Austin Reaves Discussion: How Much Is He Worth?

Gotta love using small sample size data for a guy coming back from injury, forced to be the no. 1 option and only player who can create off the dribble without our true no.1 and top 3 player in the league. Incredibly productive use of water there. Highly recommend paying for more of that.

this is why i was arguing with these folks weeks ago: to prepare them emotionally for this very day.

reaves was going to get a max or close to it. he got the max. i actually considered it a partial win that it wasn't for the 5 years. i know svtzr is convinced that he will end up getting super-maxed, but i'm not as sure, nor do i feel like borrowing that trouble. three years is a long time. a lot can happen before then.

 

He's been pretty underperforming in the PO's for a couple of seasons.

Funny, when he's performing well, he's healthy. When he struggles, he suddenly isn't healthy? I don't get it.

Toe against Minnesota, oblique, etc, etc. What if he just got outplayed and targeted defensively.

Instead of golfing, he should be hitting the weight room. MF dude out here, "I'm not about the money, and if we just win 1 rings..." GTFOH.

I still haven't heard a legitimate answer of what people were expecting?

Reaves re-signs for 4/120, LeBron re-signs for 2/70. Then what?

WHO do the Lakers add magically now to make the team better? Kessler? Lu Dort? Robinson? Like.....who did you guys want them to sign that is now harder to do or you think won't come at all because of what we signed Reaves to? We are supposed to show that we care about winning, so show me what the winning formula for this off-season was with Reaves re-signing for SO MUCH LESS and LeBron just getting about what he was getting before?

Like, did everyone want Reaves to sign to a better deal JUST to make it easier to trade him if he sucks? Why sign him at all? Also, if he DOES suck, why would anyone want to trade for him just because he has a friendlier deal?

Again, does everyone remember who WE are? Since when does the League help us? Frick....I AM STILL BITTER ABOUT THE VETO TRADE. I will go to my grave with that frustration.

Either way, NOTHING has changed about the League's opinion of us between then and now. So, here we are. We signed him. I think we need to make peace with that and swallow this bitter pill and move on.

This is the f****** Lakers, and I'm supposed to be happy about signing Reaves to a 4 year MAX deal when he's been shi**** the bed in the PO's. F that. Magic, Karreem, Worthy, West, Kobe, Shaq, LBJ, and I'm supposed to get excited we signed this non-PO performer to a 4 year max deal that is a questionable fit with Luka and just get over it? Naw, f*** that.

I swear if he is out for a series of games or struggles, I'm going to criticize the **** out of him.

 

Okay, now I really do want to know if I am saying something that is not translating properly to everyone collectively. I don't want people to fake a smile over this. Again, you guys are upset....go be. You think this is dumb, go for it. You want to say this was bad, I am all for that. I get it.

But what. could. have. been. done? Not sign him? Sign him for cheap just to sleep better at night? What did people want? What do people think is going to happen now? Are we NOT signing someone? Are we not trading for someone? Does signing him to this much INSTANTLY mean we are mediocre, just cuz? Like, I want to know THAT part. Not who is bitter and why? Not, "Why can't I hate this?", because you can. I never said LOVE IT. I am just trying to understand the angry people as to WHY they are angry? Also I am trying to understand the angry people and WHY they don't fully see that Luka asked for this. LeBron, I have to believe mostly, did too. So now we are here.

With great money comes great responsibility. No more of that “Aww shucks, I’m just a poor hillbilly from Arkansas” jazz he’s been able to get away with. You’re a big dog now. For over 40 million he better be putting up 23/5/5 in at least 80% of our games because that’s what max contract players do.

 

Every time I see a complain about AR's contract and I see the word 'max', I immediately stop taking it serious. Like it's a 70M contract like other people maxes. It just shows how uninformed these people are.
He's getting the same salary of Ja, Garland and Lamelo.

I actually hate this max terminology. For example, we offered 25% of the cap space, which was the "minimum max" value we could offer AR. Just that wording makes me pull my hair. I do you have a "minimum" "max"???

Actually now that I think about and how social media works, it's probably on purpose to drive engagement as people complain about maxes that aren't maxes.

Btw, this is the second max AR got from us. He was also maxed in the last contract
