So cap space and draft picks is our pitch..what is Minnesota offering? If Minnesota lands Giannis without giving up McDaniels and Reid our window is closed for the next 3 seasons.

I think the implication of what Stein is saying is that Giannis is going to be kind of pissed if this drags into the summer, at which point he might be more forceful in steering himself to a particular team (us). If Giannis tells the Bucks he's not signing the extension, is declining his PO to become a free agent in 2027 and will sign here, the Bucks would kind of have to listen to an offer even if it didn't include Reaves. I'm highly skeptical Giannis ever goes that nuclear with it, but there is a path I guess.

I'd need to sit down and figure out exactly what it looks like if we just let everyone expire and absorb Giannis into cap space. How much space, if any, is left and what other tools would we have available (MLE, BAE, trade exceptions).

Giannis would be LeBron’s salary slot, and Austin would be making like 3 times as much. It’s the same thing. That wasn’t clear? They can’t build around Luka and Bron at what Giannis would be with Bron while Reaves is making 12 mil, how could they if Reaves makes 35? Nobody left anything out.

For those interested in the dollars and cents of a Giannis push...

Yossi (one of the cap gurus on Twitter) was on Irwin's pod
    .
Salary wise, we could do Vando + picks and the rest could be absorbed into space.

yeah, i'm not going to waste the energy, but if we did nothing at the deadline and everyone picked up their options, we'd have:

luka/reaves/ayton/smart/laravia/knecht/bronny/vando under contract. add hayes's cap hold (bc i assume want to keep him, and it would be low) and the additional cash for reaves's, and then two more roster charges, and my guess is you have something like 40-45 million in space. you're basically looking at trading vando and bronny for giannis, giving the bucks all draft capital, and they get the world's largest TPE. after that, we'd have the room exception plus vet mins (maybe BAE, depending on reaves's and hayes's final contract numbers).

    smart/room exception?/bufkin?
    reaves/knecht
    luka/thiero
    giannis/laravia
    ayton/hayes

it's pretty iffy. three maxes is tough, even when one isn't the big kind.

anyway, it would be attractive to milwaukee, imo, simply because of the huge immediate savings.

if i were them, i'd prefer a bluechip prospect, but minny and gs aren't offering that, either.

I might be the biggest Homer here behind LT..but damn...Edwards and Giannis..that s*** is scary. They would be younger than Lebron/AD in the chip season.

i'd have to see who went out and what other moves they made. those are two good centerpieces, but neither is a table setter. they'd almost wish they had mike conley back lol.

Lol..nah two top 5 dudes? I'm sure they will attract a few vet minimum ring chasers. Id rather see the Greek Freak in Miami or Golden State.

I’m honestly not really assuming anything right now. I see the pluses and minuses of moving now verses waiting until summer. That comment was more just adding to what slick was saying.

it ain’t over until Thursday. The front office has time and we’ll see what they come up with.

This team can compete this year with the right combo of guys IMO. Teams are clearing willing to make moves so I think we will be in the mix.

I’m hoping Giannis gets traded as well. We can’t resist the chance to add a star no matter how remote that chance is. A trade would save us from ourselves and hopefully pivot things toward building a complete roster

if we got Giannis for Vanderbilt and our picks, there might be riots in the streets.

I'm split on what I would like to happen...

On one hand, I just want us to move on from the Giannis stuff

On the other hand....if he does not get traded...then we have the opportunity to absorb him into cap space this summer and giving the Bucks some very valuable future first round picks. Like others have said...I think Giannis would actually prefer to go to the Lakers if it gets to the summer as he'd just slot into LeBron's slot and he pairs with two guys that fit alongside him in Reaves/Luka. I'm sure we'll get some vet min ring chasers to join too....and it's the perfect set up for Walter's time as a Lakers owner to pair two top 5 players together on the same team...Luka/Giannis will be the latest iteration of a dynamic duo that will win a chip with the Lakers.

I also think if we give them 3 unprotected first round picks and 3 pick swaps...that's a pretty good haul for the Bucks.

So we are going to absorb Giannis 52M by cap space and then pay Austin 40M?
