You gotta be kidding me Ben f***** Simmons. You'll be telling me how we're going to win a championship with Ben Simmons as a starter next.

I've been calling for this low risk move since I heard he was healthy.

Ben Simmons is a far better bet than Knecht or Hardy for the 15th roster spot. I believe that the 15th man on a team should be some kind of asymmetrical bet - small risk but the potential for a high reward. This is usually in the form of a young player that was undrafted or a 2nd rounder.

But I would argue that a previous elite player that needs another chance could be a good option. Take our team as an example:

    Luka / Sexton / Bronny
    Reaves / Carr / Thybulle
    Grimes / Ziaire / Vando
    Jake / Adou
    Kessler / Mamu / Looney

Our guards are sorted with Reaves, Sexton, Grimes, Carr, Bronny & Thybulle. Our wing sized players are Luka, Ziaire, Jake, Adou & Vando. For the bigs we have Kessler, Mamu & Looney. We could use another 4 that can guard either the 3 or 4 and a 5 to cover the team in case Kessler is injured. Simmons (if healthy, which is a big if) is a very good defender, rebounder and defensive playmaker - if no longer elite.

Maybe not worth the chance, but still better than Knecht & Hardy.

feelings about simmons aside (i think he's cooked), i don't want to cut or pay to get off two guys and lose the potential salary slot for any minimum at this point. even for kuminga, i don't love the general strategy. i'd rather hold on to the 10m in expiring money in case something materializes later for a better player (like maybe we stop being afraid of pj washington's contract).

i wouldn't bet on simmons beating out williams or laravia for minutes if we signed him anyway.

    But… imagine if he does.

What if I was to tell you, you could either get PJ Washington at the deadline or trade it all in for what’s inside this mystery box?

I usually agree with you on most things, but I think you’ve got a little carried away here. Simmons is an asymmetrical bet only if we assume there is still meaningful upside left. He hasn’t been an elite player for five years, missed all of last season, and even when available in 2024/25 averaged 5 points with a 13% usage rate before becoming effectively unplayable in the playoffs.

The theoretical fit—size, defense, rebounding and playmaking—sounds good, but the actual player is reluctant to attack the rim, provides zero spacing and can’t be trusted to stay healthy. I may be persuaded to give him a non-guaranteed camp invite, but there have to be better options out there. I definitely wouldn’t call him a better bet than Knecht, even though I lost my faith in him long ago. At least Knecht still has a plausible NBA skill in shooting and some developmental upside. Simmons’ upside increasingly feels like remembering who he used to be. A looong time ago.

Why don’t we just sign Terry Dehere. lol Ben Simmons. Cause nothing says shooters and floor spacing for Luka like Ben Simmons.

been watching this Sophia Cunningham s***. And I like her. I was gonna buy a jersey of hers. I like that she sticks up for Caitlin Clarke.

she’s gonna be another Draymond with her podcast. She’ll have a show on Fox News when she retires. And she’s trying to say outlandish s***. They did an article on her in ESPN and she was popping off. This is a definite distraction for the fever. Kaepernick was a distraction but this was just free speech.

sometime the league gets woke like the whole coach saying endangered specie. And Angel Reese popping off. It’s an Australian term for disputing a call in Australian. And people went crazy. But this new thing is laughable and I’m on the W’s side.

this isn’t Juwanna Man. We’re not going to have LeBron James and Kevin Durant playing in the WNBA.

this is Biological women who identify as men and are trans. Thats who they welcome in the league. I get it.

now Enes Kanter and Royce White want to put their heels on and play in the WNBA. Well Kanters been a b****.

and now White is. I think they are b****es for doing that. Slam what NBA legacy you have. So you wanna go play with the girls. What jump rope didn’t want any of that???

we always let the girls play with us. But to go play with the girls is a little zesty. And they would’ve called you a b**** in School for that. So Kanter and White are some b****es. Stop hijacking. And they clearly don’t identify as women and aren’t biological women they are just being d***s about this.

Everyone don't have to be a star. We would be using Ben way differently than the Ben of old. We are just asking 10-15 min here and there and insurance to turn to small ball if an injury happens. I think Ben would be fine on a vet min deal.
I know he is 30 now but was capable of guarding 1-5. From a bball iq standpoint I would way rather Ben than Van as a small ball big. Poor poor mans Lebron.

The asymmetrical bet is betting on Adou's development, not giving those minutes to a washed-up Ben Simmons who hasn't played meaningful basketball in 6 or 7 years, and that even if he ends up outperforming his minimum contract, would likely just bolt next year.

I'm not concerned about any of this for just that reason. Adou is going to be a handful for anyone. Between him and Cam, many problems solved.

This is the first time the Lakers won’t play on the NBA’s opening night since the 2018-19 season.
    Who cares

I'm very big on this plan, would be perfect for us and send us straight to top contention. I'm wondering if we already made a backend deal with him. Hope he remains a FA
