the more i thought about this, the more i wondered if this is just more of our inability to make shots. if we post the smalls, they just plant rudy in the paint and dare us to shoot threes.
The Warriors beat the Wolves mostly without Steph and we rolled out a defense where we leave everyone open on the first game....
They have to, the coaching staff just got hired this season. It's year two when s*** can start going left.
I mean dude, that Warriors team has been playing together for many years now. This Lakers team was assembled in a few months. It was an imperfect Lakers team but we were hoping Luka+Reaves+LeBron's greatness would be enough. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Part of me believes the Lakers underestimated the Wolves and thought the Warriors/OKC were their biggest problem. That Warriors team is tough to beat because those dudes all know their roles. Lakers? Not so much. It was just watch the Lakers Big 3 try and make something happen. Easier to gameplan.
JJ is like Pelinka , he can talk with great confidence and with "I know everything and I'm always right" type of attitude all day long but they have no idea about what it takes to win in the playoffs .
It's a huge upcoming season, for the both of them. We might pull a Denver type of move, if we don't win big.
rob needs to get jj a center good enough to overpower his urge to play small all the time, imo. then we can see what's what.
I have doubts long term about JJ because I think he will always prioritize as a coach what he was as a player : A 3pts shooter
Which isn't a bad mindset to have... Let's just call it what it is, the Lakers were top 3 heavy and needed a big. Luka and Bron were working way too hard to create for others without a true big out there. Gotta have some inside presence. I don't blame JJ at all. I thought he did his best with a huge glaring hole in the middle. Who was going to stop Randle and Naz Reid? No one.
yeah, if you have to play small on the back line, you can't have slow guys on the perimeter like we do. something had to give, and jj really had zero options, imo. this is why my wish list for the summer consistently contains a mobile back line defender and a very quick POA defender.
I’m still pissed about how horrible he was in the playoffs. If I’m a free agent, the lack of usage he had for his players would give me great pause. Not playing your players not only hurts their confidence, but messes up their earning potential in the future.
I feel there’s only a couple players on our bench who deserved more minutes. JJ not playing any of our bigs was a clear message to the FO that they need to bring in someone better than a washed(and never was very good) Alex Len. The Williams deal would have been a good stopgap, if he wasn’t already broken. Yeah, it would have maybe been a little too much to give up, but every GM knew we were desperate. I would have at least made Jemison available for the playoffs since he was the only big we had who could make guys think twice about attacking him in the paint. That being said, he obviously isn’t the answer.
How do we know JJ is the right coach for Luka? Based off of what? I'm still trying to figure out, what exactly is his scheme myself. I didn't see all this potential x and o genius, on display here. Mostly the scheme seemed to be Luka, Lebron and then Austin, go one on one, and the other guys run to spots to shoot 3's. If you can't knock down 3's with some consistency, you aren't going to play much. Does that strategy maximize Luka? When?,Where? Luka doesn't have any Championship rings.
neither did your boy lebron at the same age. took another couple years and teaming up with two other top-five players in his prime. it's hard to win rings, and the fact that jj didn't do it with a flawed roster in this first season during which there was a huge trade with two months left is hardly the condemnation you're attempting to levy here. i didn't like the offense down the stretch or in the playoffs. but i liked a lot of things jj did in his first year. it was like waking up from a nightmare after ham. good lord, he was bad. it was like having byron back.
Luka is not Lebron James man. James lead a bunch of scrubs, to his 1st Finals at age 22, 4 years out of HS. Luka had already been a pro for 10 years. They both lost true. James went to 9 Finals in 10 years, with 3 different teams. They are not to be compared like that IMO. Luka is Luka, he might one day have a similar resume, he most likely will not. We shall see, but I don't really get your obsession with hyping Luka up all the time. He's a great talent but he hasn't accomplished any thing yet, besides putting up great personal stats, and making one Finals. SGA is 26, Halliburton is 25, one of them is going to be a Champion this season. You can't just automatically assume, that Luka is going to be consistently in the hunt, just because he's still young. Ham went to the Western Conference Finals, in his 1st season, with frigin Tinkerbell, as his starting PG. It was said that we felt that we needed more experience. Then we hired a f***ing novice with no experience! Some more Rob Pelinka nonsense. What is JJ's claim to fame? We finished 3rd in the West, a whole 2 games ahead of the 8th place team. Whoopee f***ing doo!
love how you try to use luka's years of playing pro in europe as some sort of mark against him all the time. if so, luka DOES have a ring! and an mvp! and a finals mvp! pick a lane. if luka teamed up with SGA and JJJ, he'd also go the finals and win a lot of rings. what is an accomplishment, then? wouldn't trade luka for either. luka whipped SGA's a** last year, and if he had SGA's supporting cast, he'd have a ring. keep defending ham and attacking luka. both great arguments with tons of support.
I didn't say anything that wasn't true. Luka is 26 Lebron took an inferior team the the Finals at 22. It is what it is. Luka teamed up with Kyrie, He's teamed up with LeBron right now. What's your point? The accomplishment is winning the chip. Dominance is getting to multiple Finals. Luka has done neither. He may one day, he may not. We shall see. Luka had his shot last season, SGA has his this season. We don't know the results of his shot yet, however neither are garunteed to win a chip or even get back to the Finals. Luka hasn't passed AD as a Laker, Win me a chip! Im definitely not crowning him prematurely. Im also not declaring him a failure after 1 season either. Meh...JJ hasn't accomplished jack s*** yet, and like I was saying with Luka, it's not a given, that he will ever win s*** either. If he can't get out of the 1st or 2nd rd next season. He needs to go.
