marks on reaves: i've said a max declining deal seemed fair to both sides. this doesn't get him down to the 35m that people want going forward, but i think it gets close enough.
I'm good with those numbers. A declining deal is definitely the best option for AR as it doesn't impact our flexibility now and helps us in the future. While Smart, Bron, Rui or Kennard we are better having the opposite, as the number that matters the most is the one this year as it impacts our cap space. Good to know we have a NASA engineer helping out
If you're going to attempt a trade, you should stay below the first apron. So having less on Reaves wage could help out this way as well. As an example: we have 33.2 in tradable assets - NSJ (2.5), Knecht (4.2), Jake (6), Ayton (8.1 - if he opts in) and Vando (12.4). You could put together two trades Knecht + Vando (16.6) and Ayton, Jake & NSJ (16.6) and bring back up to an extra 7.6m in each trade - so two trades at 24.2m. Having Reaves at a lower wage could help - regardless if you're building a team above or below the apron.
I'm sure the FO wouldn't mind going above the apron if we are a surefire contender. Unfortunately we aren't there yet.
There are certain rules where teams above the apron can’t take back more salary and/or players etc. also use the full MLE caps you at the first apron too. I think next year we could blow past the apron if convince a few teams to take less this coming season.
i think you mean players, and most definitely. anyone to whom we have any sort of extra rights to could see a deferred payday. i just don't think reaves is the right candidate for it. vets who have made more money and might want to preserve rights strategically make more sense to me than a guy heading into likely the only big UFA payday of his career. but lebron, smart, rui, kennard, maybe even hayes (though he's another case i'm not as sure about)--they should consider the potential benefits of what could happen should they prove to be a valuable part of a contender next year when we may not be as hemmed in by aprons.
$38 million? Better hope he keeps balling out and we can trade that contract down the line if need be...
As VLF said in the LG thread, you can't lose him because we're asset poor, if he's at $40 million, it wouldn't surprise me. Surprised me that Brooklyn is a team that would be a threat for him.
doesn't surprise me. bkn's been trying to draft a player as good as him for years. they'd gladly take one into space, even on an overpay.
he definitely needs to get a new contract see he can't even afford to get a good haircut and his girlfriend probably ordered a cake on BNPL six month plan
He got the birthday discount at Great Clips, probably on top of the $9.99 mail flyer. Hell, they might have paid him for the cut when it was all said and done.
