OK that would work for him. A little more than he got in China and he can live in L.A. and be a fan favorite, and add that edge and experience and know how to our young guys (on top of Kobe and Nash and Hibbert), plus have Nick's back next time he gets in a corner surrounded by 5 opposing players. The more I think about this the more I feel all the positive intangibles far outweigh maybe some young dude that barely outplays him. He must be getting his a** in shape if he's been scrimmaging with biting-at-the-bit-to-"go" Julius Randle. http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2014/8/1/5958905/metta-world-peace-china-contract-signing Veteran forward Metta World Peace will be taking his talents to the Chinese Basketball Association for the 2014-15 season, reports Shams Charania of RealGM. The former New York Knick has agreed to a one-year, $1.43 million deal with the Sichuan Blue Whales, making him the highest-paid import in the league next season.
So am I to assume this is kind of what we are looking at? Hibbert/Black/Sacre Randle/Bass/Kelly Kobe/Swaggy/Artest Clarkson/Williams/J. Brown Russell/Williams/Clarkson with Kelly being a healthy scratch most nights. Then the D-Fenders being Upshaw Nance A. Brown Frazier Dwight Buycks As people get hurt, those 5 guys get call ups, then next season Sacre, Kelly, Artest and maybe Kobe are gone with Upshaw, Nance and Brown taking their place on the big roster?
Isn't Huertas guaranteed for 1 year? I haven't seen confirmation, but I can't see why he'd leave his European team if he wasn't. I think his signing pushes Jabari Brown out. I also really don't believe we are going to sign Artest, but that's just me. Anthony Brown and Nance are also guaranteed contract players I believe, so they'll be with the team more often than not I'd think. Currently guaranteed to my knowledge Hibbert/Sacre Randle/Bass/Kelly/Nance Kobe/Young/A. Brown Clarkson/Williams Russell/Huertas That leaves Black, Frazier, Upshaw and Holmes fighting for spots, not to mention camp invites. That's why Sacre and Kelly should be gone yesterday, they're taking up valuable spots.
I have to assume Huertas is guaranteed. I'd be very surprised if he came to the NBA after all these years on a non-guaranteed deal. I think we're looking at a roster of: Russell/Huertas Clarkson/Williams/Jabari Bryant/Young/Anthony Brown Randle/ Bass/ Nance Jr./ Kelly Hibbert/ Black/ Sacre That has Upshaw, Holmes, and Frazier on the D-Fenders. Anthony Brown and Nance Jr will join them. Sacre and Kelly might have guaranteed deals but I wouldn't consider them locks for the team. That's where you might replace Kelly with Artest if he's willing to be a bench warmer.
It's non-guaranteed as of today. It guarantees on January 10th. However, you're right, he's not going anywhere.
We're having a hard deciding which undersized or mediocre talent to keep, so we're trying to keep them all in hopes we'll find another diamond in the rough.
I am very surprised. Still I doubt they cut him. First he fits a need and second he's an international stud. Unless he really stinks it up for some reason, he'll be part of our rotation.
He is a stud on his international and championship international competition resume. And 97.2% on his FTs ....... Are you kidding?????
I'd like to have Huertas/Russell Clarkson/Williams Kobe/Young/Metta Bass/Randle/ Hibbert/Black/Upshaw Nance and Brown will take 2 other spots and develop in the D-League. Last spot goes to the player who earns it. I don't see a fit for Kelly or Sacre on this team.
I see a fit for Sacre as long as Upshaw isn't ready. With that kid, nothing should be a given. If he's not ready, Sacre has shown the ability to fill a need for stretches with solid albeit unspecatular play. I personally like Kelly, but there's little need for him anymore. He's a good-not-great shooter who can block a couple shots, but does almost nothing else very well. Metta to me is a lot more of a 4 than a 3 these days. I wouldn't count on him being able to keep up with the SF of today for very long, but he can hold his own strength wise against just about any PF out there.
I like this squad a lot! Each night someone else can contribute more then others. and I think our bench is a contender for best bench on the league. so if our starter guys can preform, we will be a playoff team this year.
