role players/vets because the Lakers FO would immediately and understandably go into "championship now" mode.

And we potentially have assets developing if needed for a sign and trade if required.
