I believe that was sent before the deal was done or maybe even started - it all happened in 72 hours and you imagine it takes a few days to draft a proper investor update letter and this was sent at the start of the week. So it was most likely finished before they even reached out to Walter.

I think Bob Iger could be an interesting addition to the Lakers from the point of view of experience running mega corporations and empowering great people to do a good job. He could also serve as an effective front man during negotiations. Not to mention the media bias improvement we are sure to get from his standing on that side.

Negatively, he is in his mid 70s and doesn't have the stamina of a younger counterpart, doesn't have a huge amount of wealth compared to other owners.

Kushner, admittedly, I know little about. Thrive Capital isn't clear on who's invested in. I do know Princeton University's Endowment Fund has invested in it, and they do very well from a return perspective holding things long term. There's 50 bn in capital across 10 raises in there, so it'll be wide ranging in its investors.

I'm unsure of how keen they will be to do major investments into the team - we could use a whole modernisation in our staff, physical infrastructure, scouting locally and internationally, business side etc.

Myers you would think HAS to be telling them all this IF they really are intent on doing it right.

Like we were led to believe we had with Walter & Co.

Will be interesting if we go after Bob Myers. I know he is abeer's favorite as he is one of the better GM's.

Does Myers come with Jerry West? Because that’s when he was most successful

    Walter was my saving grace.

Don't care much for this new owner.

    We're probably f*****.

But at least we got Luka and a decent to good roster. But this s*** sucks.

Not gonna lie I love Ivanka Trump. I’m a big fan. But her pops as long as he’s not involved with the team then great. But I’m just a little shook that he will try to be involved some way.

but if Ivanka wants to run the business no problem. I think she’s pretty savy.

gotta think they will be regulars at games.

wouldn’t be surprised to see Jared in a box. These guys regularly talk and have business together.

rumors of Chris Paul Bob Meyers. How about just keeping Rob Pelinka. I feel like with all the turnover normal is better.

we gotta just reset and have our guys and staff that we have here now.

we just gotta face it this is a new chapter in our ball club. And it’s a new regime.

Igar is gonna help with the face and the branding. This will look like a Joe Lacob and Peter Guber. The first address to the Lakers fans will be rough with lots of boos. But those boos turn to cheers if you win.

Why would Ivanka be involved? I feel like a lot of people are missing that this is the other Kushner brother. Yes, the father started the criminal enterprise, but the brothers are not the same. The presidents’s son in law is the other one.

Abeer I know this family very well. Who they are. The brothers are very tight and do buisness together. They are in crypto buisness together also. When a family owns buildings together brothers work together. They run their families buisness together. They run businesses together. They own buildings.

so they regularly talk. This is Jared’s money to. Josh is married to supermodel Karlie Kloss. Ye was hollering about Josh because Josh invested in Skims and that was his buisness he started with Kim. He bought Josh in. I know Josh very well.

but you best believe Jared told Ivanka about this and she knows all about it. And knew all about it.

Like my boy said Trump probably said. I want in. in regards to the basketball team the Lakers. Buying them.

The fact that the name Ivanka is in a Lakers discussion is as abhorrent as it gets. Reminds me of when that greasy mouse Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez bought a minority ownership stake in the Miami Dolphins when Bill Parcells was there for a short time. I kept imagining J-Lo strutting in with her 4'11 husband trying to talk football with The Tuna. This is a nightmare that doesn't seem to stop. I can barely post anything right now. This is disgusting.

I tend to agree that the assumptions on the other Family members involvement is likely to be a bit off, but the crazy nature of everything involving this leads to a lot of questions and concerns that can’t be answered right now.

Well everyone, there is a good chance that he actually broke the laws and he knows it.

Sorry if this is too political but here are the facts:

The Official Stance and Political Nuances

Critics and sports columnists have questioned whether the Trump administration used the federal investigation as leverage to pressure Walter into a quick sale that benefited a Kushner family member. However, several factors counter this narrative: [1, 2]
    • White House Denials: The White House issued a direct statement asserting that the transaction "has nothing to do with President Trump or his administration". [1, 2]
    • Joshua Kushner's Politics: Joshua Kushner and his wife, Karlie Kloss, are long-time, prominent Democratic donors. They have publicly distanced themselves from Trump's politics, with Kloss stating she had never even met the president. [1]
    • The Whistleblower Origin: Grand jury subpoenas were issued to Walter's companies as early as February 2026, stemming strictly from an internal employee complaint regarding $16 billion in reclassified, undisclosed related-party loans. [1, 2]
Sounds to me like Kushner should be everything you Californians could want, a blue card owner, who is staying out of the political spectrum as best he can. He certainly is no love child of the political right.

Give it all some time folks, you don't really know him yet, my guess is you will eventually. Sorry if this is over the line but our discussions need to get this BS out of the way and out of the discourse. Only the facts will do that.

PS: as for Walter, he is probably guilty and knew he was screwed and is doing what he has to do.

Shock and disappointment were my first reactions. Not because Walter did anything as an owner, that was actually a very disappointing rookie year. But instability is bad. And we still have a lot of positions that aren't filled and this transition is likely going to mean they don't get filled this season and/or the few new people we have hired might not be long for their positions and that's more turnover and less continuity.

Did Lakers not get the memo that this is leaguewide vacation time?

The mansion flip 9 months after officially owning the team is really bad news for Walter. More that comes out there, worse it looks for him. Looks like a lot of phony money and A LOT of money he's going to have to strip it all down to get near that $20b unless this magically goes away. We wanted his purse for the Lakers, but seems like he didn't have nearly what we thought he did at least in a useable way.

I didn't even know there was another Kushner until this came out. Wish we were at least 6 degrees away from THAT, but here we are. He's invested in teams before with the Grizz and Heat, so there has to be some level of knowledge and it's not a completely new venture.

I definitely get it from there side of why pay the Vegas rate for a blank slate team and then you still have to go pay for and build an arena OR just go buy the biggest franchise in the entire league.

Iger. Some good and DEFINITELY some bad. Sounds like he's going to be more hands on.

My concern is the money and investing into the team. If their backers are willing to spend, that's good. But we don't know what kind the credit line they have to play with here. Won't really know until we see how they spend money and how much they throw around when they move in.

If they really want to win me over, Iger needs to use his prior Disney connections to get Kurt manning the mop bucket for the vomit cleanup on Mission: SPACE.
