i believe they meant we offered lopez a starting job, and he then turned it down for the clippers' backup job.

i have a few reasons why i don't buy this.

Last night Buha said he's heard Ayton is considering multiple options.

Speculates, just from looking around the league and some names who have been in rumors, of who the surplus center could be -- Robinson (Knicks), Richards (Suns), Missi (Pelicans)

Thinks the price for Missi would probably be DK + a swap or two, thinks DK + a 1st is too rich

Ayton for sure is considering other teams or else it would've been annonced already.

    Latest from Fischer

    On Ayton
    Heat looking at wings
    Other Kuminga options
    GS still frontrunner for Horford

    Elsewhere

For the minimum, I'm in. He'd be better than Shake, Morris, Len and that's if he's never can step foot on the court again.

Would be a nice March- June jolt.

mcmenamin said it, too. when he didn't immediately commit (and our remaining MLE didn't match his buyout number), i knew it wasn't a sure thing.

my guess is some teams are offering full mle (charlotte still have it?), and he's weighing the benefits of taking the extra cash vs. exposure. not sure who else has a starting center job to offer.

i also wouldn't rule out that we're working on trades (as has been reported) and thus maybe haven't fully committed to giving him the starting spot.

if i'm ayton and we're offering the starting spot, i would take the financial hit for the chance to revive my career in a very visible location that--again--currently has cap space next year to up my salary. but i'm not him. that might explain why mcmenamin said it's "up to him".

edit: duh, indiana. i guess they can offer him the deal turner turned down (4/80ish, i'm guessing). that would be enticing. i might take that over a "prove-it-to-me" season here, and you know pritchard would delight in blocking us.

DK for missi makes sense. given our need at the spot, i'm ok adding a swap to it, but no, not a first.

shake for richards with a protected swap is ok by me, too.

Okay New Orleans, fine…along with Dalton and a swap for Missi, we’ll toss in a lightly protected 2031 1st, extra swap, and Gabe’s expiring to take Herb off your hands. Just sign on the dotted line already.

can someone help me understand how duncan robinson got paid? when he declined the PO, i thought riley was up to his old tricks, but then he signed for 16 per over 3 years. he hasn't really been a plus player for three years, and his metrics are declining. what's the idea here?

and why is dalton knecht's trade value low when people are willing to pay this much for duncan robinson in the year of our lord 2025? just laker tax stuff again?

No Ayton news certainly isn’t a good sign. Hope Rob has something else up his sleeves.

the more i think about it, the more the indy situation makes me think we're out. ball's in their court, as i think he'll just take the big offer if it's on the table. guessing that may be what's happening.

if it's between mle on a meh team or for a non-starting gig, he's ours. but if indy is offering 20+ per for 2 or more years, i think he takes that.

btw, if you want to fire rob, that bungled PG tampering years back has been the gift that keeps on giving!

Sorry guys but if this pace is doom and gloom for you then please don’t go to literally any other forum. Lol

This is probably the most tame place I’ve ever been a part of and that’s definitely a good thing.

The rest of the league would absolutely revolt if we got Giannis. But hey, that would definitely be awesome for us.

seems he likes money more than basketball, that's my fear too. I remember his contract saga with the Suns, where he demanded the max, even though he was clearly not a max player, and ended up getting it and ruining the Suns chances of a ring.

Ayton hasn't cleared waivers yet, so I'm not sure why he needs to announce where he wants to play. The only thing that I have seen coming from him as a quote, is that playing on a winning team is important. That absolutely rules out Charlotte.

I have absolutely no idea, why he wouldn't be offered the starting job here, that is really a ridiculous notion. He was, and still is, the best starting 5 on the market.

Milwaukee made a shocking play, no doubt that was a deep curve ball to this situation. The Pacers just went 7 games in the Finals, so they definitely qualify as a winning situation. The thing about Indiana is this tho..

They obviously want to avoid the luxury tax, as much as they can, which is why Turner got the exact same offer, they always gave him(around 20M max) that would put them into the tax, but it's understandable considering his tenure there.

Signing Ayton to that same number, simply means that Mathurin is now available. I just don't see them keeping him if they signed Ayton. A small market team that has never paid the luxury tax, now they are willing to go deep into it, when Haliburton is basically done for this upcoming season? I don't see that happening either.

My guess is that Rob's mission hasn't changed at all, he needs to find the backup 5 by Friday. I still think Ayton is in the bag.

this is the thing, though, I want the new owners to fix a little. Kobe’s words are true, but that doesn’t mean the Lakers just hang their hat on that. They need to upgrade and update on things like other teams do, while still believing in Kobe’s logic

I bet Len and Hayes want to rock P&G, that means we're set, right?
As for Rob, his best trade/signing (that he gets all the credit for), was that crippled kid we had gor like 24hrs. Those were the times...

Dalton hasn't done anything in the NBA yet. I'm not sure that our opinion of his value, is shared around the league. I think that he's probably viewed more favorably, by a young rebuilding team, over one looking to make a playoff run right now.
