Haven’t listened to this, just reading the excerpt, sounds a lot like Magic and Rob when they first blew into the FO and inspired some of the hilarious Magic “FAT”/“Cankles” ART from @sirronstuff with their talk about body/fat %, etc, yada yada. If I wasn’t too lazy to walk over to the computer would post one. Never did figure out how to grab one from his library with a phone all these years in. :D :p

Allll the way across the room but as always I'm a giver:

JJ needs to decompress a bit, he's just a bit frustrated IMO.There were some subtle little shots, being thrown about the roster, before the Luka trade.

Rob has already put out the.." I pick the players, but the HC is in control of the PT" comment. Now essentially " If we were in better shape...they wouldn't be as fatigued".(Luka).

He'd be wise to put a filter, on some of the public comments. He was Lebron's guy, Luka is here now. Things have changed, read the room bro.

We are The Los Angeles Lakers...take nothing for granted. Frank won a chip, got fired 2 seasons later. Ham went to the Conference Finals as a rookie coach, got fired the next season. Just win baby!!

If Luka decides that he's really not feeling you, Lebron won't be able to save you.

I think we need to look at upgrading the staff. Ultimately, do I think that makes a difference when JJ is going to make the decisions? IDK, but maybe he'll listen to an assistant like Mike Malone, Budz, etc.

Don't mind keeping Nate, Scott, or Greg on the staff, but maybe a new voice wouldn't hurt.

He was outcoached, but Finch is a damn good coach with a good roster.

    Still bullish on JJ.

Yeah. Needs to work on his temperament. Hes good with the media overall but his answers the last few days and storming off like that just weren’t a good look in my opinion.

Yeah. I think overall he showed a lot of promise and I was definitely skeptical of the hire.

Another voice in the room wouldn’t be bad but I’m wondering who’s an up comer who could really help out with the offense.

I have to look: I like the thought of Malone, but he may have Reddick looking over his shoulders.

I think we need to look at everything. It's one thing when you're drawing up plays on a podcast; it's different when you're in the middle of a chess game against the other team and have to make those adjustments.

still don't get sniping about luka in the press. i mean, if there's a way to sour that relationship before it develops, that has to be it, right?

it's fine to speak to him in person about this stuff, but throwing passive aggressive shade...i don't think this is some sort of phil jackson master mind game you're playing. nor do i think that kind of stuff would work with luka.

the problem in dallas was that management didn't understand him/how to communicate with him. this is a bad start here, too.

Call it like it is. He’s not the same athlete at 26 that he was earlier in his career. He’s too young to be relying on old man game already. He was very exposed.

I think JJ's "championship shape" comment would have been ok if it was directed to the whole team. The problem was he went on to say some guys were in phenomenal shape (LeBron) and some guys were not (Luka). This stuff needs to be addressed with him but do it one on one and keep it private. Sit Luka down the day AFTER he signs his extension and have a heart to heart with him and emphasize we are only going to go as far as Luka can carry us.

Then say Luka's name then, don't beat around the bush when you are blaming them (him)for the series. That is what it means by calling it like it is.

Chris Finch every game he had adjustments, the last game they decided to dump it to Rudy.

JJ last ditch effort was to play an injured player that have not played since January.

He basically alienated the whole team except Lebron. I guess that is smart because he got the job because of Lebron.

He got severely outcoached by Finch- no amount of blaming the players will remove this fact.

JJ is the polar opposite of the Phil Jackson Zen approach to coaching. He is more similar to the Pat Riley approach. Both can work. The only issue with Riles was he eventually wore out his team and wore out his welcome. But that was after 4 rings. I could live with that.

Not too bad for a rookie and a Laker honestly (as well as an ***hole).

    Not bad for a podcaster.

Expecting some chomping at the bit, foaming at the mouth level stuff entering next season. The way in which we lost is a great learning opportunity for him but also one that an obsessive like him will lose sleep over throughout the summer

yeah, we got outplayed, but he also got outcoached a bit. he knows it.

i'm just hoping he finds a way to build an offense that's not just "watch luka cook". that offense works, but i worry about it as a formula for a title, same way i didn't think hardenball was going to deliver. and the latter came close. and luka is way better than even prime harden. but i just don't think that's how you win. curry and jokic both function as part of organized offenses, you can't tell me luka can't/won't do that, too. it will take a creative coach to get the most out of it and a good leader to get his star on board with a slight philosophical shift.

    get to work.

I think both of these are related - I mean you could argue that Finch didn't really out coach JJ but JJ basically imploded. I mean some of this s*** looks worse now

-played 5 guys for 24 minutes in a row! Not only is that insane to begin with but that included a 40 year old coming off a groin injury and now we know Reaves was playing on a blown tire in Game 4 as well.
-Unlike Phil Jackson or even Adelman in Denver playing the corpse of Deandre Jordan, just taking out players completely from the rotation and not prepping all and ANY of his guys to be ready
-the lack of playcalling was bad but then he compounded it by not switch hunting the smalls and not bigs of the TWovles.

Finch basically had nothing to do with any of these crucial errors and if that is because JJ is getting fixated that needs to change ASAP. Spazzing out is one thing, being so brittle that you break on first contact is another.
