Paul Pierce Says It Will Be Tough for Kobe Bryant to Accept Reduced Role

    Chris Carlson/Associated Press
Paul Pierce seems to be very aware the end of his career is approaching, even going so far as to say he will probably retire if the Los Angeles Clippers win a championship this season, according to ESPN.com's J.A. Adande (via Bleacher Report's Joe Pantorno).

And so, entering a new season with his new team, the 37-year-old recognizes he will be playing a smaller roleā€”and he's OK with that, though he apparently can't say the same for Kobe Bryant.

Pierce took a jab at the Los Angeles Lakers guard Friday while speaking with Fred Roggin on The Beast 980, saying he thinks it will be tough on "some guys" in L.A. to accept that "reduced" role:

    such a green turd...

Great title. Yeah I saw that headline earlier today on Yahoo but had not read it. My immediate thought was ...what, who was he to be saying what kind of role / style of game Kobe Bryant needs to "accept"? Worry about yourself chump, Kobe is going to ball his a** off to the level of his capabilities in a team atmosphere this year with all the help and as a leader. Long as he's healthy. Can't wait to see him. I actually expect a little better hops for him with the longer time to get his legs ready this year from the get go. Only the shoulder was rehabbing.

Considering the health of our players, experienced gained and the new players signed we have had a massive upgrade in pretty much every area. Kobe is likely to have a very good season. little pp should keep his mouth shut and not embarrass himself that way.

PP also said this week that he'd retire of the clips won the ship this year. So I guess he plans to keep playing for awhile.

Can't wait for Metta to give him the business.

Yeah Metta looks to be in ripped shape compared to how Pierce has ever looked in his career, with Pierce now in softer and even older, chronologically and physically, condition than World Peace. That's so much fun to watch Metta wrestle him because he's stronger than Pierce.

The Clippers will no longer be punking the Lakers physically when we are healthy. Tables have been evened.... even with who they have added .... seems to me.

It's going to be a team wide mentality. I don't expect any of our guys to be shrinking violets physically this year. Any lineup we have on the floor is going to have physical players on it. Hibbert, Randle, Clarkson, even Russell included. Alpha dogs don't take any s***. Look at Curry. Not saying either he or Russell would win a fight against stronger players (yes exactly like Nick against multiple Phoenix players 2 years ago) but they sure as hell don't back down and now have a Band of Brothers on the floor with them this year. Can not wait to see the physicality we dish out and give back when it's coming our way.

Kobe Bryant included if you need him. LOL he's at the top of the list. He freaking wanted to fight Shaq and didn't give it 2 thoughts when he was pissed. Now as a Hall of Fame legend of the game you sure as hell don't f*** with him. :point:

Honestly, I think Pierce has done an awesome job dealing with that reduced role. I don't think he was ever within the realm of conversation with Kobe (outside of utterly delusional folk in Boston), but even as his minutes have dipped under 28 the past two seasons, he has played in 75 and 73 games, starting almost all of them. He's shot above his career FG%, 3pt%, and on par with his career FT%. Kobe could learn a thing or two in this regard.

Pierce is a C Bags legend, but he is no near the level of Kobe and his position on the team. Has no legitimacy to give him advices.
Even an injured Kobe will win a 1 on 1 match with him (Today).
And to me falling asleep the whole season and waking up in the playoffs is not a good job taking a reduced role. That's just not Kobe's character.

Kobe said it like 1000 time, when other players will make shots and earn his trust, he will give it back. until then he will continue to take the shots, and I think it's the right way for him to play.

I disagree. Even a broken (Boston) clock can be right sometimes - and PP is on point here.

My ideal scenario for KOBE looked a little like PP's script this last year ONLY in regards to the playoffs

Leave something in the tank for the playoffs, and make some clutch shots. Remind us all of the good times. But PP, regardless of being a HOF'er, can't sniff Kobe's sneakers and can keep his opinions to himself. He's a veteran trying to hang on. Despite the inefficiency and too many minutes, KOBE was among the leaders in scoring early in the year. PP could not have pulled that off in his dreams.

:headscratch: I don't see much that's comedy gold. Kobe had enough respect for PP that he watched film to see how a slow aging player maintained effectiveness, and they are the same age lol.

However, him making public comments about Kobe serves what purpose? Just a pubho moment to try to stay relevant. They don't think the Lakers can compete with them, so it's not jousting with a legitimate rival.

Therefore, the title, and the posts.....

"5>1" No one here doubts that.
"Pierce can't talk." That's simply asinine.
Will Kobe have a hard time taking a reduced role? Well, he has had a hard time the past three seasons, so I don't think it's crazy.

In other words, y'all, PP3 on point.
