I mean, honestly, you can live pretty dang nice in a lot of places in the USA if you have 100K per year and you own your home. There are nice places where 300k will get you a 2000+ sqft home.

    Lol it's not possible
Cleveland is looking for options to trade Dennis Schroeder to clear space for Jonathan Kuminga and Watson
Schroeder’s salary is 14.8 million, if you subtract it, Cleveland’s salary is about 171 million, and Harden has not yet been signed (minimum 30 ), the tax threshold is 200.4 millions and both of them Kuminga and Watson want just a lot of money

nellie ball is basically the foundation for today's nba. athleticism, small ball, and threes. his teams just never had a dominant big man to have success in the playoffs as was necessary back then. he was way ahead of his time

it’s a good take but I have some real estate in this. Shaq biggest house on the block. Shaq never acted like that. How do I know. He used to live in Mulholland estates in a community with slash and Eddie Murphy and Barry Bonds. He didn’t have the biggest house on the block. They all had big houses. And Shaq was just another neighbor.

dude everybody is not Allen Iverson or Antoine Walker. I’ll let you in on something. Cause I was there. Guys like LeBron Wade would joke about Melo. We would all laugh Melo always took all his money. When he could sign the first rookie deal with Denver extension. He signed all of it. And made the most. More than LeBron. Back in our day when we were running around. Melo was making 15 million a year. That was big money then. And to everybody in the league Melo was the money man. When LeBron did his money thing in Miami giving the money back. Melo was like I would take all my money. He could’ve got a better roster and waited til free agency to go to the Knicks. Nope Melo got that security extra 30 million then demanded the trade out of Denver we all laughed.

it was a running joke in the league. Get the bag and then demand the trade. Paul George did it in OKC knowing damn well he wasn’t staying in OKC. I remember I just got to Hawaii. And Paul George resigned to stay in OKC talking about let’s bring the championship to OKC with Russell Westbrook.

Russell Westbrook was the one who signed his contract and stood on buisness. And he’s still wealthy. Generational wealth.

not all guys can clear a billion in sneakers like LeBron. Except Wemby who will clear a billion with Nike. That’s why he gave his money back.

but Dog guys are still rich with money Bibby
Kevin Martin bought an Australian basketball team.

these guys today are way smarter with their money. You don’t see them going broke. Kevin Durant has invested in so many things.

everybody isn’t Delonte West. Now you gotta understand Dwight Howard had Money stolen from him millions by a s***ty financial adviser. Tim Duncan had millions stolen from him.

but even guys like Kevin Garnett still have big money who was like the first 100 million guy 125 million.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average (mean) sales price for a home in the U.S. was $502,700 in the second quarter of 2026, while the median sales price (the midpoint of all sales) was $410,700. Real estate tracking groups like the National Association of Realtors report existing home median prices.
Maybe in the hood or way where out in the country sure. But once again that wife that was expecting a luxury life and got a kid on top of that will run him dry. So your looking at someone on the far end and not even in the middle class.

If this is the case for someone who have to retire at around 34 way before retirement age cant live the life people think they can. Are some of them stupid with money when they are young, yes. Not all. Are some of them ultra rich yes. In short it still boils down to that big payday. If your co worker making 40mil plus deals and your making 6mil on a 1 year contract its not an easy pill to swallow as you may think doing the same job.

What you're providing is anecdotal evidence, your knowledge on certain guys. The facts report that between 60-80% of athletes go broke within 10 years of retirement.

I know this area quite well, it's actually my career, we work with player managers to invest their player's money so they can achieve financial freedom.

I believe Kobe would of been a guiding force in basketball for this problem if he had survived.

I was shooting a big engagement party the year he hadn't come back yet from his injured his toe on company time so got the operation to fix it on company time. Up on that street and turned out it was just one or two houses below him and he showed up with his wife. At one point they both were sitting on this half wall inside and with my camera hanging in my hand at my side I approached him just wanting to say Hi and ask how the toe was doing. Got a really dirty look I guess because of the camera, but then he mumbled something in his Shaq voice saying it was doing good or coming along.

Shaq is n example of the higher end when it comes to wealth. had many deals, investments outside his NBA $$ people pay him to show up. He also continue working as his TNT gig. For the others on the lower end they cannot move like Shaq. Magic Johnson was another that made way more outside his NBA $$. If we a talking about regular players that made less, investments did not pan out, played less years, and had to live the nba lifestyle thats not optional and did not land that gig after NBA.

Westbrook is also on the upper end. More talking the regular players not the supermax guys. The second round pick, they guy that comes in for 20 minutes, plays for maybe 10 years. His situation is no where close to Shaq or Westbrook. People still view him as an nba player and view him as someone with unlimited $$ when its not the case. This player have a short window and any investment deals he makes cant afford for it not to pan out. He also just cant go live anywhere for security reasons. So dont think you can just show back up in the hood in a cheap home and not be a target.

Magic always was well off. Talking about basketball the Lakers he got 25 years 25 million contract which back then was like Jaylon Brown getting 250 million. It was like the max contract.

then Jerry set him up with real estate after he retired Real estate opportunities. Magic Johnson theaters. Jerry had the real estate in Culver City. That’s where he would put the Lakers players like Nick Van Excel and Eddie Jones.

Magic had Fridays in Inglewood. But s*** Magic got Laker ownership when he retired. Laker stock.

Yall talk about Kobe. Kobe had the vision. Got James Harden to invest his money in Body Armor. So James made a smart investment deal.

Then you look at Steve Ballmer and Kawhi Leonard. Showing him buisness Kawhi saw him as a co-owner even playing. Dennis and him were looking at this positioning themselves after he retired. He didn’t want to do work.

so players do make smart moves.

Kuminga should’ve never turned that money down. To argue we’ll he wanted to get 100 million instead of 50 million makes no sense. He was never a 100 million dollar player.

you take the 50 million and you make it work.

the 125 million Antwan Walker blew through was him being an idiot.

but it happens bad investments child support. And dumb purchases.

But s*** if you’re smart you can keep it. 50 million buy a house. Buy another house put money in it and then sale it. That’s a real estate move. Bank the rest. Don’t even touch it. Live in a nice mansion or condo.

Some local guys still have money because they were smart back in the day Keshawn Johnson bought up South Central and Crenshaw when nobody was doing that. Keshawn was buying up shopping Centers. It’s smart. People just pay you rent.

so there’s ways you can do it.

I can see that. Would’ve rather we convinced Washington to part with one of the many wings they have on their roster instead of a 6’3 non defensive guard.

yeah, i (and i think svtzr) mentioned coulibaly prior to the offseason. having just drafted dybantsa and with george clearly ahead of him in the rotation at wing already (plus washington having recently drafted tre johnson and bub carrington), he's getting squeezed there a bit and heading into RFA next year. i'd have given up assets on top of ayton (i guess just the swap and second we had) to get coulibably instead of hardy. and i'd have taken whitmore over hardy, too. my guess is we probably tried both, and this was the best we could do.

I can see us not getting Coulibaly. He can be a real stand out defender. I was surprised we couldn’t get Whitmore. I was even more surprised we couldn’t get Champagnie. He would have been a good pickup instead of Hardy, he rebounds and defends well. He had a down year shooting wise but the quality of shots would go up next to Luka.

Hardy to me was a strange add.
