I feel like most of the actions in Walking Dead make some sense. They HAVE to go here or they HAVE to kill this guy. In this show there's almost no justification for any actions that the dad takes, especially in episode one. "My ranting, drug addicted, step son tells me he saw someone eating someone else in a crack house. I think I'll go investigate it by myself at night with no weapons despite the fact that drug addicts are notoriously sketchy and unpredictable. Not to mention the people who might be selling those drugs to my son. Then once I find a lot of blood and vicera, I won't report it to the police. Instead I'll tell my wife about it and take her to this obviously dangerous crack house." Then later when his son admits to killing a friend of his whom he apprently likes and respects, he says "oh don't worry honey it was just self defense" instead of freaking the eff out and calling the police. Ridiculous. I mean I know the world thinks of LA as a somewhat dangerous place, but people don't generally just enter crack houses at night unarmed and then not think twice when their kids kill people. This guy is by all appearances a mild mannered divorcee who teaches high school not a cop or a soldier. How is he taking everything so calmly?
I just watched the first two episodes. Meh. Not close to the quality of the original series. Casting choices = poor Story = poor Dialogue = poor Acting = ok Biggest issue is going to be that there is no dominant character like Rick to build a series around. I'll give it 2-3 more episodes to "come alive".
When Fear was first announced, I thought it would be crap. Then the trailers and descriptions of the premise came out, and I actually got hyped up. I've been busy these past few weeks so I haven't seen the first two episodes yet. At this point, I decided I'll wait for the season to finish (IIRC, it's only 6 or 7 episodes). I'm expecting it to be slow, but I still have high hopes that it will at least be a watchable show. By being able to marathon it all at once, I think I'll enjoy it a bit more. Plus, that will be around the time the main show is about to start up again so it will whet my appetite for Season 6.
I'm going to continue watching because it take a while for writers of a show to get a feeling for it. Shows like this often turn around once they get through a few episodes.
Same. I'm not giving up, but so far I've been really disappointed despite my relatively low expectations of "hey that might be interesting!".
Do you guys see ANY of the new shows characters being capable of becoming a Rick or Daryl level character? After two episodes I find myself not caring if any of the new cast even survives.
Nope. I thought honestly that the mom was bitten in the first episode and I thought "oooooh interesting" and instead I was disappointed. I don't see much intrigue from anyone on this show. They spent a lot of time trying to develop their characters with hamfisted writing and instead of me caring, it's the exact opposite. I'm ready to see them all go.
I wouldn't count any of them out actually. I think of Maggie when we first met her in the Walking dead, and look at the bada** she is now
Even when she was new on the show though I found her a commanding character presence. Maybe that's because I find her drop dead gorgeous, but still. I find almost nothing of interest in these characters except the crackhead son. I think he's a pretty interesting case study.
The druggy son is the only one I think might have potential. The way they had him Spoiler shoot and then run over the drug dealer twice I took as hints of a future hardening of his character
Scratch that, I was thinking of Carroll. Carroll was nothing special at first, but she turned into a great character. And I agree about the crack head son. I thought he was a pretty good actor in some of those scenes, and can see him turning things around and me rooting for him.... The sister is whiny and needs to die though lol
The wife I'm not fond of, the husband has me rolling my eyes. The sister has done nothing for me as a story teller. Carroll is legit. I love her character arch though. Beaten down mentally and emotionally and physically, now she'll literally kill you if you stand in her way. Who in this show has that? No one...
But I wouldn't have thought Carroll had that either when we first met her. She seemed like a victim waiting to happen, but she developed. I don't think any of the characters in this show are so bad they can't develop into a character I like. It's all about the writing in this one to me because I don't think any of them are especially terrible actors
The problem is while Carroll developed, there were really exciting characters to follow like Rick and Shane. On this show while we wait for the next "Carroll" we're watching some boring stiffs. I agree they're not necessarily bad actors, but the writing has definitely been awful.
To be fair. The main characters on the original were sheriff's so at least they have some type of fight in them. In ftwd there teachers and students. But I knew it would start slow. I am intrigued with the series to see the world slowly fall apart into chaos. I think by the end of this season we will get a good feel who will be somewhat like a rick and or Shane character. One thing I believe with the history teacher is he was talking about survival to his class so he could have potential
Another thing that bothered me: The husband's ex-wife didn't hear about all the crazy things going on? In today's Age of Information when the death of a famous person gets spread in seconds? Or the latest video of Grumpy Cat is viewed 200,000 times in 5 minutes? She doesn't know there's some sick people in her very own city eating other people? Hm... I don't buy it.
