If I'm a wing and still a FA, I gotta see this Lakers roster and think I can easily outplay Jake and Vando + 2 rookies and be the 1st wing off the bench. That's a 20mpg with a few starts and potential to even steal one of the starting spots. And get at least the MLE next year.

This looks like the most interesting East I can remember.

 

We are about 9 million under the apron, counting the two possible vet minimum contracts to make the roster 15. So technically. We could make a trade like this and stay under the apron. Some team that wants to save money. We also still have the 33 2nd and 32 swap available. Gafford fits in the price range, but don't the Mavs want to do that. Potentially PJ if we ad salary, Luke Vando or Ayton. Others too, would have to check.

 

Given the market and our need for a wing, I’d even go so far as to promising Kuminga a starting spot if he came for the minimum on a prove it deal.

I like Mamu off the bench anyways, I think the starting lineup would benefit from more athleticism.

But my bet would be Ziaire Williams is our next minimum pickup to fill out the roster.

I’m still calling we should start Carr and Adou. Their profiles are better than Grimes and Mamu for what we need and the team actually flows a lot better.

Luka (on ball playmaker) / Sexton (microwave scorer)
Reaves (off ball playmaker) / Grimes (tertiary playmaker)
Carr (shooter/slasher/POA defender) / Jake (glue guy)
Adou (wing defender/lob threat) / Mamu (tough floor spacing big)
Kessler (rim protector/lob threat) / Ayton (scorer and rebounder)

Yes we may be in the play in this year. But next year if they develop, we could be a top 4 team.

Best case scenario is if ONE of them pops and beats out Jake or Vando, which isn't a high bar.

I think if we can find anybody to fill that role, that would balance out the roster a lot more; as it stands, I don't like it.

We're probably still a second round team, but it is what it is.

On a larger note, when you've committed to Austin/Luka for the future, you have to assemble the team a very specific way. We all know this; I think Kessler fits that bill, but the rest of the pieces don't do that defensively.

I do see the vision for the offense, though. Just go get me a wing that can play 15-20 mins a night, please.

Luka and Reaves are such high end pick and roll practitioners; I think the offense will be fine. I'll say a top 10 offense at that. Our defense was top 20 last year, and I think we'd be very fortunate to get that to the top 15-20 this year.
