That’s a team you could conceivably keep together for a few years. We’d need a 3&D wing to round out the starting unit and a backup PG and big. But that’s super doable and I think that can compete as well.

The Kings are being cheap and they don’t want to pay Monk. They’d rather sign Westbrook for 1 season.

 

the more i think about it, the more it seems like media fabrication in a dull period. i'm sure they've offered him in trades because they're way out of contention and he's maxed out as a prospect or whatever. but i don't think they're "trying to dump" him. they're probably hoping to get a picks or prospects for him--and i do think knecht qualifies here. the problem for me is that i'm not sure we can afford to move gabe AND kleber + knecht, and using rui instead is kind of robbing peter to pay paul.

that's why my first inclination was to ask about ellis or carter.

in any case, i can see opportunities.

Ellis earns 2.3m

Rui earns 18.3m
Knecht earns 4m

The trade works and if we send a 1st, I’d try to sell it as Rui is the best player in the trade, and they get Knecht that’s a developing 1st round pick and another 1st for a 6th man and a good 3&D player.

I think this would also allow us to sign another minimum player if someone shakes free that we want.

 

This is a really solid idea. Worse case from Kings is they get out of having to pay Monk long term, although Rui would be a good pick up for them. Lakers get one of the most under rated 3 and D players in the NBA in Ellis. Monk provides bench scoring. But Lakers also might not want to pay Monk past 2027 and would have to also give Ellis a deal after the season. But I think they should do this, if available. Thierro might be better as the long term 4, and Rui and Ayton both love the mid-range, so they're is some over lap there. Ellis is a better combination of 3 and D than anyone else on our roster. He would likely start and defend POA. Luka is able to play some 4 on offense, LA ravia is a 4, and we still have Vando, who is a 4. So it's not like wr completely demolish our depth at the 4. Ellis is the real get in this deal. We have to absorb Monk, who is arguably over paid. But he would gladly take the energy scorer off the bench role, which is something that Rui might have some hesitation on. Also DK needs a fresh start.

I dug deeper on this to see if a 2-way or actual roster spot and it's neither, just an exhibit 10 type deal for camp he can hope to build on likely G-League afterwards.

 

not that we don't all know this, but it's good to periodically remind ourselves that "sources within the organization" can mean lots of things and most of them are not what you're hoping.

 

There's a few guys on Youtube that just flat out make stuff up to get clicks and make it sound like some idea they are speculating and making up is actually in process and it's total crap. Shame on those guys who are so desperate for a following that they have to make up stuff.

The offseason is long. Sometimes there just isn't much to talk about. Sorry you want to build your channel and are desperate for followers, but lying about content isn't the way to do it. It's a great way to get blocked and dismissed as worth the time to ever pay attention to again.

i feel like the character questions with this guy pre-dated the latest stuff, so it's tough to navigate.

imo, det should just sign him to a one-year at the max they can give him (that 7 per). they know him and like him, and he'll retain bird rights there should he have another solid year and hope to cash in as he might have this summer before the allegations.

the money elsewhere has mostly dried up, and he needs to prove himself, fair or not (again, i don't presume to know the truth here, but there's all kinds of smoke around this guy for a while, iirc).
