claxton is very light in the trunk - he makes Chet seems like Arnold in Terminator it ain't a great loss

In fact if you look at his advanced metric espn net points hate him for the last 2 years. Rather have Sharp tbh

claxton's soft, low bball iq, bad rebounder and defender. he'd get eaten alive out west

    glad he's off the table

poor randle. wolves clearly just wanted him out and now he's on a tanking team

ok, so my first thought was the same as svtzr: wow, a really good center target for us went for nothing. we could have done that!

    not great.

    HOWEVA...

i share pioneer's concerns about claxton, and all my hopes to get him involved moving some salary and not absorbing him.

the other thing is that the two teams with space to sign reaves just used big chunks of it. no max offer threat from bkn for reaves. they could still dump more salary and cobble it together, but it's less scary than just being able to throw it out there.

    minny's obviously up to something.

the pool of candidates to help denver out of their salary jam is shrinking.

though i'd say the cost to absorb salary was pretty low. bkn took randle to move up 5 spots in the draft? i mean, i guess they probably like randle, but...that was a lotta scratch. randle's got a 38m player option next year.

This tells me one of two things.

We don’t plan on being an under the cap team so don’t want to take salary dumps like Claxton and/or the rumours about us being involved in a 4 way trade for Giannis are real and the #25 is being saved for Isaiah Stewart and dumping Vando.

Don’t agree at all. Claxton has two elite skills, high flying lob threat and the best 1-5 switchable center on defense. He has two lesser skills, as a passing hub at center and a weakside shot blocker.

The reason why lots of centers get played off the floor is teams hunt them in coverage. You can’t do that with Claxton. Only big guys can overpower him - that’s Jokic, Embiid and Sengun. He can hold his own defending the Wemby, Chet, KAT perimeter guys.

When the defense changes in the playoffs, Claxton is a guy who can stay on the court with Luka

What does that say to Ant man????

Arod they never pay anybody. Always shedding salary. Towns for Randle. And now Randle for peanuts.

Does Minnesota try to get Durant??? Is this a Gianiss Jaylon Brown thing? or just a salary dump?

    Ja Morant to Minnesota?

Well Adams in Houston is a better look than Hayes IMO. Adams and Eason for Rui in a S&T?

Hayes made a noticeable improvement overall with his time in the weight room and 10-15lbs of muscle added. For whatever it’s worth I could see him hitting the weights further this summer for maybe 5-8 more. His frame can handle it. I don’t agree he plays no defense or doesn’t protect the rim at all. He gets some blocks and alters shots, can defend some in space not bad for a 7 footer with his lateral, and certainly has the hops and experience with lobs.

Based off what exactly? Granted he is an average rebounder, but he spends most of his time defending the perimeter.

When looking at Claxton, I think you have to compare him to a new archetype like Peyton Watson. They defend 3-5 and block shots. Watson has a shot and a handle, but Claxton is more bouncy and defends the interior better. So from that prism, his 7-9 rebounds is good for that archetype.

The other stuff about being soft, a bad defender and low iq is frankly silly - I assume you probably just don’t like his size and don’t watch him often.

We let a good one slip out of our hands in my opinion.

The Nets and Bulls just lowered their cap space going into free agency. I am wondering if this means the Lakers can re-sign Reaves at a lower salary, because the absolute most he can get is $36 mil/season from Brooklyn.

If the Lakers offered a 5 year deal starting at $36mil/season, it becomes reasonable and minimize the risks of overpaying for Reaves.

Chicago is not prohibited from trading Claxton, but I wonder if he's in their long term plans. Hard to know what they are doing over there.

But money drying up goes in our favor on contracts for sure.
