The team sucked, and they'll probably be smacked up against Minnesota.

    Better win against the Kings.

Yep, and that's the way it should be, IMO.

With respect to Wemby, he's going to be great, but it doesn't mean we should stop competing, and I don't think anybody is suggesting that here on this site.

I vividly remember LBJ, Wade, & Bosh or more recently, KD, Steph, Klay, etc. There were other teams during that time that won a ring. We have a top 5 player and we do the best to surround him with the best talent it will play out how it plays out.

Unfortunately, if there's no LBJ, the quality of his play dips, or he gets injured again, we're screwed. All of those are real possibilities. Just is what it is.

And those scenarios are more likely given his age and injury history since his Lakers tenure.

This team is in dire need of a 2 way player, though. A young and healthy one at that and Rob could still trade for one.

Unless we're depending on rookie like Theiro who just had knee issues....

young and healthy two-way players aren't just sitting out there waiting to be traded for, imo. you pretty much have to develop them or overpay for them with assets we don't have. mikal bridges took 5 firsts. this is a guy who's a third option only on a good day, offensively, and is actually almost 30.

so yeah, odds are pretty similar in terms of thiero developing or us being able to trade--both slim.

I know; we don't have assets. we can't trade for anybody, yada, yada, yada.

I've heard all the same s*** from Rob before; well, time's up next year when we have the cap space and a prime Luka. No more bull**** excuses.

I'll tell you this: if you're telling new ownership this, they aren't going to put up with it. Salary cap and all. They'll start firing people.

    IMO>

Definitely agree that we can't just mail things in because of Wemby. We can and should still compete. I think he will be the best in the league very soon, but that doesn't mean his team can't be beaten.

i mean, they may start firing people, but that won't suddenly make 7 first rounders appear in our war chest. the new folks will face some similar challenges. i think people are really underselling how hard it is to deal with a hofer winding down their career. lebron's situation just hangs over everything all the time. trust me, sam presti doesn't want to deal with such things.

If we fight for the play-in or end up 6th, Rob is gone :)

possibly. it would also be decent timing as the old guard can tell lebron they did all they can when the new folks come in with a harder line.

it's a question of whether rob has laid out an exit strategy that the new owners believe in, imo. as i said above, this is a very difficult situation to navigate. we already did one of the hardest parts by not giving lebron an extension/PO, but there's still more stuff to deal with. rob may end up taking the fall for lebron's decline and accompanying petulance, and tbh, that may be ok. he kind of rode in with lebron, and maybe he should ride out with him.

If they start firing people, that means we’re getting a better process in place — and more importantly, better results from a team with championship aspirations. I’m all for it. Sure, we won’t suddenly have seven first-rounders, but you know what will come with the new ownership group? The best and brightest minds to evaluate what we have and determine within 2–3 years whether it’s truly working.

The Lakers and LeBron have an exit coming next year, and hopefully we’ll either move on from the LBJ era or bring him back on a reduced salary. Either way, I expect the infrastructure to improve immediately — in fact, it already has with the upgraded locker rooms.

    As always, go Lakers!!!

Yeah. I feel like it’s just a good time to go ahead and reset things from top to bottom. Get a real infrastructure in place that’s based on who is the best candidate and not Laker ties and go from there.

My WMC is ESPN. We’ve always known it’s crap, but after watching NBC and Amazon’s coverage this week, it’s even more apparent how bad it’s been.
