How long can we wait before we have to use it?

I'd rather wait and see how this team develops first. Whatever FA that's available now will probably be available mid-season.

^^ I don't think Clarkson is as strong at the 1 as he is natural at the 2. But as a third stringer I'm down to roll with him. Look if Lin and Price BOTH go down for extended time, you might as well groom Clarkson because we won't be chasing the playoffs. Why bring in another vet who needs minutes at that position? Makes zero sense to me. We have no healthy/good wing players to speak of other than Kobe right now. Swaggy's out for 8 weeks. X is out indefinitely. Wes is underwhelming. Ellington is underwhelming. We need a SF badly. Way more than we need yet another PG.

I love the idea of Barnes, but that seems like pipe to me. Again, I would be fine with Roscoe Smith at this juncture.

Looks like there are little differences on how much we get depending on what we do with the exception (along with other options):

    Thanks for the info.

If we can wait until March, I'd like to see us wait it out awhile. We have a lot of new pieces on this squad. Lets see how they fit together first.

Not only that but it'll give other teams time to realize they aren't going to make the playoffs, & that should lead to a longer list of players that teams are willing to give up just to not have to pay their salaries.

Yeah I agree that its unlikely. I like Barnes too, but for some reason I feel like he might be a bust. Maybe he just really didn't fit into the 6th man role well and needs to be a starter.

Lakers will apply for disabled player exception following Nash news. If granted, exception would be worth roughly $4.85 million.

We need a wing. Lin/price/Clarkson is fair enough for PG but our SF is in need of some help.

Sometimes not making a move is the best move to make.

I don't know. It seems like he's just the odd man out over there. Iguodala comes in and plugs in perfectly because he can pass the ball so well and space the floor decently too. He was a great fit for the Splash Brothers.

Barnes just isn't really a great fit over there or at least he wasn't at first. He's got a chance to be okay this season.

I don't think Corey Brewer fits the DPE. He isn't an expiring contract, he has a player option for next season.

Unless Kobe is playing SF, then our SG needs work :)

Once Young comes back SF is actually fine. Wes is there to play 20 minutes a night and Nick gets the rest. That is a solid SF rotation and don't forget Kobe can and probably will play some SF. SG is where you are the thinnest unless Clarkson makes a jump. Ellington has been downright awful and with no handles can't play PG in a pinch. Of course Nick can play some SG as well so you could argue the real issue is Young's injury.

Once the news on Price's knee is known what their needs are will be as well. This exception still has to go through NBA channels and be approved as well. With the end of Preseason teams will be now trimming their rosters so it will be interesting who may become available. No matter what I do not see a quality player like Harrison Barnes being had for this exception plus anyone on the current roster that the Lakers would deal.

^ I was thinking the same thing regarding Price. If he's out for a significant amount of time I'd rather we sign a point guard. What I don't want is a PG lineup of Lin/Clarkson, only to have one go down and therefore forcing Kobe to play PG again like two seasons ago.

This is definitely his year to prove himself. He got the starting role back.
