I don't really get it. I'm not against it, I just don't really get it. We have no backup PG, we're stuck with Sacre if something happens to Hibbert or Black (or maybe even before that because Byron and Mitch keep saying Black is a PF), but now we have 5 or 6 PF's. Half the team are PF's. I understand going young, but you can also sign players that have played an NBA game before that are young too. That's 5 rookies on this roster if we're counting Randle, which I am. I hope a trade is brewing to move Kelly and or Sacre, maybe someone else to clear some room and get some more talent on the roster.

He's not much of a 3 guy at this point.

At 6-9, 240 with high body fat I don't think he can cut it at SF. he's versatile and can play there or defend there in a pinch because he had to at Texas because of a similar log jam. But if he's to succeed in the NBA, I think it'll be at the PF position.

No, he played a lot there in college, though. I would imagine he'd be good for certain stretches, but yeah, I wouldn't have him there full time. The signing along w/the draft pick of Nance indicates a certain direction and a certain style we want too implement this year and in the future. I love the idea of players being able to switch guarding multiple positions, closing out quickly, playing interior defense, etc...the guys (besides Russell) besides Russell we drafted/acquired all have smaller floors, but I think will be more NBA ready by the start of the season.

As Pincus noted 2 weeks ago, we're in the process of restructuring, tweaking, and working out players. I would imagine this will go on until the trade deadline in order to improve this team. As it stands right now, Kelly doesn't make any sense at all. Sacre; while I do like him can be waived without significant financial ramifications if we find a better back-up.

Brown, Nance, Holmes, Randle, Bass>Wes/Young Boozer/Davis (liked Davis)/Hill. We're a lot more versatile, and I think once we start getting more chemistry and guys start getting used to the speed, grind, and speed of the NBA, I think we'll be a lot more productive. Do we still have some holes? Absolutely. However, we were a 21-win team last year and trying to cover all the gaping holes was going to be a challenging task heading into the summer.

    I still think he's more of a power forward. Anyways, there is this article that compares Holmes to Draymond Green. I'll post that when I find it. I know you mentioned he never shot over 33%; I immediately thought of Green. Green (so far early in his career) is a 32% 3 point shooter. He shot 26% in the playoffsl during this last championship w/Golden State. He just does so many other things well; defending multiple positions, rebounding, etc;

With less than one month left until the NBA draft, one of the most fun topics being whispered about by teams: Who is going to be the Draymond Green from the 2015 draft? An experienced, smart player who can a) shoot the 3, b) defend bigs in the post, c) defend guards on the perimeter, d) pass well, e) play SF and PF and maybe even some center.

Green was a 2nd round steal in the 2012 NBA draft – seniors rarely go in the lottery, and Green was a tweener who most teams thought would be overmatched against power forwards and too slow to defend small forwards – and he’s about to get paid this offseason, either by the Warriors or someone else.

Nice ^^^ thanks. Going to have to go find all his clips now.

Wonder why we passed him over as well, taking Brown in the 2nd round for SF?

Lakers were probably higher on Brown. I'm starting to like what we're developing here, though. This season has me more interested and excited than last year...

The Lakers on Thursday signed forward Jonathan Holmes to a two-year deal.

Holmes, a 6-foot-9 senior from Texas, went undrafted in June. Through five appearances with the Boston C Bags' summer-league squad in Las Vegas, he averaged 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 55.6% from the field.

In his fourth season with the Longhorns, Holmes averaged 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds, dipping from his junior year's 12.8 and 7.2, respectively.

Though the Lakers did not release contract terms, Holmes likely signed for a partially guaranteed $1.4 million, earning $525,093 in the first year if he sticks for the season.

With the signing, the team's roster increases to the regular-season maximum of 15 players. The Lakers are expected to bring between 17 and 20 players to training camp in late September.

Holmes can play either forward position, although the Lakers are already quite crowded at the four with Julius Randle, Brandon Bass, Ryan Kelly, Larry Nance Jr. and Tarik Black.

The Lakers may start Kobe Bryant at small forward, backed up by Nick Young and rookie Anthony Brown. Both Bryant and Young are traditionally shooting guards, though both have played at the three throughout their career.

It seems like we're building a farm system which is great, but does it work that way?...

I thought if they're signed to deals they're part of our 15 man roster even if we send them to the D-League?

I thought all they had to do was be invited to camp and they're eligible for the Defenders without being counted on our 15-man roster...

Maybe a way to keep him on the D-Fenders till we straighten out our roster. Since players don't make much in the d-league, maybe Mitch said we don't have roster space, but we like you and I'll give you $100k if you come here. If it works out, you'll end up on the Lakers. If not, that's more than you would've made by strictly playing with the d-league and the C Bags weren't giving you any guaranteed money, either.

Yeah but we're giving these guys contracts though. I thought if they signed legit deals they were on the 15 man roster.

Most of the money isn't guaranteed. It's a sign of good faith and a way to buy them a spot on the D-Fenders...at least that's what I think Mitch is doing. If we get Holmes on the D-Fenders and cut him from our official roster, he'll make $120k-$125k this year vs. the $20k-$25k he would've made by just signing with the D-Fenders out right.
