Game Debrief: What Went Right And What Went Wrong?

Tough to watch but that’s mainly because I think the guys are playing hard and JJ is coaching well. We just don’t have enough and naturally that starts with Luka being out. I really feel like we could’ve made this interesting with him. As it stands we have to play perfect hoops just to stay within 5 points of these guys.

All of that is before factoring in the refs who have legit been absolutely awful. Those calls make things even more deflating for our guys given how hard they were playing.

This group is giving it all they’ve got but we need a couple more guys.

 

i meant legit 8-man playoff rotation.

it's mostly this. the thunder players 4-10 are basically all better than our players after the top 3.

 

Either one of those guys makes us better. I'm at the point right now, that I'd like to move up if possible in the draft, or try to snag a high 2nd rd pick, and bring in a couple of kids. Then just pursue a couple of mid priced vets. I like Coby White, I like Mitchell Robinson...they aren't the only guys out there, but they are both in reason as far as salary demands. I really don't believe this squad is that far off.

Just feel the Lakers and Rob have hit ona lot of this year. Ayton and Hayes aren't hartendtein and holmgren but that matchup isn't a hole the Lakers can't overcome either.

Meanwhile you got Jake s***ting his pants every possession and Kennard getting picked on defense. Just need 1 wing and an additional guard with size who can play 2 ways and I think OKC even without Luka would be ina lot of trouble this series. I think if we were going to get a game it would've been today, but OKC's 3rd Q onslaught withered, and I don't believe this Laker team thinks it can beat OKC w/o Luka.

But I gotta say: OKC's celebrations have made me a huge Spurs fan suddenly.

 

It seems they can just pull away pretty much anytime they want to.
I think they haven't played their A-game yet because they haven't been pushed to and don't see this match up as close as some people think.
I invite all to see the WCF because I think it will be visible what other level OKC has.

In any case, kudos to our team for the effort. Never felt embarrassed and have been engaged in the games until mid 4th Q. That's positive. Would be nice to get one but seems difficult. OKC may sweep in the Finals too if they get there so I think they might want to end this quickly

 

Just can’t agree with this. Chet is having his best playoff series. AJ is playing like an all star. The whole bench is going off. We’ve basically made it a plan to hold SGA down but everyone else is having a great series.

I don’t think OKC is that far ahead of us. We’ve got the better top end players when we’re healthy imo, but they’ve got depth on us and come in waves. I do think if Luka was here playing 40 mins we’d make it a 7 game series.

 

We need more quality players in the rotation for depth. 3 or 4. Thiero is one; I believe we can come up with 2 or 3 more this offseason.

The biggest FAIL of our FO over the last decade has been not putting enough emphasis on player development.

 

I get your point, but you can’t have your cake and eat it too. We got AD and had to trade slot of picks for him and then trade other picks to compete with him.

A decade ago we were selecting Ingram in the draft. So I assume you probably meet the last 4-5 years and not 10. Because that would take into consideration players like Randle, Hart, Clarkson, Nancd, Kuzma, Ingram, Lonzo, Zubac, Dlo, Mo Wagner, Svi and Thomas Bryant. All of who have had pretty great careers.

Our first real pick since that batch was Max Christie who I thought we developed really well. Reaves was also developed by us but not as a draft pick and Goodwin can be taken into this as well. The jury is out on Knecht, but the only bad development and pick was JHS. That guy just didn’t have anything tangible. We’ll see how we develop Bronny and Adou but so far it’s looking promising.

 

They simply are the better team.

They have the best bench in the NBA. You place Mitchell and Williams(big boy) on our team, instead of our stiffs and we win this series.
