Oh thanks. I thought I remembered this guy from summer league. Didn't he outplay our summer league front court?
It's assumed guaranteed, but it hasn't been released officially I believe. It's hard to picture a veteran with his experience coming to the NBA on a non-guaranteed deal.
It has been released yet. I've been checking Pincus' twitter every single day to see if it's guaranteed or not, but I'm inclined to agree with you. He probably had a chance to stay where he was and get minutes and get paid, so why would he come here without a guarantee? It would make no sense to me to do something like that. That said, I could see him signing a 1 year deal for part of the Room Exception and maybe a PO included in the contract. That said, if Huerta's is productive on the court this year, I'd have no problem hanging onto him next year at all. I'm of the opinion that Russell will need at least 2 years to develop slowly and given the reigns his 3rd year, IMO. While we might see flashes in his first 2 years, his body is still underdeveloped, and he's learning what's probably the hardest position in the NBA to grasp. I'm sure having Nash/Kobe in his ear will accelerate his growth and Tim will do a great job putting some meat on his bones, but having a vet for Russell's first 2 years are so important too me.
Point Guard: D’Angelo Russell, Marcelo Huertas* Shooting Guard: Jordan Clarkson, Lou Williams, Jabari Brown*, Michael Frazier** Small Forward: Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, Anthony Brown Power Forward: Julius Randle, Brandon Bass, Ryan Kelly, Larry Nance Jr., Jonathan Holmes** Center: Roy Hibbert, Tarik Black*, Robert Sacre, Robert Upshaw** The players with an asterisk behind their name are on unguaranteed contracts. I like the way this roster has been constructed with youth/vets. It looks like it will be a very competitive training camp. Apparently, the under the radar player that we should look out for is Jonathan Holmes; I posted a tweet in the Upshaw thread. I'm also going to keep a very close eye on the J.Brown/Frazier matchup. I think J. Brown wins out, but I think that can be very competitive.
Pincus also noted that just because someone has a guaranteed contract, doesn't mean he's guaranteed to make the team. The Lakers can waive Kelly or Sacre if they want to go in another direction, they'll just have to pay the full contract that's all. I doubt very strongly Holmes makes the 15 man roster, but I think camp is going to be wide open for the bottom half of the roster. As of today I'm thinking it shakes out to start the year: Russell/Huertas Clarkson/WIlliams/Jabari Kobe/Young Randle/Bass/Metta Hibbert/Black/Upshaw Kelly/Sacre waived. Frazier, Holmes, Nance Jr., and Anthony Brown all in the D-League.
You're on the ball. Was just coming over to post this. I wanted Telfair like five years ago. He still doesn't shoot well, but I don't know if he can play the kind of pesky defense he used to.
Why not? Another solid veteran. I wanted him last year and I wanted him a little actually this year before we signed Huertas. Now? Long-shot to make the team over Huertas I think and not much room at G once Huertas takes the lead. Still he'd make a good camp body to get Russell ready.
