so you guarantee he’ll improve as a Laker when pure shooters after wearing purple and gold in the past lose 8-10 percentage points? Gotcha, looking forward to this confidence after a few games
Yes I'm quite confident he'll shoot over career his 36.6%. And you think he'll shoot 26.6% to 28.6%? Lol That's funny, wanna bet?
He'll be around 38%. That's where he was Year 1, 2 and 4. In Year 3 he shot 36.5% for 45 games and then in 6 games after being traded he shot 15% which is understandable - small sample size, new team, injured etc. Last year he had a bad shooting year, but that was on really bad looks and he was still at 40% from catch and shoot opportunities. He just didn't have any good looks for a year, that should improve here in leaps and bounds. Guy is a good player, I wanted him at the end of 2024/2025. I thought if he put the offence 22/5/5 on 47/37/75 in his half season with Philly and the defense he played in New York, he could break out into a 20/5/5 third option. Well he has that opportunity here now. Let's see.
This is a long time bet lol let’s limit the duration to the next season. I was wrong, Kareemthegreat33 was right, there IS a Laker shooter curse. I’ll ask sirron to make the sigs of the winner. Good luck
agree. a year ago several of us (me included) wanted him at 20per. his numbers and health have been inconsistent, but he's got two-way ability and positional size and athleticism. offensively, he can handle, pass, and shoot. he could end up being the same dude he's been, and mle money wouldn't be too far out of line. he could also level up like he has in stretches and look like a bargain.
Let’s not compare him to Smart, it’s just better that way. Super pumped for Grimes. I’m maybe his biggest fan on here. He was known as a defensive stopper in his time at the Knicks, he hasn’t been slotted as a POA since then - so I’m optimistic that he can take that role back up. Offensively this is a pretty perfect setup. He shoots 40% from catch and shoot opportunities - which he will get a ton of, he can attack a close out and dunk ferociously, he can also handle and create his own shot. I do see him being used more off ball here however. If he puts both sides together for the first time in his career, he is going to be severely underpaid and is just the type of value 3rd/4th starter you want. Guys a baller.
did you not read that deep dive you posted by the same guy who did the mamu/rui comp? my sense was that he felt it was a net positive swap, even not considering the giant age gap. oh, ok.
Yeah of course I read it. I don't think it effectively captured Smart's defensive playmaking, that guy can guard 1-5 pretty much and take on any assignment. I also think Smart is as good a creator/ball handler as Grimes - in that they're both just ok. Grimes certainly is a better driver and shooter. But we've done an offence for defence swap - I just also like that Grimes can also defend pretty well too, another two way player is welcome.
