I'm guessing that Golden State, is close resolving their Kuminga situation.

That team is going to be so old. I’m always amazed that teams build a roster full of a bunch of old geezers (like we did in 2022 and a lesser extent 2013). They needed to get younger and more athletic, but they just got older by signing one of the oldest guys in the league.

I sometimes wonder if teams do this as they're adding a second coach and basically a snitch in the locker room with these "wily vets".
You can't tell me Haslem wasn't deep in Spoelstra's DM's every time something went down for most of the end of his career lol

(may not be applicable with as an old as f*** GS but I always thought this what I would do if I was a HC lol)

Get younger how? Trade Steph? Butler is a better player than Klay, and Horford was just a FA signing, it's not like they traded for him. Horford didn't play "old" last season.

horford was great last year. he fits great into what gs does. but he's very old, and a team for whom he was VERY important didn't really fight to keep him (they had their other reasons, of course).

it sounds exactly like...the lakers signing marc gasol in 2021.

if it works out, it will be great. the likelihood of it working out is low. and gs is supplementing a pretty old core with more vets. this hasn't been a winning formula.

i guess they have podz, moody, and kuminga, but the latter is half way out the door and has a coach who thinks he can't play in their system (he's right, imo, and it will be a neat trick for kerr to make that work should he be forced into it).

so anyway, i'm a big horford fan. i just think it's pretty dangerous to rely on him at this stage in his career, and gs needs him to be the guy from last year, not a glorified assistant coach.

It was the 200m in luxury taxes they had to pay and Tatum blowing out an achilles that meant Porzingis and Horford were out the door.

I feel like Horford's skillset was too early for his time.

If he had came into the league now, his career would turn out so different in a good way.

Just an all-around very good player who doesn't make many mistakes and has developed an elite three point shot. He reminds me of a poor man Tim Duncan.

Unfortunately, too old to have the impact that the Warriors might be expecting from him. Wouldn't have minded him being a backup to Ayton.

How much was the salary on horford's new deal? he's basically a franchise icon over there. just dumping zinger and not matching kornet's offer saved a TON of money. but they went fully center-less rather than pay a low cost for a fan favorite. they're well below the second apron (actually right at first, i think).

anyway, we'll see, but i think he was available because he maybe should have retired.

then again, i thought he was going to be finished last year or the year before, and he keeps going at basically the same pace. at some point, you will lose this particular bet, though.

I bet he wanted a better chance to win and knew that without Tatum, this would be nearly impossible. The Dubbs don’t have much of a chance either, but at least Curry is healthy. Or, maybe he was done with living in a miserable climate?
As for the FO of the Dubbs, they know(or should know) that the Curry era of Championships is over and are just milking ticket sales and fan interest until he hangs it up. We know what the end of a dynasty looks like, but I don’t blame the Dubbs for at least making some moves to shuffle the deck.

Tangential to the Horford conversation - I'm very interested to see what happens with the C Bags over the next year. There's already video of Tatum shooting in an empty gym. I still think they probably hold him out the whole season even if he could play in March.

But it's not like as soon as he comes back, they're back to contention level. Their bigs are Queta, Boucher, Tillman and Luka Garza. I'm keeping an eye on them as a Kessler suitor next summer. White is 31 and I don't know if Simons is in their long-term plans. I would think there will be some urgency to get back into contention given where Tatum and Brown are in their careers and the state of the East.

yeah, i read this morning that the decision to leave was horford's, so maybe they WERE offering him something?

anyway, yes, horford's a very good fit in gs. but he's still 39. on the rare occasions that curry/butler/green/horford are all available, gs will be very good.

yeah, the real question is how they re-stack after just divesting from zinger, holiday, and horford. horford was always going to be an unrecoverable loss (and was on a bargain contract, to boot). they lost the 60 million+ in salary slots when zinger and holiday left, too.

i know i'm probably in the minority, but even if tatum returns 100%, i was actually never impressed with tatum/brown as a 1-2 punch. to get a ring, they needed some outstanding guys 3-6. and three of them are gone with no obvious successors in sight, and the assets they got in return won't be able to replenish even two of them, imo. i think they're cooked, personally. but maybe that's just my wishful thinking.

I think C Bags would have kept their roster in-tact if they at least made the Finals. Tough to justify the luxury tax payment when Tatum is injured and you likely are punting the season.

Losing Horford, Porzingis, and Holiday for Simons is such a huge downgrade. With Tatum likely gone at least half the season, you've lost 4 of your top 6 players.

Not a huge fan of Brown. He's way overpaid, IMO. If Reaves gets $30 million, I don't understand how Brown is worth $25 million more than him.

White and Prichard are very good players but White's getting up there in age so time is ticking on his value.

I'd be surprised if Boston makes it out of the second round even with a healthy Tatum.

Ok a****** - you wouldn't do with the Lakers of all teams (the team with all time goggles legends Kareem and Worthy) but know you do it. Big fan of AD but this is frustrating that he chooses to do it as he hits the tail end of his prime
