mvp is "meaningless" in that its meaning shifts, and it's not really meant to capture who's necessarily the best individual player--but that's how people read it.

i wonder why it wasn't called most outstanding player at its inception. it still probably wouldn't quite get it right, but that's the way people interpret the award in a broad sense, right?

anyway, if luka couldn't get one a couple years ago, i don't think he can get one unless his team finishes ahead of jokic's. and still, the laker tax in the press--who votes on this--is very, very real.

Jokic should of had 5 in a row, except for voter fatigue that gave one to Embiid and one to SGA.

    Luka is monster

Skinny, Men's Health Magazine Cover Luka is one of the scariest things a defense can go up against. Unfortunately this is going to have to be the norm most nights while Bron is out for is to compete in games.

Luka is a wizard with the ball. I just hope he isn't wasted like mid 2000s Kobe

not to spam all the threads, but luka looking like this is actually why we don't panic and add aging players with big salaries right now. this version of luka can take less-talented-but-nicely-fitting parts to the conference finals and finals.

he's 26. we may end up having to punt this year in order to ensure we don't waste him like mid-2000s kobe. if we use all our trade assets on a win-now complement to the lebron/luka team, we could end up with no way to improve the team for the next couple of years, in the immediate aftermath of le-exit.

I think there's ways to do both.

You don't unload everything for a Wiggins. But if you trade what you have available for someone in their mid - late 20s on a friendly contract, they're easily re-tradeable as you start to get more picks back in your stable.

If you have a top 5 player, never punt. Not ever. But don't necessarily empty the clip either.

If we don't flip expiring and DK (that's the package i shop... include a pick swap if needed) for a top 7-8 man in a playoff rotation, then I will be disappointed in Rob. I don't think we're going to be able to get a starter like we need, but can definitely give Luka a you're not wasting your time this year upgrade to the roster who will be an important building block moving forward or retains value to go after the bigger fish down the road.

Umm groin injuries suck and they linger. Look at happened with Lebron last year. He went from looking like all NBA first team candidate to a guy a who couldn't hit a 3

    Hope it's nothing

i think there are ways, but that's quite a needle to thread.

how long is this list? a top-8 quality player, below thirty, on a good contract, that their team is willing to give up for...not that.

so, like, josh green is 26, makes 13 per on a contract that goes just one more year. you maayyyy be able to get him for knecht/kleber.

but does that move the needle? enough to cut into flexibility next summer, where that 13 million might be spent on someone in whom you have more interest? is he better than gabe or smart? if not, does it do much for us?

not even if, say, luka's groin injury and lebron's back injury lead us to open the season 10-20 or something (with one out, we're about a .500 team, with both out, we're favored against basically nobody)? i think at that point, any trade i consider is fully future-focused, nothing present. luka, but not lebron, would fully understand, too.

same package as above might get thybulle later in the season. is that enough? it would be similar to the DFS add last year.

and i can't say i'll be disappointed or not until i see who gets moved for what, just like every year. we don't know how many sellers there will be and what the prices are.

i know that we dodged the jerami grant bullet (imagine if we got a lot of people's wish at this time last year!), and the wiggins asking price is similarly outrageous right now. this is the best team we could have fielded given how the summer shook out (lopez and capela going for over tpmle, etc.). lebron's out, so we don't look great.

better hope that groin injury doesn't linger or else this season will be over pretty soon

there's just no way he can carry the team like he did last night on a consistent basis and stay healthy at the same time. other guys are going to need to step up or pelinka needs to explore trade options

I’m genuinely worried what carrying this roster is going to do to him physically. I know he’s young, but he’s not the most durable guy

What was its “meaning” when Kobe was the best player on the planet for NINE straight seasons?

I'm carefully watching Indy, Chicago, Portland and Sac Town. All four are disasters and all four have players that fit that bill. Problem with the latter two is that they don't like us. Rob already floated the test balloon when he got the Jazz unknowingly roped into the Luka deal. For either of those teams, he'd probably first need to seek out a 3rd team who deals with the Kings or Blazers regularly or at least has a working relationship with either of those teams and then us be the flip team for them.
    -Thybulle + Rupert
    - Ellis + Carter
    - Ayo + Okoro, (Jalen Smith would fit too)
Pacers: whichever wing isn't in their future plans, they are in a punt year. I try to get Wallace as the throw in, really like his upside too.

Nets are another one with a couple interesting guys.

That was a HUGE trade for us. Changed our entire defensive identity. So yes, if a trade of that ilk is available you pull that trigger in a heart beat. That squad pre trade was looking very dangerous, it was all coming to an end regardless because of AD's injuries but that's off topic.
