Clowney fits the bill from the Nets as someone who is miscast in a much bigger role, if he can be the weak side blocker he has shown flashes off, finish plays and shoot the 3 only on good shots, he could be a really good buy low candidate.

Spencer Jones is another that’s waiting to break out.

Then you have other players teams could throw away like Claxton or Gordon/Braun/Dort

Heck even Sabonis.

Lots of ways to build a team.

 

Clowney would be awesome. Not sure he is a buy low, I think Brooklyn likes him and probably asks for 2 firsts. He has the ideal archetype of a 4 in a contender. I think he will be a hot commodity in years to come if he continues to develop

But yeah lots of ways. I'd really explore dumps of Braun, Dort and alike.

Very few teams can take salary dumps and some teams really need to do them. They also may know okc/Denver don't want to deal with us, so Chicago/Brooklyn may ask for too much and we may do it without picks

 

i'm not sure clowney is available even for three firsts, tbh. i wanted to draft him, btw (check the receipts...him and podz...we got jhs).

but i and others have mentioned john collins as an example of a non-center lob threat who could slot in here. i actually would love to get several clippers role players (dunn, collins, djj) as they all fit really next to luka, imo.

i'm still wondering if there might be a way to sneak in on the back end. chicago and bkn may end up renting out space, and we might be able to capitalize from teams that didn't want to help us.

so, you operate over the cap, but end up getting say, dort, for a single first and vando (chicago maybe already got two seconds to eat dort in the first place?). chicago ends up getting a 1st and 2 2nds to eat two years of sub-mle vando. not terrible. we could add knecht if they were interested (and their roster is like, empty, so he might blow up there!).

same deal with a christian braun or cam johnson, btw. all these guys can be traded by themselves with no restrictions after being salary dumped or traded. as milwaukee learned painfully, you can't control what happens once you move a valuable piece--they may end up exactly where you didn't want them anyway.

 

Nets fans aren’t impressed by Clowney, for every potential flash he shows, he has 5x the amount of games where he is lazy, a chucker, blows up the offense and doesn’t defend.

I think he’d be available because they’re going to have to make some tough decisions to resign him but he hasn’t shown much to warrant a large contract.
