Not bad at all. Kennard obviously won't help with the perimeter defense issue, but he's a legitimately great shooter. Been at least 43% from three the last five years.

    Hip Hip Hooray!
Small moves like this are all I’m looking for.
We don’t need “a big splash.”

Doesn’t help defense or athleticism, but at least Luka in theory has someone to pass to that will make open threes now, he’s shooting almost 50% on threes this year. Also never have to watch Gabe get cardio for us again.

He’s basically a replacement for Dalton, but with the added bonus that he can shoot.
I’m sure he’s at least a few IQ points smarter as well.

Idk man its alright I guess.
    • Kennard is a solid back up SG and lights out shooter. Upgrade over Knecht.
    • We also reduce salary by 500k, so now 1.4 million under the apron
But, it stings a little to loose that 2nd, but i guess it's a fair deal.

Oh wow, this is a massive upgrade off the bench for us. He is definitely not going to improve our defense, but in terms of shooting he is a truly elite threat in this league. He is not just a great catch-and-shoot player either, he can knock down tough threes off the dribble and does it at nearly a 50 percent rate, which is pretty wild. Does it solve our defensive issues? No. However, it raises our shooting and overall offensive output off the bench so much that we should notice the impact right away. He is still young, very smart, and can also function as an above-average secondary playmaker. I honestly did not see this move coming, but it is a big upgrade over Gabe for us, honestly a huge one.

That's an understatement, because one guy has an elite IQ and the other has the physical tools, but doesn't know where to stand on the court.

I was surprised to see us use the 2nd, but I guess Gabe was just that negative of an asset. I wonder if this leaves us ready to sign a buyout player as well now.

...just getting Gabe off the court is a win.

Will reserve any further judgements until I see Kennard make shots for us.

Kind of a basic move. We had a log jam of smallish, mid to bad shooting point guards with Smart, Vincent, Bronny, and Smith. We lacked some depth at shooting guard. We had Reaves, Knecht, and Bufkin. But we had to go with small back courts a lot. So this trade helps that.

Also kind of makes room for Lonzo.

Yeah, we had to use the 2nd, there was no way around it. It's worth it though, you get the best long range shooter in the league off the bench; it will make a difference.

good news: gabe gone. that was a key goal for the deadline, imo. just to keep jj from being able to play him.

bad news: kennard is almost as bad and doesn't solve any problems for us, imo.

What do you mean "almost as bad"? You get an 8/2/2 guy off the bench who will sometimes take, like, 7-8 threes a game and hit half of them. That is not bad when you need some offense off the bench. It does not solve our defensive issues, agreed, but it does not make him a bad player.

Lonzo is done, like his body is done, we can’t afford to use a roster spot on a player like that. Realistically he should retire, but if not maybe he goes to Charlotte to play with his brother. I think the move I’d like to see us make is Wiggins, if we aren’t going to keep Rui send him out with the pick for Wiggins, we get our last starter who can still play at 30 about to be 31.
