sorry, yes, i should have clarified. in a vacuum, even this version of smart is better than gabe, but not by much, and he's paid twice as much.

though now that i think about it, if we were able to get capela with the tpmle, kleber/gabe/2nds for smart is a thing i could see happening. washington has little use for him, and he might find a role here.

still not the speed i was hoping to get on the perimeter, though.

re: defensive value of bigs vs. smalls, the stats i like favor bigs, but i think some of that is an issue with those stats.

the sad truth is that we need both and probably don't have the assets to do both right now. even getting one would help, though.

So says Rob's Johnnie Cochran. He was Magic's GM wasn't he? So he had absolutely nothing to do with anything huh?

whataboutism doesn't make magic a good front office guy in retrospect. and we've been over his specific stated ownership of some of the worst things that happened during his time here.

the idea that big defenders matter more than small ones. i mentioned it briefly above.

one could argue that day-to-day, a rudy gobert does more for you than a caruso. but in the playoffs, caruso can't be played off the floor, and many (most) centers can. that's just how the game is right now until someone figures out a different scheme (not sure it's possible without the corner three getting further from the basket).

It depends on the big in question brother. Without a decent big in support, the perimeter defenders don't have to get ran off the court. They simply become less effective. We already know this from the Phoenix series.

Could be a decent option. We have expiring contracts to match up. It would be better if we get a young Marcus Smart before they are Marcus Smart. Trade into the first round.

Deflection. Rob was the GM for Magic's entire run as team President. That's a fact. It's also a fact, that GM's have a huge say in personnel decisions, I mean that is their job isn't it? I just find it curious, that you like blowing up Magic frequently, while NEVER mentioning that Pelinka was his right hand man the whole time.

At the very least, we should be able to buy a 2nd. There are several teams with too many draft picks. I think we should look into trading for at least one 1st. Long-term, I think maybe we end up hiring a Presti type GM. That guy would likely require a godfather offer: 7 years / 119 million or something like that.

Lol..some folks say... that there really isn't much separation, between Presti and Pelinka. That's actually true. One last name has 6 letters, the other has 7.

Do you think they will offer a Presti that kind of money?

Probably not, but I do believe the next guy, will most definitely, be getting paid top dollar.

LOL safer to just say "top dollar" than look like a dummy estimating some crazy amount I guess. I'm saying for Presti specifically, I could see us offering something like that. I feel Morey is tier below, and then you maybe a Messi and Myers in that third tier? But there is really nobody like Presti out there, so he would command the most money.

Totally agree with buying 2nd round picks to use on development type players

Only took Presti 18 years to get a ring. Would love to see him try his approach in LA.

I'm not a fan of any of them, but that guy seems to be a modern gm type. I mean, he uses analytics and stuff. Just kind modern nba stuff, and also considering the Dodgers gm is also analytics focused. But other than that, I wouldn't know.

I agree with this. We will see what Rob does now. He’s got a big win with Luka IMO but he’s got to show what he can do to the new group. He’s had more than enough time to get acclimated to the role at this point and will have the resources he needs on all levels.

    No excuses.
