Great job by the Knicks. Unexpected, but... I'll take it. Now, get this -- Boston took 60 threes. 60. And hit about 25% of those. That's not gonna do it.

boston's winning that series, but ny taking game 1 could make it longer than i expected. good for them; the opportunity presented itself and they took it. a lot of non-brunson plays down the stretch sealed it, and they should all remember it's a team game. felt like towns got lost in the shuffle a bit after doing some heroic stuff to help close out detroit.

anunoby and bridges both made some really big plays. holiday was also everywhere for boston. i'll repeat that boston's superstar role players just continually bail out their mediocre stars, which will be made apparent if they start having to downgrade at those spots...

Strange the Knicks never seem to run a Brunson/Towns PnR - do they just not trust Towns decision making?

C Bags sum up all that is wrong with today's NBA

45 missed 3s in a single game is insanity

For Jokic it's all about offense 40 points ,22 boards.
Yes he's showing insane stats, but he doesn't defend at all ,except for getting some rebounds here and there

That Mark Williams trade is killing me. Lakers would have killed this OKC team just needed one playable big against these massive teams like Sota

Knew it. OKC is not battle tested, experience matters. GSW won't be a cakewalk for Minny either...

Yeah wacko job in coaching at the end. Used all the TO's and kept fouling Denver when up by 3...Let Jokic get in thanks to all their fouls.

    Then there's Choke Holmgren.

I stand by my statement, we were one rescinded trade away from the Finals. Williams better be a real cripple going forward (not that i wish that).

i wonder if it's simply that they don't want a big being able to trap brunson because he can't throw over the top? no idea. the set screens for him with hart, who's really not a shooter nor much of a playmaker. maybe towns is one of those bigs who thinks he's above setting too many screens?

yeah, i commented on that in the luka thread. jokic gets a huge pass on that end in part because his team just breaks its back to protect him on defense. okc got wide open three after wide open three (for good shooters!), and as the game wore one, they just got tight and missed or went for other shots.

if he's going to kill you on the other end (and he is), then you have to keep going to that well, and okc didn't.

edit: i have a lot more to say about that game, but i'm not sure people are appreciating yet what an incredible chokejob that was by basically everyone on okc's side, from the coach to like, all the players. just mental mistake after mental mistake. it was hard to watch.

Bill Plaschke said the Lakers had cold feet, and concerns about other things, and the physical was the deal breaker. The stuff about "complicated veteran system " might be why Dalton never got any burn. IDK

I still believe that had the trade been agreed upon a little earlier, and the physical conducted before the deadline and not after, we could have come to agreement with Charlotte on a modified package. The fact that it had to be all or nothing given the timing is what killed it. I also think we still lose to the Wolves with Williams tbh. Teams that come together at the deadline tend not to make deep playoff runs. This wasn't turning Russ into a few role players like we did in 2023, we altered the fundamental makeup of the team by swapping AD for Luka. I'm not sure you can make a more drastic change than swapping a center for a heliocentric playmaker/scorer like Luka.

Also, Williams is not a very good defender right now. He has size but not great instincts defending the rim. He's young and that could absolutely improve, but he's not ready to anchor a playoff defense right now. He's also played exactly zero meaningful NBA games in his career to date since he's been on Charlotte. I'd still absolutely be interested in revisiting the trade if the bridge with Charlotte isn't burned, but let's not pretend that Williams is some finished product, fringe All-Star caliber center that could have stepped in and immediately anchored a playoff defense.
