And the replays of what his foot did and (hit on another player?) looked completely innocuous watching it multiple times. Probably a sneaky dirty Boston play. :giggle:

We got us some DAWGS on perimeter D yet all this angst. By mid season we should be cooking with health. Smart, Vando, LaRavia, Thiero by mid season (regular season), Gabe, Bronny by mid season (regular season) with Smart effect. Possible improvements to come with trade(s) or buy out. And Plenty of offense to sprinkle in with the more non offensive types.

not sure i agree with that coach that he'll be a ballhandler in the pick and roll in an nba game.

do like the floater work. one thing i'd like to see from vando is a better floater game followed up by serious offensive board work. any time he's taking the shot, the defender will likely be late getting to him. if he takes that floater with his feet close to the ground, he has the advantage to go chase his own miss. at the very least, this forces his guy or another to have to expend energy and attention to the box out instead of starting a break on the miss.

his three motion looks a little more compact than i remember, but it's still a whole different thing having to make those shots on sporadic touches in between all the other stuff we need him doing.

like that he's opening up on the screens (peeve of mine that nba guys don't do this), but they need to have him practicing making contact there. i don't think it carries significant injury risk, and the feeling is totally different when a guy has just run into you.

I can’t quite put my hand on it, but the training footage felt odd. It’s like they condensed a whole summer of training different things into a one hour session.

And I had the feeling that Vando is constantly trying to look cool for the camera, slow walks in between reps, posture, hands on knees, turning away and walking in circles.

Lots of what they’re working on will be useful for Vando, but he needs to get hundreds of repetitions of it over and over again so it just becomes second nature. We know he can do this, but is he going to remember the details with his split step, bump or spin through during a game in April, May or June after doing 10 reps of it in summer.

Rooting for this guy to develop offensively. Hope they’re doing the right deliberate practice to get there.

Seems like these types of videos might be requested by the private coaches to showcase the “name” players they’re working with. “Maybe” it’s not really Vando’s thing to be out there in a 20 minute piece focused on him training. No idea really.

video definitely seemed more like self-promotion from the coach moreso than from vando (though it also served that purpose). if it was just vando, we'd have seen a lot less of the instruction/explanation, imo.

i think the main thing the offseason skills videos always drive home for me is how different an empty gym is from an nba game. not that i really needed a reminder given that i hit like 60% of my threes practice but like 30% in games, lol.

Actually I finally watched the full video just now and come away thinking there’s no way Vando can’t be better this year for us on the offensive end simply from as he has said having his first full off season healthy in years to work. Instead of the slog back bit by bit rehabbing from injuries and surgical procedures just to get to this point during seasons already underway. Go Vando!!!

i actually think vando has shown some pretty decent passing/playmaking skills. it's just the shooting and finishing that are really problematic. the finishing is perplexing, but i think he just doesn't have great eye-hand coordination or something. that said, again, he handles ok for a few dribbles and even can make some passes. it's just the fine-motor touch, i guess.

the more i think about him, the more he reminds me of rodman, tbh. poor man's rodman, but rodman.
