Most lower level basketball systems are based on motion offenses of some flavor. They aren't running pick and roll in high schools and the AAU leagues that I'm aware of all use some form of base offense that is rooted in a motion philosophy. A mix of a platform of a structured motion offense is a fantastic place to build teamwork. Adding iso sets out of that and Pick and Roll is a logical situational step. A good coach (Phil for example) bends/breaks the "rules" of these structured offenses to match the situation. The most maddening part of the final 3 years or so of the Phil 2.0 run for us was the 8 minute of the 4th quarter Kobe Iso play that we ran to finish every game.

My preference would be to mold Russell similar to Parker rather than Paul, D-Will, Curry etc. While all fantastic players and talents those systems are so predicated on their success that it's hard to overcome poor games/series by those players.

gotcha. the youngsters are clearly struggling with this offense through 3 games. they look totally lost. given this, would you dial back the complexity and then slowly build, or would you continue to let them learn at this pace trial by fire? if so, why?

Yeah... they seem lost and what they are executing it's mechanical and slow/telegraphed.

Keep in mind that we have 3 guys out there that are used to being the focus of their teams in the past. To play with equals comes with time.

I don't see anything I didn't expect for the most part. I wasn't expecting Curry and Karl Malone to suddenly be reincarnated in Vegas.

Would it be safe to assume that we are playing today at 5:30PM west coast and TWSN will be carrying the game? The grid for TWSN doesn't show it today, but then the schedule was not known until the last of the 1st 3 games were played. Of course NBA TV shows it at 8:30PM eastern time against Dallas. But NBA TV blocks out local games. What say you? Sports Net today at 5:30PM Pacific?

Yeah, it'll be on TWC. Suprisingly, the Knicks game wasn't blacked out the other day though.

I think if you make all of your young talent look like complete and utter crap during Summer League, there is no danger of other teams signing them away. You can then stash them in DLeague and let them dominate. (Jabari Brown)

Just a theory. Ok, I'm trying to cover for a pathetic set of performances, but at least it sounds plausible. Right? Anyone?

I apologize if this is not the correct place (didn't see a thread in game day), but I just had to write somewhere how incredibly annoying are the announcers in this game against Dallas.

Well, I am disappointed. Yes, it's just summer league but we could have won that game. No defense...

At least Randle played much better, Russ shot badly but had good numbers, Jabari scored well... we still have no real offense to speak of. With more minutes for Randle we win this game.

Turnovers were better. Bigs rebounding wasn't. The competition was a lot easier than the Knicks.

Not much of a fan of the ± stat but Nance's was crazy at -18.

Better movement off the ball but it was still very sloppy and mechanical.

Russell is supposed to be able to shoot?

We looked the best we have. JC and Jabari looked good on offense; Russell looked better. Randle was kind of ridiculous.

I did want the win but that wasn't a bad game overall. Glad to see Randle put together a good game and Russell cut the turnovers.

Madsen said he drew up a bad play for the last shot and that the loss was on him. Said he had poor late game management.

Mark just now on Postgame press conference: "I drew up a bad play" and then he said this loss was on him

Not a good play at all. 1 second play and it's "on him". That assumes a lot. How about the TO with 23 seconds left by Russell. That to me was the inflection point.

Play should have called for one of our shooters.
