Overall though, there are some really bad owners and many are very closely tied to political figures many don’t like. Players too. Not trying to sway anyone but the list of those guys who would hold up to scrutiny is very short.

I am actually optimistic about Iger as the face. Far past time we had someone with real modern media savvy in the front office.

This is what I was worried about when fans said “I hate Jeanie. She needs to sell the team”. Be carful what you wish for.

Love her or hate her, she does care about the team even if you didn’t agree with her moves and how relatively poor the Buss family is compared to other owners.

A really good breakdown by Pablo Tore of the sale and everything related to it.

you can support jeanie selling the team and still hate iger/kushner

the buss kids were terrible owners. they ran this team like they were running the hornets and not one of the biggest brands in the history of sports. cheaping out at every stop, still operating the bball side like it was the 90s, hiring their friends and family to important positions. f*** that

the problem with iger/kushner is the inexperience and their backgrounds. do they care about winning? or do they plan to squeeze the franchise for all its worth to max profit margins like dundon is doing with the blazers? no one knows how this will go, but right off the bat, there's a lot to be concerned about. those questions weren't there with walter because we already had his body of work to judge him off of

now we have a former disney CEO who made some questionable decisions there and is a very open clippers fan, and a guy with connections to the most corrupt administration in modern US history

Since you all had to go all political and bash Trump for being one of the most dispicable people on the Planet:
Remember not to long ago when his Mar-a-lago estate was raided and they found absolutely NOTHING illegal or any connections whatsoever to Russia?
Yeah, I can guarantee if that were to happen to any of your beloved DemoRats like Biden, Hunter Biden, Bill and Hillary, and Obama, NONE would come out squeaky clean.
Why was Hunter’s breifcase such a hot topic? Because it implicated him and his Father in some serious international crimes and treason.
The Clinton’s trail of “accidental deaths” all connected to people close to them would make a FBI most wanted professional hit man blush. Oh yeah, the witch known as Hillary is one of the biggest Satanists on the planet who eats babies.
Obama? I bet your precious (bought and paid for) mainstream media never informed you that when he was in office, he performed one of the biggest acts of Presidential Treason by loading C130s full of $90 Billion US Dollars and flying them straight to Iran to speed up their nuclear program.
Don’t believe me? I really don’t care because I don’t get my information from the Pupeteered Right or Left media.
I’m no Trumper, but ALL of these clowns in our government are bought and paid for and put in place by the 12 Controlling Families. They are all part of secret societies and they ALL are filthy.
Keep following their game plan by fighting over the Right vs Left.
I have removed myself from this futile act years ago.
I’m not Red, nor Blue, because I learned about who really controls things over a decade ago.
I never bring up politics here, but I’m not going to sit by and read pages of nonsense saying that the “Democrats” are the “good guys” and they had nothing to do with the current state of our once great nation.
Just go take a walk through any major city in the U.S. run by a Democrat and they all have one thing in common: massive homeless, out of control widespread drug usage, high unemployment, crazy amount and of people living off the gubmint, and over all deplorable level of respect and cleanliness. They don’t care about anyone but themselves.
    End rant.
Don’t bother responding with the proverbial, “Oh your just a Conspiracy Whack Job” until you can first tell me who developed this term and why it became popular.

take a drive through the deep south. never seen that level of extreme poverty until i drove through states like AR and MS. don't think democrats have any power in those places. homelessness and poverty is not blue or red. it's a national issue that both sides will forever talk about but never actually fix

and who said democrats are the good guys? politicians all suck. but i'm not going to sit back and pretend like the current administration is operating like any normal administration has before. the media plays a massive role in normalizing all this stuff too with their double standards

anyways, there's a reason why the politics section of this board closed years ago. if you'd like to discuss politics, i'd be more than happy to engage with you through PM

Hadn't ever listened to a full Pablo podcast. 1000 times more enjoyable than what Screamin' A Smith does, plus he's really good. Would imagine his media career blows up in some certain niche. Lots of informative value in that.

I don’t want to take it political, but I do want to comment if that’s ok.

I really admire the America of old and the great men that built the modern age like Ford and Carnegie… there’s something very empowering about the concept that with a hard days work you can go to sleep in a better standing than when you woke up, and if you repeat that enough times, you live in a country where any dream was possible.

That time is gone and from the outside looking in, your system is broken. Any political setup that involves legal bribery in the form of lobbying just leads to perverse outcomes, it hollowed out the morals and values of the country to the highest bidders. So now you have presidents using their office to build wealth instead of doing what’s right for the country and you have challengers on the other side championing radical and extreme causes that lead to awful outcomes.

I hope you guys can get back, but the lobbying needs to go.

Get back on track and on topic, all of you. This kind of discussion is not allowed on the forum and the politics section was closed for a good reason. You can see why now.

100% but what’s happening now was always the risk in wanting her to sell. We rolled the dice and might have lost. We’ll have to see

We were not winning with the old owners, that's for sure. Now... perhaps we're not winning with these new ones either, but we had to try something different, right?

tbh, i was told walter was going to come in and right the ship, and basically nothing happened in the first year, so i'm willing to wait to judge this group for a bit.

we don't know that this is a portland situation. in all likelihood, a year from now things will be relatively similar (rob and the rambii, avoiding aprons, etc.).

Walter’s tenure definitely amounted to a whole lot of nothing.

But I’m glad he exited before whatever it is that’s happening crashed down on the franchise.

And I’m still glad the team was sold. Sorry but nothing symbolizes the Jeannie tenure more for me than undercutting several family members only for the team to end up with an initial buyer who may be a total fraud and the league having to step in and help get the team to a new group of investors on the fly a couple of months before the season.

I was about to type out a lot of complaints but will use some restraint.

So No. No regret over her selling the team. I’ve had just the right amount of the Jeannie era. More than enough actually.

Break out the broom and just start over Iger.

I could just see the feds coming in and demanding a lot of these Walter deals are forfeited in some manner and the Buss family losing much of their profits to the feds. Not a lawyer and not sure how that could work but when the feds get involved it is never straight forward. This could still turn into a complete mess.

How can they even buy the Lakers. Their net worth isn't even close to 12 billion.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new ownership doesn't get approved.
