clips need to just blow it all up

this was their best chance at a deep playoff run with harden and kawhi finally healthy and they didn't even make it out of round one. they're probably not getting that same luck with injuries again and those two aren't getting younger

but with ballmer being ballmer and them just moving into the new stadium, they're just going to keep throwing money at whoever they can and riding out that core until they retire. only a single WCF appearance to show for in the kawhi era so far

    I don't know man...it's weird...somethin' come over me...I'm suddenly a HUGE Knicks fan.

Don't know where this is comin' from...How strange...(looks at EC 2nd round matchups): Oh. Oh, that's why. No wonder. Makes sense.

KAT, Brunson, Hart, Bridges, OG: ya gotta bring it, man.

Clippers fans must be distraught: another collapse in a huge game. And they were healthy. Another season done. I get it: it sucks. Big Game Harden came up with 7 points in 35 mins in Game 7. Must be rough to be a Clips fan yet again. And I also get it if you're a Clips fan and you're ready to just heave all over the place. Have you tried the very very many toilets at Ballmer's Place? Not a bad place to just get it all out. Lotsa room.

    Or so we have read.

don't look at how the knicks have fared against boston this year...that one could be very short.

as for lac. you know i never feel bad for? this guy:

    misplaced confidence at every step!

once again, if you had some humility--and real confidence, btw--you'd have taken our offer years ago. you'd have a ring (that you're not getting now), and you'd have made the same amount of money you've made, except you'd be the lakers coach and not the clippers coach. what's funny is that he knows this and it clearly burns his a** every day. enjoy regular season overachievement and plaudits from the media, though!

Denver radio announcer: "...and now we hear chants 'Beat L.A.!' But let me tell you... that has to be the Lakers, it's just not the same without the Lakers."

    Also, I just can't...:

I posted previously as well that Sabonis would be a player I would give up Austin\Rui/+ picks to acquire.

He doesn’t suck, but he’s not great either. He’s been incredibly dumb with the obvious margin decisions, but very good elsewhere(rebounding from the Westbrick debacle, Luka, DFS). Without his relationship with Nico, we would have continued to be a pretender, appeasing the cash cow, while getting bounced round one year after year.
I don’t expect us to get a top five Center with our lack of real tradeable assets(excluding Austin), but I don’t have to get excited about adding a bottom of the heap big either.
I’m fine with holding on to Austin, but I could get over the loss if we were able to swap him out with someone like Sabonis.

you don't have to get excited. you also don't have to complain that management sucks because it can't do impossible things.

i mean, management literally just did an impossible thing...and nobody is even satisfied with that!

i like svtzr's list, but "being on the move" doesn't mean "available for what we have to offer".

i'll bold who i think might be:

    • Domantis Sabonis -don't have the assets
    • Kristaps Porzingis-boston won't let that happen, nor do i love the fit/availability
    • Myles Turner-just not happening...again...for the third time
    • Jarrett Allen-why would cleveland move him? why would they want even reaves?
    • Nikola Vucevic-maybe but do we want him?
    • Naz Reid-out of our market; minny wouldn't facilitate
    • Deandre Ayton-same
    • Nic Claxton-iffy here, but i've laid out why i think this is highly unlikely
    • Brook Lopez-same
    • Daniel Gafford-just can't see dallas working with us right now
    • Jusuf Nurkic-definitely but he was dumped by a team that desperately needed him to just be ok.
    • Jonas Valanciunas-yes, but bad fit. if we could find a way to get him and keon ellis in a deal, i'm listening. still want a lob threat center, though.
    • Bobby Portis--only if lebron takes paycut
    • Mark Williams
    • Clint Capela--think this is the most realistic
    • Isiah Stewart (ship sailed; i wanted him last summer and think we could have made it happen then)
    • Wendel Carter Jr (same)
    • Steven Adams-love him, proposed trades for him all year. he's been huge for houston, why would they let him go?
    • John Collins-available, not a center. actually interesting bc i think jj would love to just play him at center, though.
    • Walker Kessler-i could see us offering the mark williams package plus the swap here, but is danny peeved about being roped into the luka deal?
    • Jakob Poeltl--toronto starts him and plays him 30mpg. now, i could see maybe toronto making a move for sabonis and us peeling off poeltl somehow?
    • Robert Williams III-i think he's gettable. i'd trade gabe/kleber for williams/thybulle.
    • Kelly Olynyk-less interested than i was before the luka trade.
    • Luke Kornet-iffy here. i've mentioned him a bunch, too, but i think he's in that MLE/S&T range that we can't currently make happen.
    • Dayron Sharpe-RFA makes it tricky

anyway, my point is that we have to temper the center expectations simply due to our available assets. i would agree that if we show up with a vet min smorgasbord again next year, people have a right to be frustrated. but if it's capela instead of claxton, i think people need to be understanding.

I’ve been completely fair with my assessment of Rob and have always given Rob his flowers when deserved. It’s never black and white.

I think people also need to get their head around just how punitive the new repeater tax is, as an example Boston needs to break their team up or they’re facing a 280 MILLION dollar tax bill!! That’s over 510 million to field a roster for one year. It’s just not going to happen, they’ll get rid of Holiday and Porzingis. Heck I’ve seen some of their fans suggest trading Brown for cheaper assets and cost controlled players on rookie deals.

That’s the environment we live in today. That’s why Cleveland might move Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley’s salary next year starts at 45 million and not 38 - as a result their over 220m for their roster and now have to make touch decisions.

Same thing with the Wolves and their Naz Reid, Randle, NAW situation.

Same with Phoenix, same with Denver. Same with Orlando one year later. New York is maxed out and will have to resign Bridges and Mitchell Robinson in 26/27. So they’ll have to let someone go as well.

Lots of teams are going to have to adjust because next season or the one after they’ll be well over their ability to pay to field the teams they have. OKC’s reckoning is coming when they have to resign Chet and Williams to max contracts too.

Steven Adams priced himself out of the TP MLE but we can get someone like Drummond back and offer him TP MLE for 2 years.

still one of the best rebounders in the league and his advanced stats are still pretty good.

I just realized that OKC gets almost 26/20 and over 3 blocks per game from their two big guys. I kid you not.

all true; just not sure how we--with no cap space--help them with their immediate burdens or capitalize on the runoff other than swooping a la C Bags/jrue holiday (this is the scenario i'm hoping for).

i'm also interested in whether people actually make these moves, as so far, teams have just been blowing through the second apron in several cases.

anyway, for say, boston to benefit from dumping holiday or zinger, someone has to absorb big chunks of that money. we can't be that team

lol, as long as we don't promise him a starting position again!

really, though, i don't think he's jj's style, nor luka's. those are the two people whose opinions matter most on centers, imo.

Watching the Pacers and Cavs right now. Both of these teams are supremely athletic. We’ve gotta get bigger, faster and stronger in the offseason. Rob has his work cut out for him.
