clarkson's an unusual player; i don't really see a recent analog. i think he projects as what people hoped and imagined jeremy lin and austin rivers would be: ballhandling combo guards that could get to the rim and finish. poor man's wade?

Wade may be the best comparison so far. Obviously Clarkson is not as physically gifted but they have very similiar games. They both came into the league as 22 year-old players.

I also think Wade is a good comparision.

Wade also lacked great range and scored mostly on drives and midrange shots. Clarkson doesn't have the same athleticism or playmaking ability as Wade but he might end up being a poor man's version of Wade. That would be a great accomplishment though.

Yeah Wade was a Top 5 player in the league for a good 5 year stretch.

Wade is a decent comparison. Clarkson is bigger and longer than Wade was though. Different body types.

I still like Ellis as the comparison for now over Wade. He certainly looks like Ellis against this Summer League opposition.

Bigger? He's definitely longer but Wade has to have 20+ lbs on him....of muscle. Definitely different body types.

Jordan is just a taller, longer person is what I meant. Wade has a good amount of steroid induced muscle on him.

I don't know what his ceiling is quite honestly. I've probably watched more of him than anybody else in highlights, breakdowns, footage, than I have anybody else on our roster the last year or so; he's improving so rapidly. He may change the way we approach free agency if he continues to develop the way he is, and I seriously mean that.

He's going to have a fantastic season...

Is Clarkson longer? Wade has really long arms.

Wade may "only" be 6'4", but his standing reach is 8'6". Clarkson's standing reach is 8'2".

Well, he's our 2 guard moving forward. With his rapid growth, it's hard to put a finger on his ceiling because of the hard work he puts in. Like he said in his Rookie Year piece, I think just being around Kobe really instilled a strong work ethic mentality in Jordan. Combined with his chip of being a Second Round pick, just extra motivation when he's putting in work in the gym.

He has excellent tools to become a very good player. He seems durable, adding muscle and strength will definitely solidify that as well. He's very athletic, he has a good shot, he has a plethora of offensive skills (pulling up, splitting the lane), rebounds, and being originally a PG, pretty good vision and passing skills.

I think a lot of players ceilings are defined by two things - 1. Athleticism and 2. Mentality

Again, athleticism/size/speed doesn't always make to a good player. They can effective, but that's only one half of the battle. The other is how much work and effort does a player really want to put in to become better. How much does he want to fight to win the game. When you have both, it's a prefect storm. Again, JC might not have had it coming in, but sitting next to Kobe might have clicked something in him to propel him to that next level.

Strange. Maybe it's just the way they play? I don't know. I always thought Wade was smaller than that.

For what it's worth Jordan's vertical numbers are both better than Wade's.

Jordan Clarkson by Play Type (First number is Possessions, second number is PPP)

    Transition...148, 1.19
    Isolation...101, 0.79
    Offensive Ball-handler (PNR) 271, 0.83
Spot-Up 86, 0.91 (I think this will stat will get better and more efficient this year)
    Hand-Offs 58, 0.86
    Cuts 30, 1.23
    Off screen N/A

    http://stats.nba.com/playtype/#!/off-screen/?dir=1

He's great in open court, elite finisher around the rim. Evidenced by his 60% that he shoots around the 'restricted area.' His improved strength, explosiveness, tightening his handle will lead to improve ISO numbers. Spot-ups will improve as he continues to hone his shooting. Cuts was weird. Clarkson does a decent job of moving off the ball; I think his efficient will go up in that area, too. He should do it a lot more with Russell facilitating as well.

I dont see JC as a poor mans anybody...... soon they will be saying such and such is a poor mans JC.He is a different kind of player.. Way better than most r giving him credit for. Some r coming around daring to believe we could have two such dynamic guards....
