Any chance Atlanta buys out Hield?

would he be worth it as a backup?

Low key Kennard isn't that bad at defense. -0.3 career DBPM, and 0.0 this year fwiw.

wiggins might be nice too right now, but if Miami still thinks they can get Giannis, I wonder if Wiggins would be a part of that

Nope, nope, nope! We need to stay far away from any perimeter player from Miami.

Irwin was saying last night we might try to help facilitate a Giannis trade to Miami and that would look like us getting Wiggins for Rui, the 1st and salary filler. I doubt it happens, but the idea was more interesting to me that it had previously been with the West looking a little bit more open right now.

Have to disagree on this. We traded a guy who is terrible on offense and defense for a guy who is terrible on defense but one of the best shooters in the league (let's ignore the history of shooters going to LA to die for a moment). This doesn't propel us to contender status, but we desperately needed a reliable shooter at the guard position off the bench. Hard to get true 2-way guys with our lack of assets, so let's at least find specialists that can actually do their jobs.

Would love to follow this up with a Dalton+Kleber for Thybuille swap. I might be willing to include a 2028 pick swap for optics since that shouldn't amount to anything. That gets us a wing defender while freeing up another roster spot and cash.

I'm very open to moving Rui for Wiggins, but I'm just not sure it should include our 1st. If we're helping them get off Wiggins' $30M salary for next year and facilitating them to get Giannis, I think that might be overpaying. Not 100% against, but worried it's a bit steep.

Agreed. If they NEED us to get Giannis, they better toss us something else if we're going to be giving up a pick.

No, we shouldn't have to trade a 1sts in that scenario.

I don’t think it happens, and I agree it’s steep. He’s just the only realistic option I see at the 3 for what we have to offer, and Miami is a smart franchise and they know this. They’d probably argue they’re giving us an extra year of a player type we need, but Wiggins has a player option so that’s not guaranteed either. I would say it’s an even traded, they get help to get Giannis maybe and a couple decent size expiring contracts if Maxi is also included for salary matching, so I can see why the FO wouldn’t do it as well.

I’m a fan of this sort of move as well. If he’s just going to expire and we don’t want him back, get anything you can for him, recoup some assets

Pretty much that. Don't let the guy walk and not have picks available in potential trades. My god, that would be horrible. He's either in your future plans or you trade him, and I am absolutely positive Rui has value.

As long as Kennard's shooting holds then this is a good pick up IMO.

No indication he wants out, but if he's not in the future plans it makes more sense to get something for him now rather than walking for nothing in free agency.
