I think it's a combo of Austin only playing 22 games so far this season and them not wanting to give a 6 seed 3 All Stars. The first one is what it is. As for the second one, I've always hated the idea that the number of All-Stars should correlate with your record. I feel like it's entirely possible to have multiple players performing at extremely high level individually, but the team is just okay because of supporting cast or fit or whatever. Conversely, I hate when they try to find a 3rd All-Star on a team just because they're a high seed.

spurs were bellyaching already about only having wemby as an allstar. whatevs. austin could use the continued chip on the shoulder.

Dearon Fox does have a much better defensive rating than Austin Reaves which might have something to do with it too.

Shouldn’t. Defense is last thing on anyone’s mind at this game.

Why? It's a collection of the best players and defense is 50% of the game.

They traditionally never seem to play much. Unless the new format has brought some semblance of real competition back in. Didn’t watch last year. Isn’t that why all the changes … trying to get the players to care again?

comes down to the purpose of the selection/game. if it's just "who's the best?" then defensive rating matters. if it's "who's most fun to watch?", i'm not sure it does.

on the open market, i think fox and reaves fetch basically the same amount of interest, so here it's just that SA is obviously better than us, and we already have two allstars. the reason reaves isn't an allstar at this point is because lebron is. and that's fine. reaves will have a few more cracks at it when he's clearly carrying the load in the near future.

I wouldn’t doubt that the missed 22 games “could” have factored in as well.

yeah, but i think fox missed a big chunk, too, right?

anyway, i think reaves is nearly on par with fox and booker, but i get why the league would pick those guys over him for an AS game.

Quite frankly, he's more deserving this year than LBJ, IMO.

    And more deserving of Fox.

Tis strange. I think he's overrated by Lakers fans, but he's been really good this season. Sucks.

All Star game is a joke and hasn’t been good since the early 2000s.
That being said, Austin is twice the player on offense as Fox.
Yes, Fox can play decent defense.

Yes, defense is 50% of the game. For an allstar game, it is 0%. It's been a s*** show for the last 10+ years.

If defense mattered, Luka and Jokic wouldn't be the Top 2 vote getters.

Austin has played 28 out of 54 games and Fox has played 45 out of 54. Big difference and I think it's fair that Austin misses out, injuries are what they are.

So, is it’s more based on a participation award than who’s the actual best players?
    Got it.
The NBA needs to realize they wouldn’t be around if it weren’t for the Lakers and C-Bags lead by Magic and Bird who literally saved the League.
Silver is a freakish alien b*tch who is controlled by the owners.
    No spine.
    No integrity.
    No balls.
Member of the Unsullied minus the bravery and skills.

Availability is super important. Otherwise what stops us from giving All Star honours to any guy who balls out for 20 games?

Just because we’re all lakers homers doesn’t mean we lose objectivity. I wouldn’t want someone as all star based on a quarter of the season. They’ve got play 2/3rds at an all star level in my opinion. Fair is fair.

    I disagree.
Austin put up Historically GREAT numbers before he went down.
I’m not being a Laker Homer when the facts are there.
He was literally playing at a near MVP level for an extended period of time.
It’s not like he only did it for a five game stretch- it lasted for 23 games.
Anyway, just view it as more obvious anti Laker bias.
I’m not trying to convince you.
I’m just stating how I feel about it.
There is a ton of grey area that shifts from season to season regarding these NBA “awards,” and that’s why they never hold much value when comparing “player A” to “player B.”
Y’all have already heard me rant several times about how the MVP “award” is more of a popularity contest than based on facts since Kobe was by far the best player on the planet for 8 seasons in a row, while only being acknowledged once for being so.
