trying to distance himself from the 2023 draft is sort of too on the nose for me.

but again, why not just clean jeanie out, too? if i'm running an organization, and there's in-fighting that's causing issues, i probably just chuck them all out.

and to reiterate what elgin said earlier...jhs was just a bad draft pick. it happens. to everyone. a lot. so weird that it's become some sort of fulcrum upon which all judgments balance.

Sounds like a lot of sour grapes to me. He can’t throw people under the bus fast enough on his way out.

"When Mark Walter's Guggenheim group purchased the Dodgers in 2012, they initially maintained much of the existing baseball operations leadership to ensure stability. However, significant changes to the scouting and front office staff were implemented later, specifically after the 2014 season, as the new ownership built out its own structure.
Initially, General Manager Ned Colletti and the existing staff, including scouting director Logan White, remained in their positions. Sweeping changes occurred after the 2014 season when:
    • Andrew Friedman was hired as the President of Baseball Operations.
    • Farhan Zaidi was named the new General Manager.
    • Billy Gasparino replaced Logan White as the new Scouting Director.
    • Gabe Kaplan replaced De Jon Watson as the new Farm Director.
Under the new leadership structure established by Walter's ownership group, the Dodgers subsequently expanded their front office to include one of the largest analytical departments and one of the largest scouting staffs in baseball, a key part of their strategy to become a perennial contender. The ownership group is known for a "hands-off" management style, delegating day-to-day operations to the baseball executives they hired."

It would actually be a nice way to bookend the Buss tenure with a Championship this season.
I’m certain Jeanie will be shown the door this summer.

She's expected to remain the governor for the next 5 years.

That could change, but I doubt it, IMO.

Unreal that a billion dollar organization was run like this - the head of scouting only communication with head of operations was him telling who they were drafting??

Ned Colletti was a damn good GM too. He drafted Kershaw, Will Smith, Corey Seager, signed Puig, Urias and Justin Turner. He also had the best record in the National League as a GM during his 9 year run with 783 wins.

For those who aren't Dodger fans, I'm telling you right now, you are going to be in for a treat. You will see state of the art organization without the meddling and some of the most down to earth billionaires you will ever see. The Lakers are going to be the standard again and it's going to be like that as long as the Guggenheim's own the Lakers.

I can definitely see this happening in the off season

Thank you for what you have done, but it's time to take a backseat so I can build my management structure

had never seen that. i guess my difficulty buying this is that if jhs was truly rob's boy, wouldn't he have kept him on as a developmental project?

anyway, word was also that the scouting team wanted kobe bufkin that year, so...it was just a bad year for us in this regard.

While it is definitely him throwing shots and not holding back on his way out the door, my main takeaways are more about the dysfunction behind the scenes than individual picks. The GM not being in active communication with the assistant GM and it sounds like at least some of the scouting department during draft time is at best weird and simply no way for a front office to operate IMO.

And my gripe here is not personal toward anyone in particular. If Rob is the last guy standing but puts together a good staff under him that get the job done (including a “dirty work” guy so he can keep his own hands clean on some things) then great. I get that the criticism of him and Jeannie comes across personal at times but it really isn’t (at least from me).

The disfunctional aspects of our front office just have to go. It will be better for everyone in the long term.

Agree. Seems like a poorly run front office, with Rob solely in power, and that this was another Rob power play, abetted by Jeanie. I wrote this in the Jesse Buss thread, perhaps it should have gone here, but this doesn't seem to be a Walter move. It doesn't make any sense as a Walter move, and there are indications behind the scenes that it was a Jeanie and Rob move. Which probably means worse scouting and worse front office moves, until Walter does install his own management team, but that appears to be 1-3 years away.

He needs to bring in his guys this offseason and not wait. Why waste years of Luka?

Well both brothers voted against the sale of the team, so this parting of ways was to be expected eventually.

Yeah I can see this. And you know, so be it. I don't knock Rob for being ambitious and wanting to be the head guy so long as he installs a good team around himself that can get things done.

I think this all ends with completely new people across the organization until they can completely get the new guys in place but I feel like this is probably something Walter saw coming given he is a successful guy and is close with Magic who definitely gave him an earful. I expect them to already have some scouting people in mind and to get that pulled together here sooner rather than later.

I'll also repeat my comment from another thread on Jesse taking shots now. It's extremely common for people to be much more candid after leaving a job than they were while on it for obvious reasons. The Buss brothers are definitely upset, but I don't think it means what they are saying isn't true and should be discounted.
