I think I actually prefer Twitter recaps, as what can take me 5 mins to read takes Mitch an hour to say, but thanks.

Watching the full press conference and hearing just how impressed Mitch is on how much both Clarkson and Julius have worked tirelessly sense Summer League gives me goosebumps.

I agree to a certain regard, but with quotes things had be taken out of context. But Mitch does always sound pretty much the same. Hard to tell when he's impressed with somebody but I got that impression he was espcially impressed with Clarkson and Julius with how hard they have trained

Yeah, I fully expect Clarkson to have a very strong 2nd season...Randle working out with Ron, Clarkson working out all summer and even against one of the better 2 guards in Beal at one time during the season; their always looking for ways and testing themselves to improve...I'm excited about this season to see the improvements in their game.

I also like what Mitch said about the younger men being at the gym...he said he hasn't seen this much activity in a very long time at the gym. Guys started getting their work in about 8 weeks ago. Good stuff.

I'd kind of like to know where Russell fell in that off season work. Maybe he was told he just needed to work on stength and conditioning, but I would have liked to have heard he was on the court practicing as much as JC and Randal have been. I don't get that impression.

D’Angelo Russell Russell averaged 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists at Summer League, while shooting just 37.7 percent (23-of-61). However, the No. 2 overall draft pick flashed his potential in the tournament finale by racking up 21 points on a 10-of-20 clip against Utah. Like most of the Lakers, Russell has been a mainstay at the practice facility, while also training with DiFrancesco.

But I now know that Laker fans are spoiled and TMAC might have been the best ever!

He was there. The feeling I get is he's shown flashes of greatness, but is also farther out than Laker fans had hoped. He's got a long journey in front of him to get to where the Lakers need and it starts with how weak he was physically.

Roy Hibbert in a recent interview said that Russell has some sneaky athleticism though and that we'll see him dunk on someone at some point this year.

Yeah, but have you noticed mentioning Russell has been kind of an after thought after raving about Randal and Clarkson's work in the gym.

It's just that you don't hear about Russell impressing everyone in workouts in the gym, or anything he's blown people away with.

Or maybe I've just missed it, I don't know.

To be fair he's different from those two. Randle is a physical specimen and I think he's capable of making a big impact right away. We've seen Clarkson's tireless work ethic. I think it's been well documented that Russell has a long way to go with his maturity, his mentality, and frankly his spindly little body. The guy looks like a set of straws taped together. He needs a lot of work. I'm guessing he's just not been able to impose himself on NBA players every day in practice just yet. Clarkson is a beast and Julius is a monster and those guys can get to the rim when they want. I don't think Russell has that yet.

    Q. Last year Jordan really appeared to benefit from you bringing him along slowly, then letting him take a starting position mid-season. Will you try to approach things similarly with D’Angelo? How do you apply that to a guy who comes with such high expectations?

    A. I think it all depends on how D’Angelo plays in training camp. Same with Jordan. I just knew Jordan wasn’t ready, everything was 110 miles an hour. D’Angelo is the total opposite. Everything’s about 70 miles an hour. He’s much more under control than Jordan was when Jordan first started. So a lot of it’s just going to depend on how he plays in training camp. He’s been here every day the past week or so and he’s been playing great. They told me, I wasn’t here Monday, but they told me he looked really good Monday. So I’m excited about this progress as well, a lot of this is going to play out in training camp and preseason.

This is from a recent interview that Byron had with the Orange County Register.

He is only 19. I get that, I just want him to be a corner store of the franchise for a long time to come.

I just want to hear the same kind of superlatives said about him and his work ethic that we hear about the other two.

    Still, I get it... 19

Russell has a lot of work to do. I'm cautiously optimistic that he'll improve a lot this season and hopefully show why we picked him at number 2 over Okafor, which I did not understand at the time. We shall see. Not sure he's starting material at this point though. In fact, I'd rather he came off the bench for a while. Let him get his sea legs with the second unit and push the tempo. Have him come in then when Kobe and Hibbert are off the floor and let him run with Lou, Swaggy, Tarik Black/Bass/or even Randle and Upshaw.

Huertas is signed to a multi-year deal, and I'll bet that he makes the team this year, and he'll be on the team next year as well. Why? It will give Russell the time to develop his game, his body, his mental makeup, etc...I was looking up Paul George's stats just the other day, and he really didn't take off until his 3rd to 4th year in the league.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/4251/paul-George

I think Russell is going to follow a similar path quite frankly. Start slow and start to come on when he's matured a bit...

I hope he'll have the mental stability to develop and mature cause man, the regular (more vocal) fan base are gonna be drilling into him if he's not ready day one.

Yeah, I know. I'd agree with LJ, though. I'd start him coming off the bench. I think that's the best thing that can happen for him. Mitch has been lowering expectations in his rhetoric and comments about when asked about Russell from the media; I think that's a good thing. We'll just have to see how this goes...

Getting that vet PG in Huertas is really beneficial in this regard. Huertas, JC, Lou, and Kobe can run the offense while Russell is brought along slowly.

Well right, they're waiting for Paul Pierce to discuss with Kobe how many minutes and what his role needs to be.
