Here's a thought for the offseason.

This team would be pretty damn good..if you added Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves!!

Agreed. If he doesn't take a leap in 2 years I see that changing, but for now he's not going anywhere.

I don’t think they should trade Thompson, but it’s their fans all over reddit throwing the baby out with the bath water and anything else not bolted down.

    They’re in full melt down.

His inability to score away from the paint is hurting Houston right now.If he had a 3point shot The Rockets may very well be leading this series.Super talented player but he really needs to be able to pull defenders away from the paint

That boy doesn't need a jumper, he needs a PG, because that's not what he is. You can't keep him out of the paint right now, wait until his handle improves a bit. 3 pt shooting gets overrated IMO.

if you're a perimeter player that's going to be the offensive focal point, yes, you need a three point shot in the modern nba. the only exception is giannis, whom i would argue isn't a perimeter player, really. thompson is like a small giannis, which is great, but he can't just overpower people in the paint.

he needs to get with kawhi and figure out how he turned shooting from a weakness into a strength. that is, if kawhi speaks to humans.

At the moment teams will sag off him and dare him to shoot clogging the paint. As we have seen in this series teams will double off of him because they don’t respect his shot which is causing havoc for the play maker.
Like I said super talented but that area of his game is his Achilles

Well they don't have a facilitator, and that’s not his role, but I could live with it, like I can live with Austin's defensive shortcomings.

The kid was 1st team All Defense last season. At 23 his ceiling is higher IMO. He's elevated his game to his strengths, in this series too. Can't ask for much more than that.

He's got to be able to hit at least a set 3 like Rondo land J Kidd got good at. Otherwise If he's off ball his man will just sag and the only set you can run then is him as a screener and that is conditional on the ball handler being a good pull up 3 guys.

He's great I wouldn't trade him either but it's a big hole on his game. His fr stroke looks fine though? Don't know why he can even a hit a 20 footer

You would have to surround him with 4 shooters at all times. So you would have to go get a stretch 5 to go along with Luka/Reaves/Lebron. It makes it hard to fit a player like that.

Houston doesn't surround him with 4 shooters at all times. That's like saying that, you have to surround Austin, with 4 defensive players at all times. I think you guys get carried away with the concepts sometimes. Ballers are just ballers, they aren't to be pegged into certain boxes.

This kid guards 1-4, is shooting 50% from the field, avg 20 pts 8 rebs 7 assets 2 stls and a little over 1 blk per game in this series.

And we are really talking about his 3 point shot, as being detrimental to the idea of pairing him with Luka?

No Thompson would be great with Luka. Ideally, you just can't really put him out there with an Ayton, Hayes, or Vando. Which is why teams like Milwaukee went out of their way to get players like Turner and Portis to put with Giannis. Also a reason why Lakers couldn't comply with AD'S request to play the 4.

A Myles Turner would be a great fit on Houston. Sangun is probably on the way out. FVV/KD/Smith/Turner would be great spacing for Thompson.

Meh.. depends on who else is on the floor. Thompson,Vando, Smart, Lebron, Ayton ..I can work with that for long stretches.

I got Luka, Luke, Rui, Hayes and Thiero up next. Yeah let's go!!
